Thanks for this introductory/unboxing. I like this Tecsun H-501 Radio. Last Radio I bought was the PL-990 which Love that radio it is similar to my PL-880, and less similar to my PL-660. Love Tecsun Radios.

Tom loves his radio's and so do a lot of other folks. We live in Nova Scotia which is a great place for DX from around the world. The proximity to ocean water seems to help and it is easy to get away from electrical interference with a radio such as this H-501x. I love the protective case. For folks in Europe & The States I suggest trying to pick up 590 VOCM from St. John's NFLD. This is a very old Canadian station that dates to a time before NFLD became a part of Canada. After COVID may I suggest a DX trip to both Nova Scotia & Prince Edward Island. In PEI the combination of rich agricultural land and ocean water all around makes for a wonderful listening post. I can tell you are having fun and I am enjoying the journey with you. My Tecsun PL-990 has basically the same case but smaller and without the handle. It is the nicest case I have gotten with a radio. I really like how the manual fits in the sleeve inside the case.

I can feel your excitement and enthusiasm as you unboxed this nice Tecsun, Tom. 😄 Sorry for joining the party late, as I started watching KZbin reviews of shortwave receivers only a few months ago, found your interesting channel among many others and subbed to it immediately. You've posted so many videos that it's going to take a while for me to watch them all! 👍🏼 On another note, there's one YT reviewer who was overly critical of the H-501x and was nitpicking on this radio's folding metal frame, citing it as flimsy and fragile. He probably had his valid points seeing the high price tag of the H-501x, which is close to the flagship but long in the tooth S-2000 desktop model. I noted that you've long sold your PL-880 and decided not to get the PL-990x. BTW, just in case you missed it, an old post on the SWling blog mentioned that the H-501 and the PL-990 will be Tecsun's final premium receivers that were designed by Mr Wei Liang, the company Chairman and his engineering team. From my perspective, Tecsun probably didn't want to to end up with too many high end receivers that they can't sell and concentrate on making the more profitable and affordable models like the PL-680 and the PL-330. Great review. I have both the pl880 and 660. I refer to the pl660 as my mighty mouse . On a end fed di pole for swl it stands toe to toe with both of my Hf ccr's. This is my next radio. Keep rolling the vids👊

Thank You Tecsun for developing a radio with the features that are most popular today. I am impressed with the stereo speaker setup. It’s about time manufacturers start including good sound with their radios. Who wants to spend decent money on a radio and listen through a mono speaker. The MP3 sd card slot is also a welcome addition. The Chinese and Russian competition are adding bandscopes to their devices. I hope Tecsun is looking into a big screen bandscope in their future models. Blue tooth and Air band would be nice.

It does have Bluetooth (hidden feature) but I have not tried it yet.

It seems to be my "dream" portable. LSB,USB External AM (MW) and (SW) jacks, Stereo, Ability to use an "Aux" cord, ETC. If the SD (TF) card functionality includes "shuffle" play mode, (Too many radios with Mp3 function lack this BASIC abillity..) I'm IN. It'll be my next "box"! Loving it so far!

That is a hard decision. The 750 is more of a table radio where the 501 is a portable. The 501 has a lot if new features. Based on my wants I would go with the 501. Make a list of your wants.
