As a fearful adult rider, I know I am doing myself an injustice in not more proactively dealing with this more efficiently and reframing it to be I sometimes experience fear when riding rather than I am a fearful rider. What a fantastic episode to hear today, thank you.

Thank you Tristan for sharing.....it is indeed the challenges that guide us into growth. As you say self discipline, determination is the fuel. The reward is remarkable in our capabilities to enhance our horse (s) and our selves. As Iain McGilchrist says "the challenges move us forward" to great experiences. "Without friction there is no motion". With motion is the emotion, that which enables us to truly feel the experience as it takes place. Dr Jordan Peterson, renown Canadian Psychologist, also speaks of facing challenges and growing because of them. Tristan, you are remarkable, enjoyable, delightful and a great mentor....my life and the life of my dearest four hoofed friend is joyful because of your teachings. Much gratitude from us both to you .

This is a beautiful and inspirational video. Thank you so much. Our experiences definitely shape the way we approach life. Horses are the best teachers to learn about yourself, I agree wholeheartedly. Thank you for not giving up! Your teachings give us so much!

that's a great life lesson." Be your own hero" I've overcome my fear just because I learned to live in the moment. It is a Dr horseman Tucker prescription and I live by it with everything :) thank you :)

Exactly what I needed to hear today. I have been considering stepping away from the horses because of fear and the resulting frustration. Thank you for the inspiration - I really don’t want to lose that part of my life so this is great advice to help me refocus and find my way. Love your work!

Hi Tristan, I agree about fear often being a super power for the reasons you talk about. I wonder also if you are highly sensitivity, as in your brain doesn't block out as much of the incoming stimuli as less sensitive individuals. This can result in a degree of sensory overload in new situations and a feeling of being out of control, where others are apparently comfortable. It would also allow you to notice things such small bits of tension in a horse, so you could learn to address them early and avoid the problems that a less sensitive person might run into. I think sensitive people often enjoy dressage because they like noticing and responding to tiny changes that might fly under the radar for others. I can't imagine finding riding dressage boring but I think some people require a higher level of stimulation in order to be in their stimulation comfort zone, and for them 'riding around in circles' doesn't do it. I also think that being an empathetic person adds an extra band of incoming stimulus which for an already sensitive person can overwhelm while in the learning process but in the long run make for a much better horseman. Thanks for your thoughtful content and keep putting out the great videos
