It's fascinating how Underworlds mo cap translates worse to the screen than Anniversary classically animated ones. It's like there are several frames of movements missing. The older games are so much smoother and looks so much better. I also thought of that when comparing TR1 to the reboots. In the originals she moves with weight when for example pulling herself onto ledges, while in the re boots she seems weightless and janky.

CD probably rushed the mocap thing on TRU (yearly TR deadlines during that era sucks haha) that’s why it looks janky. I also love how the classic TRs you can see Lara struggles a bit to push boxes or pulling up ladders or ledges.. really adds to the game’s movement realism for such a classic era 💜

Back in the day in one of the TRU making of videos they said that the mo cap animations were too slow for the gameplay they intended, so they increased the animation speed. This probably could've worked if they took more time to polish the animations afterwards.

The worst offender BY FAR being the swan dive, Lara's most iconic animation looks so fluid on the older games and on TRU looks robotic and she zips from one pose to the next and the angle makes it even worse.. and in the reboots I dont even think we have it anymore except for some specific scripted places

It's sad cause I much prefer almost all the Underworld animations (except diving), if only they weren't so choppy, missing a few frames and just generally feels like defy the rules of physics. It's not like the whole animation is bad and needs to be scrapped, it just needed to be polished. Underworld's running animation 1:22 for example is phenomenal, this is the most Lara-like running animation in all of TR games, it's so smooth and realistic. This will only get worse in the reboot with Lara basically half-crouching through the whole game, I feel like she got a scoliosis from how she was positioned during those whole 3 games, there's not a moment in the game where she stands confidently with her back straight like a normal person.

about the reboot animations, she only stands straight during cutscenes or when she’s at a base camp menu. the rest of the game she bends her knees just like Michael Jackson which is odd 🧍

Even though there is some problem in underworld with the animations, i like it more because they feels more realistic to me then Legend and anniversary.

facts! 💯 they probably just did a new set of animations for TRU to make it feel “next gen” and ended up being buggy and glitchy haha 😭

@@higantegamerYT Actually, TRU used motion capture to produce the move set. It was the first game in the series to do that. The motion capture model was a gymnast called Heidi Moneymaker. Because of this, the animations felt totally different. Lara definitely felt a bit more weighty and slow in Underworld in comparison to Legend/ Anniversary. She felt kind of grounded. When I went back to playing legend, it was weird. It was almost as if Lara was weightless, but a lot faster and responsive somehow.

@@moodydog9960 yup! forgot to mention this in the video thanks for this 😄💜 but yeah it’s true she feels lighter in Legend and Anniversary.. in Underworld she feels almost close to “classic” TR because of her movement’s weight despite being buggy 🏃

I was constantly checking discord server for when raq would upload the mod, when it was finally uploaded not only it was working in the game flawlessly but he improved so much compared to the previous mod and i had a blast playing TRU lara in anniversary 😂

omg I was sooo late to the party! I haven’t tried this mod until the creation of this video hahaha 😅 it feels great to see TRU Lara with the Anniversary animation set compared to the “motion capture” TRU ones 💀

I loved the animations in legend and anniversary. It’s a shame the animations got on the jankier side with underworld and reboot.

Underworld having the jankiest and buggiest animation set of them all is a crime tbh 😆 but I still love TRU hehe it’s my fave from the LAU era of Tomb Raider 💜

Clickbait. This is a TRA mod that implements the TRU outfits, in no way the TRU animations are fixed as they are totally different. What I would expect with this title is seeing the TRU mocap animations actually fixed, ie their transitions fixed, the fast movements slowed down, the missing frames added, the weird arm movements fixed, etc.

Hymm i finished it years ago, but i didnt see the chunky animations... it wasnt buggy at all, also worked amazingly, original polish release... so yup i dont see any reason why to complain.

I played the PC version and it had bugs during my experience. If you look around old threads on Tomb Raider Forums there were complaints about her animations as well as the game’s overall quality of life 💬

@@higantegamerYT On my old laptop it was around 90 fps... so i dont also see a reason why to complain on optimization... new tombs are far way worse, no matter at specifications for example shadow of the tomb raider always works like a crap... 60 fps and bang 15-10... good and bam fps drop once again....
