In this video, I retrofit my existing HVAC systems ceiling vent covers with TruAire's SmoothGlide Ceiling Diffusers. Depending on your existing installation, you may need a jigsaw and/or hacksaw.

I can’t express how EASY it was to install. This unit has been a life savior during the summer and some days during other seasons where it can still be a bit warm at night. In this small place is my friend, a husky, poodle mix and myself. We need AC - lolI don’t use the dehumidifier option - I’m not sure if it will leak in my house, since I did not install the small draining hose that came with it. May look into it late but I don’t worry about much humidity in the apartment. I don’t understand why the negative reviews since all things mentioned, I personally did not find issues with. Definitely worth it!

Great question Margot. My basement ceilings are short enough that I can just reach up and do it without a chair. I've never seen a longer version.

The square vents work better then these roind ones. The roind onez push the air out not fown. The square vents pish the air down. I sm yet to see a bideo on this subject.

It doesn’t “open fine”. The wings will not open fully because they hit the duct work. It will only open partially.

You never finished the installation the one part i need help with is the key install. It is supossed to be permanent ....

The key that came with this vent will not stay permanently installed. You just insert and turn like a screwdriver to open or close. If you let go of the key, it will fall out. I have however seen a permanent turn knob on some models.

did I miss something or is this whole thing just friction holding to the ceiling? there's no way those 3 machine screws are doing anything to hold this assembly to the structure or ceiling board...

It is a semi-circle hole, if you are unable to find one a screwdriver would also work, just be careful as the locking mechanism is made of plastic in most modles, and the screwdriver could strip it.

Do we need to manually open the damper and let thr hot air come and then manually close it for air not to go out again from the vent? Or is it automatically..becuase u closed the damper

It's a long white plastic piece with a D shaped end. I just googled and searched eBay to no avail. You might be able to find the right width of flathead screwdriver to wedge in there to turn.

I have an 8" diffuser damper that I installed but the actual diffuser cover (just like the one installed in this video), it doesn't fit anymore. Should I have a 10" cover?

Can I eliminate the damper completely? I'm remolding my house and don't like the way they look. Plus, I leave them wide open year round anyway.

With you today if you just leave them open anyway, I don't see a need to install closing capabilities. However, there may be building code ramifications that I'm not aware of.

Great video! Does the key not stay in the unit? My old ones you would push the key up or pull it down but the key was always attatched.

@@kingarchnyc The key is D shaped on the end. You put it into the D shaped hole in the vent and turn it counter-clockwise to open, and clockwise to close the vents.

Who ever cut the so called hole in the ceiling must been high what a horrible circle they cut its got half line going down one side & uneven all round...it's pathetic to aay the least....
