One thing to consider as an addon to help some with seasonal weather adaptation is some one sided silver bubble insulation / radiant barrier from a big box store. You can put reflective side up between your roof and fly to reflect heat, or flip it to reflect heat back down to the tent for cooler temps. Here in NW Texas [ Abilene } we have weather extremes, so weather adaptation is a must

Cool modification sir. Looks like another good option for getting out in the woods!

I have the Ridgeline brand bed tent topper which is floor less, just goes over the bed rails and works great for my Nissan Titan. Makes camping little nicer.

If you had a longer bed you could just throw a 23zero or OVS swag on top of the diamond back cover and it would be good to go.

Pretty cool mod should work well for you. Have you ever considered a hitch mount hammock stand? Use a stand of your choice or build your own paired with a Haven Hammock Tent and you have a winner.

I’ve always seen these and wondered how good they are. This is a really cool idea

I thought of doing this on my diamondback, but not stealth enough for me. Looking to stealth camp in my bed for some ski trips. Ski resorts are not a fan of overnight camping. They want the big money for rooms. Luckily I have an 8' bed with 25" of space from floor to cover. Think I can sneak about a 4" thick mattress in there and pull the cover down. Thinking of doing a single mattress with a slide out like you have, but I know my kida are gonna wanna stay with me to get 1st tracks. I picked up the McLean Metalworks hitch mount hammock stand. Sets up in seconds for a quick one night stay for hunting/fishing trips that stealth is not necessary.

1st-love the channel. I don’t like this idea based on experience. I dislike the amount of time it takes to set these up, especially when I arrive late in the evening and rushing before dark. I’m in my late 50’s and travel with 2 pups. Once it’s up, alls good (except getting the dogs in). Also, in/out is tough too. I tried installing the little ladder on the tailgate but that doesn’t work well. Overall, not an ideal setup. I’m working on a poor man/woman’s Overland setup with my 5x10 utility trailer! Just hookup and go.

Hi there, I just watched your video on the Jayco Jay feather micro. I was hoping to see if you did a video on your modifications to the galley. But I couldn't find one. If you have one or are going to do one please let me know. I'm looking at possibly getting one if I can find one here in the Phoenix area. Thanks!

Great truck man, and I love the video. Question; I have a 2018 Tacoma Sport, lifted with KO2s and Gear rims. I love, LOVE the thing, but am not really interested in an overland set up like you have, as you mentioned a lot of people aren't. Something like this looks PERFECT for me as I only (want to, now that I'm retired) camp a couple times a year. Anyhow, my question is this - I LOVE those diamondback bed covers and looked into them, but frankly, not being the handiest guy in the world, how difficult is it to install one of them?

Extremely easy. I have one on my truck. Been on there 4 years and still looks brand new. It's 4 truck cap clamps and your basically down. There is a little adjustment for the rods to keep the cover tight and waterproof. I had my kids sit on the corner while I laid in the bed and adjusted the rods. Took maybe 45 minutes to set up the 1st time making sure it was all aligned properly.

Very easy to install, I actually have a full installation video on my channel 👍🏼

My only issue with these tents are the straps that hold it down. Your truck is nice and clean and I am willing to bet on a windy day those straps are going to start digging into the paint on the truck. Other than that I think its a great way to get yourself elevated off the ground.
