I went ahead and bought the UnderCover Elite Hinged Tonneau Cover for my 2021 Ram 1500 Quad Cab Big Horn. I chose that one over everything else just because I wanted a one piece construction and because I seen a couple of videos on KZbin that showed people trying to open the tail gate with the tonneau cover in the closed position and the cover itself prevented it from opening, pretty much guaranteeing that it would be impossible to break into the bed of the truck. Other than the fact that you have to open the cover to be able to drop the tailgate down, I am beyond satisfied with my purchase.

Got a soft tri-fold cover from the manufacturer for a 2021 Laramie ( about 495 ) but really like that jack-rabbit cover.

Read some reports as well as some youtube vids the FRP cover can absorb water over the years causing the cover to gain weight. I was all for FRP, but believe aluminum might be the best; even if where I live, rain is like never seen or felt.

So I would like to give an update. About 2 years ago I went with the Undercover Elite tonneau cover and had it installed on my truck. Just after 2 years of ownership, I regret my decision. With the high winds that came through Ohio the night of December 22nd through December 24th, it was so strong that it literally lifted up the back of my tonneau cover (even with it in the lock position) just enough and blew snow in through between the tailgate and the cover and literally filled my entire truck bed with snow. As of now I’m looking at getting a Cap/Topper from A.R.E. and am gonna sell my Undercover Elite tonneau cover.

Would probably be the hard-fold one for me, low maintenance cost, can be fully-opened for big tall stuff, withstand heavy load on cover, hard to poke with knife😊

I like the retractable best. Do they make it for 2016 Ram 1500. Right now my budget is for an inexpensive soft roll up, but I'd prefer a retractable if I can swing it...

I have a hard tri-fold and hate it. In between each of the sections is rubber (or something). The problem is that this allows each section to move. It get out of alignment all the time, and after a few uses it no longer seals by the tailgate correctly. It’s expensive and heavy to use. It also rests against your back glass. Who thought that was a good idea!?!? - Hate it. That being said, I am really interested in that hard roll that you showed. Really looks nice.

Im going with the jack rabbit. I used to have a hinged cover, but it puts a HARD limit on what you can haul. Anything tall like a dresser with a few bins, or a motorcycle/dirtbike in the bed (I do it) and you have to take the whole thing off, which is a PITA with all the hardware and how heavy it is. Also makes loading things harder, you cant go over the side or even stand in the bed to tighten straps. You should have mentioned it in the vid, you didnt really address the negatives on that. Like them all they have their place depending on the persons needs.

I had a Extang bed cover on my 2018 company F150 crew cab 4x4 and averaged 19.1 mpg on my mostly highway daily trip. When the company bought my F150 XLT premium they bought an almost identical F150 Lariat crew cab 4x4. I drove the Lariat which had an open bed for a couple of months and averaged 17.0 mpg. That’s a 12% increase in mpg. On a practical basis the tri-fold bed cover cuts down on the cargo space, and is time consuming. I just bought a new F-250 for my personal use. I thought about all my various options for the bed. I decided to go with a UWS secure lock cross over tool box.

Hard trifolds have quite a few downsides as well that aren’t discussed in this video. For starters, the cable/latch hardware ends up resting on the exterior when you open them, which ends up wearing grooves into the aluminum and scratches whatever paint or coating is on them straight off. Foam bumpers can help, but they only do so much. The other problem is that the third section is basically useless. It either blocks the front of the bed when it’s down or blocks your rear window completely if it’s up. I would much rather have a retractable cover and give up the tiny space for the canister.

That’s what I went with, but I regret my decision. I cheated out and bought a Tyger Auto soft tri-fold. Has been good for a few years now, can see it falling apart in a few more, but I’m not hauling much more than a few things here and there. For $150 can’t ask for more

How is that holding up for you? I bought the same thing, (under a different brand name), for my Dakota and I wouldn't want anything else. If I need to I can take it completely off in about 2-3 minutes and it is light weight. My concern is longevity. Is yours still holding up?

You didn't mention that any big cargo can't go all the way back in the bed with that last cover. I have had an idea for a cover that allows full use of the bed when it's open. But I can't tell you because I don't want my idea to get stolen. lol I have to get around to building a prototype and then pitch it to various manufacturers. Once the idea is patented, copyrighted and trademarked. Oh, and I also need to buy a truck too. lol

Very outdated info. Most of these covers don't show working well with the tail gate, but do now. If I relied on this video, I'd pass on most of them when in fact they've been improved and now are good choices.
