Texas Singh I brought a rough country tri fold hard cover and had to send it back because it vibrates/ shakes to much when I’m driving and it was properly installed?...does the flex tonneau shakes or makes noises when installed?
@DylanC8285 жыл бұрын
Will definitely be getting the trifold over the others. IMO it’s the only one without any real cons, because in my experience if you need the whole bed above the top of the box then your vision through the back window is already gone, and at that point the cover is now protecting your window from something sliding forward and smashing it. Example being loading a quad, I’ve seen many a rear window bite the dust when one crashed into the glass, but the cover would prevent that from happening.
@Mixwell19835 жыл бұрын
Didnt really think about it till now but you're right with the visibility part being gone if you have something youre moving sitting taller than the bed rails.

The con is that you can't see out your back window when you have something in the bed and it's blocking the rear window completely.

If you're not too limited on your budget then you may want to check out Diamondbackcovers.com, especially if loading/hauling an ATV, a SxS, or other heavy materials on top of your cover. Their HD model holds up to 1600lbs, plus they have two different styles of cab guards or a headache rack for rear window protection. Just about every component comes with a limited lifetime warranty - for the original owner - but the black coating has a 3 year warranty if you choose that option. And the best part...they are crafted and built in the USA!!

I had a Undercover hard cover on my F150 for 8 years. It was flawless. Try having a guy or two stand on these covers. The Undercover can hold multiple standing on it. The only downside, as you mentioned, is you need to think in advance if you need to haul something big. I used to take mine off by myself before hauling dirt bikes. It was easy.

I've had a Truxedo TruxPort for about 10 years on my Ranger Edge that is held in place with Velcro on both sides of the bed. It is going with my truck when I sell it and still looks good with no tears and works fine. No snaps and the tensioner keeps it tight hot or cold. It has been garaged about 50% of the time. Will be adding one to my new Ranger. No one has ever cut it to look at what I have under it but it keeps items covered and dry when it is needed. Practical and inexpensive for my needs and saves fuel.

Getting a tri fold put on tomorrow through line-x. Come to find out their house brand "Truck Gear" is a rebranded bakflip mx4. Comes at the same price point but includes a "LIFETIME" warranty. Its hard aluminum with a plastic finish texture. You can pay a bill more and get one sprayed with line-x if you choose too but i did not. Loved the comparison. It just came too late as i just made my purchase literally early today. No regrets still.
@NOSfusion4 жыл бұрын
How about after a year, any regrets?
@07slowbalt4 жыл бұрын
@@NOSfusion Honestly i love my truck gear trifold and would buy another for my next truck. It hasnt faded, gaskets havent warped and nothing has broke in over a year. If i had to knock anything at all and its just the nature of a trifold is it will have a small water leak by your tailgate. The 2 aluminum rails that run down each side of the bed can accumulate a little water and its design dumps them at your tailgate. This isnt to alarm you or should it scare you away from buying one. I would say during a rainstorm that amount would equate to a few teaspoons per side. I plan on soldering two bungs in or find a screw in fitting and just run a small hose down each side, super simple fix but isnt really needed. Everything else stays 99% dry. Ive used it in the upright position to move furniture, get a load of dirt, and works really good. Again the lifetime warranty is a no brainer when your choosing to drop $900+ on one of these. Dont take my word for it and go to a line-x store and look at one. Roll up ones get water in the hinges that freeze in the winter and jack knife, others have felt backing that collect dirt, and some take up way too much bed space. I would highly recommend this truck gear and its not just me being biased.

07slowbalt Wow. Thank you for the thorough write up. I’m between the Diamondback SE or the Bakflip MX4 Tri-fold. Leaning towards the MX4 because it folds out of the way completely. I think you just sold me on a tri-fold. Have a good one, thanks again

@@NOSfusion no problem at all. Just an fyi the truck gear is 100% identical to the backflip mx4 other than a different badge. Line-x told me this and i confirmed it since my brother has a mx4 on his gmc. Just keep in mind the mx4 does NOT come with a lifetime warranty whereas the truck gear does.

The solid cover was great back in the day before locking tailgates because you couldn't open the tailgate but with new locking tailgates the tri-fold and rolling are better for security. The locks on the solid covers are very much for show, just push up and it will pop open. Because they overhang, there is plenty of a lip to get your palm under to push it up...now let's be honest, getting the stuff out of sight is the biggest deal because no criminal is going to go and pop open every cover in a parking lot. The retractable cover is definitely the most secure, that seems like it would be pretty hard to break into, I wanted that but I frequently use the whole bed under my trifold. One nice thing about that is sometime you can open it all the way then let it rest on what you're hauling instead of blocking the back glass. Great video btw, lots of options out there and not a lot of side-by-side comparisons.

Personally I like the soft roll up covers. They don't show it in the video since it's really similar to the first one. But I don't keep stuff back there, at least not long enough to worry about. And it's pretty out of the way when rolled up. Velcro to put down easy. Bars under it for support of light ish stuff. If you put a plank of wood up there you can hold all kinds of things when tied down.
@jmdavidson14204 жыл бұрын
With the last cover, all you'll need is a few ratchet straps and you'll be good to go. I've had it on my '15 for 2 year's now and have strapped all types of building material's to it, as well as dressers and it's still solid. Only thing he did not mention is that if you have a feature on your truck to where you can pop your tailgate from your keyless entry or from your key fob, the edge of the cover wrap's over the edge of the tailgate, so that'll be a no go.

@shitloveaduck5 жыл бұрын
I know you like the tri-fold the most and I do as well but I don’t like the fact it blocks my rearward vision. I am perfectly capable of driving with mirrors only and yes there is a backup camera in reverse, but the backup cam does not function while going forward (I know a few exceptions are starting to pop up). There is a benefit of the middle rear view mirror when going forward as well. Not everyone (50 % maybe?) have little to no skills with using their rear view mirrors only. That negates the benefit of the flip up being all the way forward. So the other choices are fine. I do have a quadfold cover in a backflip MX4, still don’t like the vision issue but love that I can close the tailgate without having to open the lid each time. I use my truck box at the back without opening the cover 80% of the time. I prefer their rod system when the cover is open because it has a simple slide adjustment keeping it against the cab on the rubber bump stops. Just a more secure position. I live in southern Alberta Canada where we can have 75 mph crosswinds that extra step of being secured against the cab is significant here. I know you have to sell your product, it is your job, but there is nothing (well maybe patents) stopping you from putting the feedback to your supplier to have the things incorporated into your products. I also have a Truxedo Truxport on my other truck. It is Qw years old and the seams are starting to fail. It has been a truck that is garaged. It has 208,000 km (165,000 miles?) on it. I have been lucky there have been no break ins with that cover but when I park overnight with fishing gear in the back, I worry about break ins. I totally agree that hard covers are the way to go. Good luck with the covers you sell and all the best to ya! Thanks for the video.

I think it depends on where you go. Having lived in New Orleans, I know people that had their window broken out so someone could steal a $5 bill in their center console. I don't keep things in my bed, especially expensive things so in a high crime area I'd probably keep it rolled up so thieves don't knife my cover for nothing. It would fail the "knife" test but to be fair I wonder how the trifold cover would stand up to a crowbar? I'm not a criminal but knives can be a felony yet it's always legal to carry a crowbar. It's probably a good compromise choice for many people.

A knife is easy because you can put in your pocket and take it anywhere, a crowbar you have to carry which can be a hassle.

Hell meth heads will use power tools to take your catalytic convertor. To me unless you have something locked up in a gang box, it can be stolen in under 5 minutes with a common tool like a crowbar, knife, small hack saw, etc.

Can you do an episode on pickup sliding rear windows. Are they worth it ?

It would be nice if you compared a bunch of different soft covers. Diffs in latching mecs,bows,etc.

There may be an opportunity for us to do that in a later video- the point of this video however was to briefly run down the major styles you'll find on the site. -Justin

Can you screw on some steel or hard aluminum plates on the bottom of the cover? once they cut and see that they know they screwed. then all you have to do is replace the soft cover material.

On the hard cover...Do you have to open the top to lower the tail gate? It looks like it would be in the way.

Just stick a craft knife in the joints of the roller cover and cut the rubber strips that hinge the slats and your in ,was going to get one till I seen a video on how easy they are to get into

You didn’t add the soft Velcro roll up tonneau. I think is great.

You're right, we kind of just lumped the soft covers into one category for the sake of time. -Justin

I got a tri-fold cover and wouldn't go back. I do regret getting one with thin aluminum it's now corroded through and has lots of dents in it. the one big con with fiberglass hard tops is you have to have two people to remove it. I would never go back for that specific reason
