seems like a dreadful place. are there no alternatives to this route?

There aren't. The nearest parallel road is El Cajon Blvd, which doesn't have any bike infrastructure at all, not even a splash of paint.

respectful truck driver (on part where they gave you space as they passed you)

Another big thing is how long it takes to park. You either have to pay for parking, or take trips around blocks looking for an open spot.

You're re-telling my bike-riding origin story. I got tired of looking for parking in North Park, and decided walking a few blocks or riding a bike was easier. The it was also healthier, and here we are...

I wonder if the bicycle would still be faster if you were also hauling 50,000 pounds of cargo?
@RidingBikesinSanDiego10 ай бұрын
If it didn't have all that cargo, maybe it would fit in the bike lane?

Sooooo, what did the trucker do wrong? He was probably getting his directions together for his next stop(s) when he was parked in the bike lane. He left, he gave you room while he was passing, and you mention how he was now in the left lane at a traffic light. That left lane, by the way, is a turning lane. He obviously needed to use it. I'm not sure what you're trying to convey in this pointless video.

It's wrong for a truck to park in the bike lane. It's wrong for a truck to force people on bikes into the main travel lane. If you're not seeing that, you're at the wrong channel, kiddo.

@@RidingBikesinSanDiego The thing's practically a shoulder, I suppose there is no other place to pull over.

God forbid the truck driver found a safe spot to stop for a moment and probably verify his directions for a pickup or delivery. Keep complaining about trucks and stop shopping at any stores.
@RidingBikesinSanDiego10 ай бұрын
Oh! See, this is interesting, @willbrietzke9879. You say "found a safe spot." But this spot isn't safe for those of us depending on this bike lane on this high-speed road. He's not in a safe spot to stop. This is a thing drivers do: consider themselves, and not the vulnerable people who rely on the space they're taking away. We see it here, and when anyone else parks in the bike lane, or when a driver parks a car so that it blocks a sidewalk. What you--and those drivers--are missing is that not every space is meant to store your vehicle. Figure it out, without putting people in danger.

@RidingBikesinSanDiego When you have 70 feet of tractor trailer you take what you can get. I never said anything about it being okay for regular passenger vehicles to block certain areas.
@RidingBikesinSanDiego10 ай бұрын
Again, @willbrietzke9879, I love the rhetoric here: "you take what you can get." That is, the truck is bigger, so they can take what doesn't belong to them, other people be damned. You said it was safe, and it's not. If you think "might makes right," own it. If you can concede that maybe our infrastructure isn't designed for everyone--including this truck driver--to safely navigate, that seems more reasonable.
@willbrietzke987910 ай бұрын
@RidingBikesinSanDiego Clearly the infrastructure isn't ideal. But you seem incapable of putting yourself into the shoes of a Commercial Truck Driver that has to deal with this. It's an entirely different world in an 18 wheeler than it is on a bicycle. Take a step back and try to understand things from the side of the truck driver.
@RidingBikesinSanDiego10 ай бұрын
Do you hear yourself, @willbrietzke9879? You're demanding I take steps to see things from the point of view of the people who are putting me in danger. Obviously this isn't ideal: that's actually the thesis of this whole channel. And, it's also obvious that the truck driver, and engineers aren't taking the same steps at considering others. You're asking a lot of someone on bike to feel bad for the poor truck driver forcing me into traffic. It's difficult to conjure up that empathy when I'm trying to beat the light behind me so someone doesn't kill me. Maybe you also want me to weep for the poor traffic engineers who thought their design was good enough? You're asking the most vulnerable people on the road to consider those with the most power. Go lick a boot some place else.

I’m curious if you had gotten in an accident because you had to go around the truck if you could’ve sue them!
@RidingBikesinSanDiego10 ай бұрын
My sense would be yes, since the lane beside the bike lane is also where we'd have right of way over someone speeding up behind us
