TRUCK LOADED WITH CATTLE, HITS BRIDGE! But, were there other variables to consider, that could've helped avoid this? #trucks #bridge #crash #trucking #navigation #melbourne

Right I'm going to say this about the truck wiz. I made enquiries about b-doubles and the height WILL work for any combination as its height, but for a navigation device to have broad appeal in Australia the b-doubles on top of singles would be a bare minimum. What do you think. Why isn't Truck Wiz offering this feature? Further the signage needs to be a different colour for height restrictions, ie purple, also my default is to be immediately vigilant when approaching any bridge, even of a known height, preferably before.

Cheers for the feedback Mate. In a nutshell, we had developed programs that were working quite well whilst trialling B doubles within the app. Unfortunately our base map provider pulled the rug out from under us, which meant we could no longer offer doubles efficiently & 3 years of work went out the window. Coincidentally, this happened around the same time that we were starting to get a name for ourselves as having superior B-double routing over all other major navigation companies, who happen to also use the same base map provider as Truckwiz... That's being said, a lot of people still do use Truckwiz for b doubles and road trains, as for the most part the app is developed to stick to Truck and major routes. You just have to be vigilant that the route is correct before proceeding 👌🏼

That looks like the one I found one night, I'm glad I went in after curfew at midnight and I just backed back to the lights and spun it around in the intersection, woulda been screwed if it was daytime with the traffic.... Melbourne always gave me bad anxiety so I just timed it to get in after 10pm every time 😂, well said though, poor bloke, its bloody stressful starting out and the things that help you aren't always made known to you when you start out

Yeah I reckon you may have dodged a bullet there mate! Ha ha But yeah I'm the same with Sydney as well going to around the botany or mascot area. Still gives me a knot in my stomach today, and just like you sometimes it's better to do those things under the cover of darkness where you can get away with your stuff up a little bit better

Hi from France, i'm originally from Melbourne,drove for a couple of companies back in the late '70's,wharf work, LCL and FCL (who remembers that ?),yeah had my fair share of panic attacks concerning bridges,it's the same over here....

Yeah those would've been the days where every major arterial was basically scattered with low bridges 😆 Unfortunately trucks and transportation has got bigger, but the old infrastructure is still the same

Melbourne always was a nightmare for low bridges. I've even hit the Mc Robinson's Bridge in 1992 with a 4.3m high dry van. The road height was changed when they resurfaced the road without milling the old bed. It goes to show it can happen to anyone.
@TonesTruckinStories3 ай бұрын
I'm tipping that the current freeway wasn't even close to being made at that point as well? But yes a similar thing happened in Brisbane about six months ago where three trucks in a day hit a bridge that they had all been under dozens of times before because of the resurfacing
@Ausmerica3 ай бұрын
@@TonesTruckinStories It was only 2 lanes each way then and only went as far as Warrigal Rd. It was known as the Mulgrave Freeway then. That time we were still going up Kingsway through the city, as the Western Ring Road wasn't built yet. That rail bridge in the city was a tricky one then too, one really had to know the height of their truck and trailer, as there wasn't much room for error. Back then there was no GPS or Apps as today, it was all Road maps, and Melbourne's Melways was the best out of them all as it did have all the low bridges marked on it, especially in the city. It also had a section for the heavy vehicles OD routes in the city.

I can drive about 8 different trucks in a 5 day week doing local work with different sized tankers and i can tell you Brisbane will keep you on your toes. (or off them)

Yeah that would be a little bit of a challenge having to keep aware of all of those different heights. But I suppose the beauty is you are fully aware of it in the first place 👌🏼

Yet ironically, if there was a sign earlier for him to read, to turn, he possibly would never have been confronted with this situation 👍🏼
