I-70 shut down do to major snow storm. Snow drifts and blowing snow. What fun. Trucks are getting stuck all over, hard to get in and find a spot to park for the night.

Been there done that a few times. I remember getting stuck at the Iowa 80 T/S a few years ago during a blizzard that lasted two days. The only bad thing was that I parked in the back 40 spots of the "Worlds Largest Truck Stop" which made the main building seem like it was miles away. I had to walk into the fuel desk building just to warm up a bit before I finished my trek to the main building.

I don't miss the parking bit. I do miss the bit of being all safe and warm inside my little cave of a sleeper snuggling with my man and two kitties listening to the wind blow

Sure wish I could be there right now. I used to love the challenge of a snowstorm. Got snowed in back in '78 I think it was in Dayton Ohio for four days. Two days at an inside dock then two more days in a motel. Somebody drove us four drivers to the motel till the I 75 opened again. Winds to 100 mph. Truely! Snow felt like being sandblasted. Drifts still covered houses when I finally headed back North. Google it if you wasn't there.

I just watched your video.. My thoughts.. I watched as you drove in the snow slowly into the parking area. As you reached the area where you see the lights of the petro on the wall of that station... The wipers... Felt dreary and tired.. I sighed Bless you and all truckers. My bf is a trucker. I might ride with him for the first time to see the fall colors along his route. But I don't know if I am brave enough.

+Iain Ward Huh? No they don`t have 4 wheel drive they have 8 wheel drive! Its called a transaxle! Or power divider! I see no need to use it as long as I am rolling but there are times when you need it! Using it on the road will just use more fuel. I can tell that you are NOT a trucker! 4 wheel drive? LOL! That`s funny!
@jamessavile90708 жыл бұрын

@nahmaninisithole27346 жыл бұрын
Flashers beeping. Low air is a steady buzz to make sure you are aware of it and to deal with it before the brakes lock up or overheat or glaze when fully loaded coming down hill giving you a chance to stop and cool while building air pressure back up. By the way rookies,WABCO stands for Westinghouse Air Brake Company and has been the same brake system since invented for trains in the 1800's. It's how Westinghouse first got rich. Class dismissed.

+Neil Sutschek To judge a driver by the company he works for is idiotic! JB has good drivers, as does Schnieder and Swift! Sure many of these companies hire inexperienced drivers,but we all had to start somewhere! Never judge a driver due to the name on his truck! I could drive for Swift and STILL be the best driver out there! Just like I am right now!

Nobody has mentioned that when your tires have been rolling many miles carrying weight they get warm. Warmer than air or surfaces temps. Warmer than what is laying on surfaces. When you stop the tires begin to melt the snow or ice which creates water. Water is very slick then. Major problem at the drive axles.
@chrisroland22756 жыл бұрын
Trailer brakes freeze too so you have to crawl around under your trailer in the snow and water and pound on your drums with a hammer.

For my driver friends out there there's no such thing as a full truck stop. If you need to park behind a bunch of trucks in the rows between. But stay with your truck or check with the other drivers before you leave yours.

Have learned that you can put your truck's engine into a special mode where in a case like this you can keep it running as long as you need to to keep the inside of the cab nice and warm and hardly use a drop of fuel no matter how long you keep it running, one of these days. unless I am missing something here, will be able to do this for cars, like if you get stuck in a traffic jam and you know your not going to go anywhere for a real long time and it's really cold outside like it is in your video here
@flashgo29 жыл бұрын
Wimbasto heaters i think is the name. The engine is not running. It is a special heater that uses a shot glass worth of fuel an hour. In this cold he would have to start main engine every 4-6 hours to keep fuel frpm gelling.
@alensolic65448 жыл бұрын
+Josh Gordon Webasto not wimbasto. German system (I belive) that is in use in Europe for decades now. My E30 BMW had it and it's a car from 1988. Look detailes via google.

@sheba6789 Every time the weight of the load is questionable. For example empty weight is 32,000 and the Load weight is 47,000=79,000lbs. you would want to scale it. not all weight are accurate on the paper work.
