Don’t forget the rusty brake lines. They will fail. I replaced mine with stainless steel lines.

Knowledge and experience required to know where to look and a solution for a potential rust problem down the road. Nice truck Morgan hope it serves you many years. 👍👍

If 50% of the diameter is gone that means only 25% of the strength remains , ( double the diameter = quadruple the area ) When I used to do rustproofing I'd use a body Schutz gun to apply a wax based liquid in any hollow sections , the volatiles then evaporate off leaving a wax film barrier from moisture and air . The gun comes with a spray nozzle and 50cm / 18" or so of flexible pipe , going in a 1/2" hole either direction means you can cover about a metre / 3' of section , e.g. sills or chassis rails . Tar based coatings are better for under body sheet metal .

Thanks Gordon, you can’t argue with real world physical properties. I’m definitely going to be replacing the u bolts. I’ve got a cavity spraying setup that I use on all the rust repair work that I do.

It's crazy how bad those u-bolts deteriorated. It's nice to have a hoist like that. (I am envious, lol) I got to see the bottom of my car last week but it wasn't on a hoist. It was the wrong side up after a high speed blow-out. Unexpected things can happen so quickly. Thanks for the video Morgan.

I think some things are engineered to fail ! so the consumer has to spend to keep it going. Like a hot water tank, I had to buy one not long ago and they actually had a 6,8 or 10 year model ????? i was like what the engineer the to fail ?

Morgan " Metal Artist " taking it to the simplest easiest most understandable statement. We're trapped by the system of over engineered industrialization. My hot water tank is starting to fail also, thinking of easier way to keep it clean and functional for 20 years is on my plate.🛠️

Just like the fold on the wheel wells that would fill with crap and rust out. Actually amazed that they would build something like that under the trucks . At least the wells are east to spray out and clean.

Oil will preserve that for sure...likely seen some dirt roads over the years getting to camp spots. Definitely worth doing for sure.

It’s amazing how much dirt accumulates under a truck, I did some more work on it and another 2 pounds of junk fell out of it.

On mine I bought barnes off-road ubolts and plate that flips the u bolts. I have seen rust bolts that broke and cocked the rear end slightly and chewed up the rear tires due to being out of alignment. Also have seen after removing the bad u bolts the rear end tube rusted out enough that it leaked fluid after torquing down the new u bolts.

I am concerned about the axle tubes. Any chance you have a part number for that kit?

i know you been a mechanic or jack of all trades me to for 30 years maybe you already thought about it but after u bolts id think of something to spray or put on the u bolts to protect from rust i go under my trucks here in michigan with a facemask hat and goggles and hit frame with drill with wire brush then cover frame with a protective if its a vehicle i know i wanna keep for a long time
