I sold my 1998 dodge ram 1500 quad cab about 3 yrs ago, I bought it new, the 5.9 never dripped any fluids, never used any oil, ran fantastic like the day it was made. Always changed the syn oil at 5000 or less, did the maintenance needed. I never had an a/c problem, still had the original spark plug wires, original radiator and alternator. And folks may say that I should have replaced the heater hoses and such but they were still working fine the day I sold it. I towed heavy with it and had it loaded up with dirt and gravel many times. I still waxed it 3 times a year, the paint still shined like new but living in a salt state the rust bug was starting to show. My neighbor down the street bought it an still drives it

I miss my 2019 5.7 Laramie; I skipped the Limited because I didn’t want the sunroof, matinee screen, or the air ride, but loaded it up with all the other stuff like cooled seats, power steps, and 360 cameras. In the 4 years I had it before someone blew a red light and took it out, the only issue I had was the cameras kept having artifact issues when the temp dropped below 20F overnight, and needed to run for a bit to go away; I suspect they were susceptible to moisture intrusion which then froze on the internal lens. I skipped the locking rear diff, but had a Eaton Truetrack mechanical LSD installed which made the rare iced parking space after a snow storm easy to crawl out off, which was the only thing the brake simulated LSD just couldn’t handle. The other benefit is that I didn’t have to worry about the brakes overheating on a low traction dirt trail, though I was never on a trail aggressive enough to need to change the stock tires, let alone test the brakes. The power step on the RAM is much better than the power step on the Ford F150 Powerboost I replaced it with, as it comes out and down at least 2” more making it much easier to stand on and use to access the roof and the bed. I’ve been looking for extensions for the Ford power step, but I have not found anything. I also found the RAM seats to be softer and more comfortable, though I never realized how terrible the AC was until I got the Ford. I did need to install a backup light, as the camera in the RAM does not brighten the image enough at night like Ford does. That can easily be fixed with software, which I hope RAM has by now. Payload wasn’t great compared to Ford, but RAM has never been the truck to get for payload due to mostly steel and air ride or coils on the rear. The ride doesn’t even compare though; the Ford is fine (similar to a budget car but better than older trucks and HD trucks), but the RAM rides like a Cadillac, just floating over the road. I could drive in the RAM all day, while I need to take a break every few hours in the Ford to relax and unwind a bit. The Ford felt like the Ranch hand’s truck, built for work, while the RAM was the Ranch owner’s truck, built for comfort.

Just moved from a 19 Limited to 24 Powerboost Lariat myself. Ford feels more truck ish while the ram had nicer interior. Ram had some leaks and the dash was bubbling at 5yr old/38k mi. Sometimes I miss the Ram, especially the air ride that sometimes didn’t work. Overall the Ford is a better truck but it has its quirks with the wind noise and bad brake pedal motor.
@SillyDillysTunes29 күн бұрын
@KGLIer23 My Rams tow rating is only 250lbs less than the Ford. The Payload is is 2,300lbs on my RAM Etorque off road package. 3,375lbs. So a solid 1,000lbs more due to leaf springs. But as a 1500, 2,300lbs is far more than I can fit in the bed and I wouldn't trade ride comfort and geometry superiority for more Payload. Fords interior, is atrocious. They also don't offer a v8 F150 and even when they did, it was a short stroke engine. I'll keep the Ram.

I have been doing autoglass for 14 years and I can say with confidence that the windshield on the newer body rams are nowhere near as thick and touch as the previous years and body styles when it comes to the OEM Mopar glass . The ceramic coating might have helped a little but like I tell all my customers if you can't afford OEM I use OEE which is technically considered aftermarket but the OEE glass is Equivalent or better quality and if you get the OEE glass on these from Pilkington or Fuyoa it is better quality and thicker than the Mopar glass lol . I've done so many of these new rams and it always blows me away how cheap and thin the original windshield is

So I’ve got a 2004 Dodge Durango with a 57 hemi it only has 325,000 miles on it. Realize this is an all-wheel-drive vehicle and I have never replaced anything on the transmission or the drivetrain or fix the engine in any manner. It still has the original water pump and as you can imagine it is weak so I am going replace it, this vehicle as it has a very high tow rating as it’s a limited and I have towed with it dozens of times 10,000 pound trailers from Salt Lake City to Vegas. it has the original alternator and starter as well. If you look around, you will see Duran Duran Durango that are previous models to mine and the same as everywhere and if you look for vehicles that were built in the same years by anyone else you will not find them on the road except an extreme few that is how well built dodge is. I would be happy to provide pictures of the vehicle and the odometer as proof I know for a fact since this is my second Dodge vehicle the first being a 93 1500 which I put 550,000 miles on it before I gave it away. This one will easily do 400,000 miles before major replacement parts are needed. I would be glad to get statements from my friends who driveFords and Chevys as they can attest to you their amazement on how long I’ve owned this vehicle and how it’s never worked on. Oil changes are every 6500 miles. and he’s not lying my first set of plugs as the hemi has two plugs per cylinder were swapped out at 200,000 miles and it never misfires or did but I knew they had to be done and I was right the electrodes were burnt flush, but that’s a test. I’m gonna have good. The coils are compared to a Ford have never replaced any of them and never will need to.

Quick story to pass on: Traded my '18 F150 SuperCrew 4x4 3.5L for a '20 Ram 1500 Big Horn 4x4 Hemi. Under the 100 day warranty with Carvana, I brought it in for inspection. They found a cracked exhaust manifold that Carvana did not find...I guess. They took out a bolt and coolant poured out. The bolt had never been screwed in but was seated in the engine. This led to the heads needing to be replaced which somehow led to the warranty company replacing the entire engine with a Stellantis provided one. The mechanic wanted a Jasper, but I said, hey, just put in the engine. Took 4 weeks. 3 y3/100k miles. I broke it in to 1k miles, changed the oil, and soldiered on. Towed a trailer and two side by sides to Tennessee, about 240 miles each way, no issues at all. A few weeks later I started the engine and the body vibrated like it had a huge aftermarket exhaust, and sounded like it. I pulled out of the driveway and the engine light came on, power felt like it was way down. I parked it and had it towed back to the mechanic. Come to find out the new engine #3 cylinder is shot. It's now at a Dodge dealer for the rest of the diagnosis and possible replacement. I'm trying not to get a bad feeling about this truck since I was really loving it. I really hope the 3rd engine is the charm.

Zf transmission fluid on 8-speed transmissions is every 60,000 miles or 8 years. Which ever comes first. This includes the transmission fluid and filter. Trucks that experience more aggressive driving styles or are used in the commercial delivery industry and contractor trades are typically subjected to heavy city traffic or trailer pulling that generates extreme heat in the transmission. Owners that subject their vehicles to these types of severe driving conditions should consider replacing the transmission fluid and filter more frequently, such as every 40,000 miles to 50,000 miles. The 8HP75 is an amazing transmission it is bulletproof. Chrysler does not want to touch them and they rather you buy a new truck. ZF makes amazing transmissions that are engineered to be maintained. Yes, fluids overall have tripped in quality and efficiency. I get it if you wanna test the quality of the factory fluid and see how long it can last. Again they are bullet proof and my truck has one andIi love it. I get the most MPG when not towing going around 60-62mph and getting 25.6 MPG. I average 512 miles a tank. Also, CV axles can be rebuilt and commonly done.

@NLYS27Ай бұрын
@@eamonob84 I have a 345 Hemi Max Efficiency on the highway is 1500rpm my and MPG in the city is 17.7. Secret is Copper Plugs Good quality synthetic oil paired with a synthetic oil filter "Every 3k miles or 3 months. Which ever comes first" Proper tire pressure and proper tires "for what you need them for" Maintain a clean system, i use Chevron because it has cleaning additives and i add Marvel Mystery Oil either every or other fill-up. I use 91 Octane fuel or higher. This works best on highways but i strictly use it. A good quality air filter that filters very well but still has good airflow. K&N are terrible filters for filtering but are great for airflow. This will result in having a cleaner engine since there are fewer contaminants entering the engine. Resulting in cleaner oil. Replacing all fluids and oils, like radiator, differential, and transmission. The less friction you have on mechanical components the less force is needed to make them work/move, clean radiator fluid means more efficiency in dispersing heat. I also have MDS disabled to prevent damage and it doesn't matter if you dont take care of bad oil habits are also the reason why the Hemi fails. I do drive with A/C on GOOD DRIVING HABITS "You Dont Need to Drive Like a Great Grandpa" I have a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4 with a 360 "5.9L". I average 13.97 combined driving and around 16.368 on the highway. I joined a group that likes to get hyper mileage, guys get 21-24 mpg after they upgrade parts and remove some emissions "no cat" and get them tuned. So for older vehicles, it is possible to make more efficient and near close to new ones. I learned a lot from owning a 1950 Dodge B2B truck "Half-Ton" The original owner's manual and dealership training videos give advice on how to make sure you get great gas mileage and make it last as long as possible. The best i can in that truck is 22.2MPG going 35mph "Which was designed for". The truck is all original with a factory engine and transmission. The mileage is normal for that vehicles of that era.

AWESOME REVIEW. THANKS. I HAVE A 2016 WITH 85000 MILES ON HER. GOT A LITTLE TICK. OTHER-WISE EVERYTHING IS GOOD.. HAVE A VERY SMALL CHIP IN MY FRONT WINDOW FOR OVER A YEAR NOW. ? ? ? LOVE MY TRUCK.
@Ason426Ай бұрын
I have a 2020 big horn with 75,000km. Issues ive had so far are: alternator, rear sliding window replaced for water leak, both front shocks, sway bar end links, tailgate hinge, hood had rust under the paint. Everything replaced by dealer except the struts, although i had to fight to have most of the issues covered by them. Despite having the sway bar links replaced i still get clunking over uneven roads. The links keep loosening and i have to get under the truck and tighten them. My guess is the loose end links have caused the sway bar holes to oval which caused the links to move around no matter how much i tighten them. So ill probably have to replace the sway bar. I have a lot of those rock chips mentioned on my truck as well but that just happens. Overall i like the truck. No issues with engine or transmission. Biggest issue right now is the clunking from the sway bar.

My 2019 Jeep Grand Cherokee had the same fuel setup and would trip if you set the fuel to high. I found if you put the nozzle in but left it a little out, it wouldn't trip. Just kind of put it in half way. Something to do with the "pressure", would cause it to trip the pump.

the big problem with the 4th gen hemi is when they got the "tick" noise it was mainly the manifold leak cause by broken bolts! PITA to fix. but somewhere in the 5th gens theyve added braces to the manifold to cause the manifold to crack. yes more expensive to replace/fix but way easier to repair (labor wise).

2019 Big Horn 1500 60k miles w/ slight lift to fit 35s since new and factory LEDs. Exhaust manifolds replaced at 40k, rear window crack (wasn't leaking) replaced 2021, and same steering wheel wear which isn't dirt. I've had the actual Hemi tick for about 15 seconds every start since new, even had them put in new lifters at 8k miles. Still does it no matter what oil I use (Redline, Penzoil, 5w-20, 5w30). It's annoying but hopefully isn't cause to much wear to the cam. Always parked outside. Other than that she's been great and I do my own maintenance. Diff and trans fluid at 50k and oil changes every 5k. Been following this series since the first video, appreacite it!

When it comes to the windshield, there is a cluster of writing in one of the bottom corners. There should be a DOT number, and if that number is 1038, then it was made in the same factory as the OEM.

I had always heard the “hemi tick” was a valvetrain/cam problem, not an exhaust manifold issue
@Oldschoolrules123Ай бұрын
@@pathunter7003 REALLY? An exhaust manifold bolt broke on my right side over 5 years ago. It cost me 500 at a Dodge dealer to get it fixed. 2 years later a left side bolt broke and I still haven't fixed it and it still has a tick for about 30 seconds or so and disappears.
@pathunter7003Ай бұрын
@@Oldschoolrules123 yes the cracked manifold can quiet down once it gets warm and expands. But the hemi tick was known as a pretty constant ticking noise due to poor oil circulation/pressure in the valvetrain, the cam lobe could even get a flat spot worn on it. I’ve never owned a hemi myself, and that issue was part of the decision not to buy one

There were supply issues to where Laramie models were not able to add tech package and blind spot monitoring, however it was still available on the Limited, Longhorn, & TRX.
