I team drove for a couple months. there was times that if we were to get to a customer, we would both sleep. If it was too hot or cold we would leave the truck running. One night we got to our pick up and backed into the dock and went to bed.... I woke up out of a dead sleep because it felt like we were moving. I literally jumped from the top bunk and landed on the shifter ( almost went up my behind). And got in the driver's seat and trying to to stop it so hard the low air warning came on and pulling on the air valves and trailer brake. I was yelling to my co driver help me stop. He wakes up and tell me were not moving. The a/c was on so the windows were covered with condensation. He told me to turn the wipers on so I did. He said see were not moving, now go back to bed. I went to bed and about 2 hours later it happened again. Then I stayed up.

When I was in CDL school, we had an exact procedure for stopping the truck. When I forgot to set the brakes first, the instructor made me get out of the truck... and of course it was rolling pretty good by the time I hit the ground. Proud to say it was the last time! We bought that instructor a box of his favorite cigars - he was aggravating but he sure taught us well. The thing that gets me is when you are sitting with your foot on the brakes and another truck suddenly moves... amazing how hard you push on that pedal!

I wore flip flops ONCE while driving, and they almost killed me! I went to move my foot from the gas to the brake, and the brake pedal slipped between the sole of my shoe and the sole of my foot, so all I could manage to get onto the brake pedal was my big toe, which wasn't enough to stop my vehicle. The PANIC was very real! When I got home, I tossed those flip flops into the trash, and have never worn a pair since!

I don’t own a trucking company, but I do own a construction business. I have a couple rigs, 12 trucks and vans. Through experience, the type of person who takes pictures of truck numbers and names is someone pissed off because they are late or looking for money. One time, my secretary tells me there’s been a report of a truck from this morning claiming they tried to force them off the road and yelled racist slurs out the window. Well, there was only one truck anywhere near there, MINE. And I’m damned sure I did neither of those things. However, I did have an asshole pass me on the shoulder at a stop sign and run the sign, for whatever reason, probably late. And they were offended I was doing only 5 over the limit, and made up a lie. You also get people who try to brake check company trucks in hopes you rear end them and they can suck money. As I tell my guys, the GPS and dash cam is their friend. I don’t give a shit if they stop at a gas station or to have a smoke or even need a ten minute nap. I’m worried about the money sucks.

The Cat Weigh my Truck app has been around a lot longer than that. It's great to weigh and go if you are good. I'd email the scale ticket to the office so that I got paid for it. I got my co to get transflo as an app and sometimes I'd have my bills sent in before pulling out of the dock. Before the scale app, I always pulled forward to not block the scale or 8d circle around to the fuel island if there was no other option..

He cannot legally go up to a truck and asked the driver if they want to buy a truck mattress that is called soliciting or solicitation of business. The point is you follow basic protocol. Fuel. Pull forward. Get your receipt and maybe a coffee. Return to your truck. Period. Chances are he does this regardless of how busy it is. If you take longer than about 8 minutes inside, you're wrong. Started 29 years ago so don't tell me I don't know what I'm talking about.

In general truck drivers don’t give a sh*t. Driving way too fast, pass left and right, park on the shoulder, don’t know how to use their reflective triangles / four ways / turn signals, don’t do their pre-trip and securement checks, tailing, blocking lanes, blocking entrance / exit, and so on. I see it daily hundreds of times and then they cut me off for driving the speed limit and driving in the lane I’m supposed to drive in.

There ARE signs saying pull forward. The Petro in Sturdevant, WI will ticket drivers taking more than 10 minutes away from their trucks at or past the pump.... and despite all the signs warning this, drivers are still bitching about it. Personally, I say, "Bravo!!" Too many drivers are too F ing lazy to park and walk a couple hundred feet.... pretty soon, they'll bring their mobility scooters on the catwalk so they can ride up to the freaking store.

It's a Traffic Offense to wear flip flops while driving a truck in Australia. You can drive in bare feet, but not with Flip flops. If you have them on you must kick them off because if they see you wearing them when you open the door for license and log book checks, you will get a Ticket.

If you don’t wanna use it then go park in a parking spot. Not complicated to understand. And if you need to rescale you can circle around immediately

Don’t always be too critical about people with the scale. There’s nobody on the scale and when you get done weighing, and pulling off most of the time you don’t expect to be standing 20 to 30 minutes waiting for your scale ticket. I have waited at the counter because somebody had to buy lotto tickets, CB radios and cigarettes all at the same time. Your intention is to be in there like two minutes because you may have to go back on the scale but the wonderful world of truckstops as they are take forever especially customers that can’t make up their mind on which color cigarette pack they want to buy.

I don't care what your intention was. You don't park in front of the scale and go inside to get your ticket. PERIOD. You go find another place to park, THEN, go inside and get the ticket. Early one afternoon, I was at a truckstop and was in line to get scaled, and some bonehead was parked in front of the scale. He didn't come out to his truck for 20 minutes. Meanwhile, the line to use the scale was out into the street. There were plenty of parking that he could've used after scaling.

FMCSA doesn't have a law about flip flops, but each state might, so it's more of a state requirement. I personally don't wear them, but 20 years of driving has shown me why 🤷.

You'll be alright, I'm 37 years ( yesterday) into the driving joyride. Takes a lot more patience to tolerate today's ignorant steering wheel holders ( big trucks and 4 wheelers), but it can be done. Good Luck and be safe. 😎
