What is this place? What do they do there?
@petebachelder11312 жыл бұрын
@@Melissa0774 Many years ago it was some kind of mine, not sure what they mined, then it closed and they converted it into underground storage because it has a natural effect on temperature and humidity year round, something like 52˚ Fahrenheit, a very inexpensive way of storing things like dry goods for long periods of time. When I was there I picked up 22 pallets of sugar, full trailer load. I think they even ran trains in there on railroad tracks, or at least they did years ago, quite impressive inside.
@Melissa07742 жыл бұрын
@@petebachelder1131 The air brakes, (I think that's what it is,) on the truck in this video sounds exactly like an elephant call because of the echo. I can only imagine what the train must sound like down there, especially if they blow the whistle, though I don't see why they would. EDIT: Actually on second thought, I just realized I was thinking of the other video I watched before this one, of a truck backing up inside the caves. I was actually referring to that high pitched speaking noise the trucks make when they stop.
@petebachelder11312 жыл бұрын
@@Melissa0774 If your talking about the sound at 8:22 yes that is the air brakes, or better put the parking brakes, never heard it compared to an elephant call, that's interesting... Trains don't need to use horns in there, only trucks and employees, the general public isn't allowed in so the same rules don't apply. Besides it would be deafening with the sound waves bouncing off the walls.

Kiss your dispatchers ass for the crap. That's when they compensate with the good. Time off is to punish you. Wheels not turning You're not earning. Nor is the company with your truck. 40 years ago, during the nationwide running boom, I was in a 10-K run in this underground facility. It was called, "The Great Underground Fun Run." The circuit wasn't long enough for one lap, so we had to do two laps to make the difference. I remember the race leaders and everyone else being shocked that they all beat their personal best times. People thought the caverns had something to do with it. But they soon realized the people who laid out the course made it too short. Some people were upset about that, but most remembered it was advertised as a FUN RUN, and wasn't a certified or sanctioned event. And running underground WAS fun. I still remember it clearly from 40 years ago. :-)
