This was my first lone assignment out of CDL school with PRIME. I was already a nervous wreck but the cave conditions made it a million times worse. I was supposed to bump a dock right in between 2 trucks that were waiting on the dock already. I didn’t waste anytime. I got out of my truck, held up a $20 bill and waited for the first brother trucker to hop in and back it for me. I never got his name but I’m eternally grateful to him. 😂🙏🏻

He’s right most people would have cut the recording and came back backed to the dock, like they did it unassisted. I appreciate showing everyone the pitfalls. But also how people collectively put their minds together and come up with a solution. Nice work!!!!!

You can't be the first oversize truck they have ever had down there This seems to be a huge problem that your truck is simply to big for tight turns . Perhaps you should think of getting a cabover like we have here in UK . Your truck is perfect for vast journeys.
@OTRBandit

@@philipcounsell4709we don’t have many cab overs because we don’t really need them that much. Most of the driving that we do is on wide open roads. This tight space mess happens only once in a while. But I definitely wouldn’t mind driving Scania, that’s for sure.

But everything worked out at the end, and I was really happy about that.

I was in a situation like that in Cleveland trying to pick up a load of railroad track with a 45 foot flatbed. This company had recently bought the building and had moved the equipment of the previous company outside. There were narrow dirt tracks to maneuver to back into the building, but the equipment was on each side of the dirt tracks blocking every move. When I saw there would not be a chance of getting in thebuilding they brought the forklift to move the trailer into position for me to back in. In the process they damaged the air line on the trailer which they repaired. Never a dull moment in trucking. Been retired since 2016 and now I drive 600 miles a year, sometimes less. Enjoying the channel. Stay safe and prosperous. Nice Peterbilt. Speaking of bad roads in Ok. When I drove Route 287 through there I thought I would need dental implants because it about shook my teeth out.
@OTRBandit
@OTRBandit Ай бұрын
That’s funny right there about the implants. These roads are so bad that my truck is in the shop right now getting a second alignment in less than two months. I was lucky that they didn’t damage anything on my trailer here. They have done this many times before and they knew what they were doing.

I hauled a container load into that same underground storage. And the guy on the phone said so fast to slide the tandems on the trailer forward that I didn’t hear him correctly and I went in way to long in the turn. And the first thing I know I’m stuck well the hustler came and started acting all tuff and I just came up to his level and said I can just drop this pos right here or you can help me out so he did. Well I made it that day and when my dispatch found out I could make it he sent me back the next day. But this time I knew to slid my tandems forward and it was a piece of cake that day.

@@perstaffanlundgren They have them. We call them yard dogs (some say yard truck) and yes they are very handy... if companies want to invest in them.. they can cost as much as some trucks. They are single rear axle cabovers basically and they can actually lift the front of the trailer off the ground (the 5th wheel goes up and down) so they don't have to crank legs up to move trailers (except when in a cave where you only have inches of clearance on top obviously.)

I also once spent 6 weeks working in Colombia, MI working on a clinical trial at a Pathologist Center flying out on the week ends from St Louis back home. That Route 70 has to be one of the heaviest density of tractor trailer rigs in the country. I can appreciate your driving skills as before going back to university I drove trailers with a helper Teamster for a Anhueser Busch subsidiary in Boston through the city delivering beer for 6 years. Those tractor trailers were super easy to spin around in the street as your Peterbilt cab alone was more than half the length of my entire rig.

I only drove 18 wheeler for one year back in '93. Drove a orange cabover and it would have made it in the caves, but it sure wasn't comfortable like your rig. Saw the whole USA in that one year and decided that wasn't the job for me. Kind of enjoyed it some of the time and was miserable some of the time. Glad I had the chance to try it for sure. Never new a place like the caves existed. That would have been something for me to experience and it looks like it is just a everyday stop for lots of people. Held on to my cdl for many years after the work it took to get it. Then one year I just decided to drop it and the people at the Tx Dot asked me a couple of times if I really wanted to give it up. Thanks for sharing I subscribed and will leave the driving to you guys. The worst thing for me was grocery warehouses they made me hate the job!

Speakin of cabovers, I sure do miss seeing those things on the roads here in the USA. I remember I saw them everywhere back in the 90s & down. These days I mostly see conventional cabs. At first I didn't know why the cabovers phased out & then I've learned it was because the length law has changed. In other words, the length limit was increased which eliminated the need for cabovers to pull trailers that exceeded an overall length of 65ft.
@OTRBandit

@@KevinRichards-my5ojthat’s exactly why we don’t see them anymore. They changed the law and now you have jackasses like me and other guys with even longer trucks out here. @OTRBandit I still see cabovers out on the roads, just very seldom. I don't see 2 or more close to each other like I use to back in the day. Down in Jamaica, there's several of those International 9670 & 9700/9800 cabover models. Believe it or not, Kenworth still builds cabovers which surprised me. But they sell them down in New Zealand & other countries overseas.

Drivers always park in the parking area to the right and call before you go inside and check in. They will tell you when to go in and how to get to where you need to be. So other drivers don’t get held up by you blocking the road to check in or wait on a door. Some areas are only big enough for one truck at a time especially the turns. Just stay slow and take your time. Blindsiding and U turns are impossible to do in the Independence Caves. The good thing is once you get inside you can make a complete circle around the out side where you can then go back out turn around and go back in the right way. Some of the docks are very tight and most places do have more than 1 dock. I go into Burd and Fletcher a lot and each dock is different and they have a couple that are a real pain. You did good and that was very stressful. Some docks are a bitch with any sleeper truck. Beautiful Truck
