1970, my base, Tuy Hoa was part of the draw down. i was a crew chief on F-100s in the Air Force. waiting for new orders on where to send me to finish my tour, the AF decided to assign me to the army. riding shotgun from Tuy Hoa to Qui Nohn. did that for a week or so until my orders came thru sending me to Danang to finish my tour.

Driven thousands of miles through South Vietnam South of Saigon in my 5-ton dump truck. Many miles on QL-4 to pick up gravel at My Tho for road building. Shot at several times too. One-lane bridges, three-wheelers, roadside bombs, kids wanting to ride with me, mud, nighttime tracers green and red, flat tires, rainy season, flares, frag grenades, bandoliers of ammo, and the M-16 hung on my window latch! Then there was Cambodia! 571st Eng, 3rd Bge, 9th Inf 69-70

I saw many gun trucks on the hi way going from 1 st Log in Qui Nhon to An Khe, spring of ‘69. I was a medic at 17 th Field Hospital, 3/‘69-6/‘69. And also saw remnants of ambushed vehicles alongside the hiway. We all did our jobs and duty.

Fran, i was with the 88th till march 71 on Satan's Chariot gun truck as the tail gunner. Your family member must have got there after the move from an khe to Qui Nohn. I didn't know him i dont think, but we're still linked as brothers in arms. Our V A gives me pretty fair medical care but i only was able to get a 10%. But have several other problems they don't really want to address. I believe every veteran who has served in a foreign country should have complete health care at any medical facility for any condition at any time.

@@derryldebruhl2769 Thank you Derryl for your service. My brother-in-law would speak of his service in Vietnam and now due to dementia associated with PTSD which the VA keeps denying he is in a VA Nursing home unable to speak or do anything else. He has been denied for almost 11 years and that is what many vets speak to. I believe that if you serve you best be taken care of once you get home, no matter what war you fight in. Bless you.

I wonder if LBJ and McNamara and the rest of those responsible for Vietnam ever saw pictures like these. I, as an American who did not fight in Vietnam, need to see as many as possible of videos and stills and verbal descriptions so that I can understand and begin to pay back the debt to those who did fight there and who were not honored here for doing so. The only thing I can say positively is that I did not dishonor the troops. So it is not personal guilt that makes me say this.
