Can't say enough thanks sir! I failed my test last week because of the reverse offset, found your video over the weekend, and it helped immensely. Got back to the MVA today and crushed it. Executed the reverse offset in 3 minutes with no pullups. Thank you!

Thank you for your comment. At least 2 students should make a request for one more tractor trailer to be added. If everyone is getting enough time for practice it may be okay. But get your feeling on the record.

Thanks to your video Trucker Steve, I passed my skills test today!! ( as well as my air brakes, in cab and pre trip) I would like to personally thank you for knowledge and skills!! During my reverse off set backing at the CDL DMV, I encountered the same issue I had in my trucking school ( San Diego, CA) my trailer was to far in the box. But, I did exactly what you demonstrated in your video. I pulled up to the right and straightened out my trailer, and backed in at the same markers as you mentioned. It worked like charm!! I sent your video to all my class mates so they can take what they can from the video. I salute you Trucker Steve!! You've helped me and my family to a better life. I thank you!! God Bless!!

Yeah my CDL instructors don't tell us to get out and look. They say we can during the test but never have us actually do it in class and they don't get in the truck with us to teach us, only when they take us out on the road, but I will never get out on the road if I can't get this straightline backing and this reverse offset which are both kicking my ass 😢

Thanks for the demonstration. I am learning to get the License now. I have a question. I see you did dry steering (truck stop and you turn the wheel to left or right) 2 times, normal steering (truck rolling and you turn the wheel to left or right) 2 time. I see from the other driver's demonstration, some of them do dry steering also. I don’t know if it is the only option or doesn't matter. Usually, dry steering can damage the steering system and tires a lot. please let me know if you can.

I hope ASAP, my students will learn to react to the trailer and make the proper turns. You are right, stopping and turning the steering wheel can overheat the steering gear box. Many of my students never stop- so much easier to steer. Thank you for your comments.

Have quite a few videos on the new CDL Skills. Once you understand how to maneuver the trailer ( making the trailer go where YOU want it to go ) you will get it in every time. Even with a poor setup, you will fix it and into the alley you will go! A good setup, the right side of the tractor trailer will be about 1 yard From the top cone as you enter into the alley. Practice as much as possible - to the point where you become the boss of your trailer. It’s okay to screw up at times - when this happens, ask yourself - What did I do wrong? And make the right decision next time.

Hey trucker steve im good with all the steps except knowing how far to go left/right when coming out of the cones to line myself up straight to begin backing back in
@truckerstevecdlinstructor
@truckerstevecdlinstructor 11 ай бұрын
Several videos on my channel about this question. First when pulling out of the alley you need to clear the cone bottom left. ( should be where the hash marks start). Next as you are pulling out to the left ( about 10 feet). If you’re mirror is properly positioned you will see the cone and the hash mark. ( the hash mark and cone where your right rear trailer tire will go between). When you see this, start steering to the right and make sure to clear the right cone but keep close to it. If you can see the cone and hash mark you should never hit what you can SEE. If needed make a slight adjustment but stay close. It should be 3 to 4 feet between the cone and the hash mark. Did I confuse you? Do you understand what I am saying? Have you viewed all of my videos on this? Click onto videos on my channel. Hopefully this is of some help.

@@truckerstevecdlinstructor so after my trailer tires completely clear the striped cone on the drivers side then i should be able to see the cone and hash mark on the right side? Or after my trailer tires clear the striped cone drivers side then i hard right to get back over and line up straight? I 100% know how to look in my right side mirrors and line up the trailer in between hash mark and cone and then complete the skill my problem is the very first hard left when exiting the test lane i dont know how far to go before i go back hard right to get it straight/drag my trailer in between hashtag/cone … like sometimes i wind up going to far left when coming out of the lane and then have to over correct so hard to get in between the hash mark and cone on right side that i wind up in front of the damn lane then have to straight line it all the way back and start over lool i know its a stupid question to still be stuck on.. im in Maryland i found out about you from a former instructor you worked with
@truckerstevecdlinstructor
@truckerstevecdlinstructor 11 ай бұрын
Must clear the cone on the left. Then start back to the right. When you clear the cone coming out of the alley, you are out of the alley and can start coming back to the right. You will see the cone and hash mark. Now if needed you can make any adjustments so not to hit the cone and stay in between the cone and hash mark. This is not a hard skill to do as long as you practice it several times.
@truckerstevecdlinstructor
@truckerstevecdlinstructor 11 ай бұрын
Just wanted to add this: when you clear the cone on the left, check your right mirror to make sure you are out of the alley. When the trailer is out of the alley come back to the right between the cone and the hash mark

You practice the Alley Dock until you are proficient. Let’s say you do Six Alley Docks - you are successful 4 out of 6 - You are proficient but not there yet. If you know how to react to your trailer ( making the correct adjustments) you will be almost 100%.

Sorry, you are right. Just do 4:56 n’t over do your pull ups. Keep them no more than 10 feet. Pulling up to the right, moves the-rear of the trailer to the left. Pull to the left the rear of the trailer goes to the right.

Guys he said use both get out aand looks backing up where there is literally a shadow that is casting the dot bumbler on that white line me personally I would use the get out and looks if I need to see the trailer from a different perspective if it’s misaligned and the 2 on the front get out and look Personally
@truckerstevecdlinstructor
@truckerstevecdlinstructor Жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. Your final get out and look should be to make sure your tractor and trailer is completely in the alley. Check the right and left side make sure the tractor steering wheels are inside the boundary lines ( in the alley). One student used his get out and look to make sure he was in the box ( back bumper). Got back into the tractor and sounded the horn for the final position. Fail the test because his left tire was on the left line.

Not sure what stop you are asking about. When I backed into the alley, the drive tires and the trailer was about to go out of bounds on the right side. I stopped and did a small pull up. If you view my other videos, most of my students are backing up until the right trailer tires are near the top cone. Now we have a blind side parallel park/ per say/ My steer tires was never an issue. Lots of videos on this test- some of them will hopefully 🤞 be of help to you.
