Trucking and Freight Market March 14: Rejections Hit 2023 Levels...Again

Freight volumes are still doing well but darn those rejection rates that crashed to 2023 levels. Diesel prices are still pretty upsetting, and the market feels completely stagnant at the moment. I am hoping that once warmer weather graces us with its presence, the freight volumes will go up, offsetting the load to truck ratios in the carrier's favor.

Broker had 47k roofing shingles flatbed OKC to Wisconsin. $1.49 per mile. They wont pay any more. I decline offer. 20 minutes later load is gone from load board 😂 some idiot booked the load. SMH Crazy!!! Then they post one going to Michigan. $1.61 per mile. Gone off load board in 10 minutes!!! Hopefully these guys taking the loads that cheap go bankrupt soon!!!

Lot of carriers are promising home time so they have to get you home for the weekend no matter the pay. That can lead to dirt cheap loads being taken

Until owner operators develop some standards instead of thinking what is the least they can run for, trucking profits will continue to decline
@Peterblack12
@Peterblack12 2 ай бұрын
Owner operators do have standards. It's not them. It's these Canadian companies taking dirt loads and mega carriers taking these "positioning" loads because they have contract freight to service. So their contract is paying 3.13 a mile for 1800 miles and the load to get them there is paying 1.49 for 620 mile. They factor in both of them it's still 2.73 ish a mile. It's stupid but when have megacarriers done anything smart

OWNER OPERATORS!!! STOP TAKING BELOW THE 15 DAY AVERAGE. You're doing what these brokers want. If YOU take cheap freight, you have to run more and in turn, that keeps capacity UP. Please know your cost per mile and if you don't, please do us all a favor and exit the industry.

if your hauling based on 15 day dat average your already hauling cheap freight...
@BigFaggTruckingLLC
@BigFaggTruckingLLC 2 ай бұрын
@@codym7960 the only way for it to go up is booking freight higher than that already cheap 15 day average. Good luck getting hundreds more above it unless it's a multi drop, specialized, or drop trailer at shipper or receiver and even then, they still try to push it for lower than the 15 day.

@@ducks1089 the unfortunate truth. All started with these idiots coming into the industry with equipment financed for twice what it was worth. Cheap freight comes from people not understanding their overhead. Most guys look at it like a company driver. The truck made 1500 bucks there, for i made 1500 bucks. They have no concept of fixed costs and what they need to operate for a mile to make their business profitable. So if your pointing at people going stop hauling cheap frieght and you dont have a spread sheet with your costs and break down you should look in the mirror.

Hi I have a question. So are Rates going lower because Brokers are paying less, or because shippers are paying less
@TruckingMadeSuccessful
@TruckingMadeSuccessful 2 ай бұрын
Its both. Shippers sometimes pay less, and sometimes shippers pay the same but due to the fact that carriers take cheap freight, brokers simply are able to pocket more. The issue is that there are too many trucks compared to loads

Hello, can you please update market into about Hazmat loads. Nobody mention them anywhere.
@Peterblack12
@Peterblack12 2 ай бұрын
I've asked her this in a comment before. I run hazmat, and it's usually 40-50 cents or so per mile more. Back in the day it was a dollar to 1.50 per mile more. But more people are running from van into hazmat. Driving down the price. Also some are going into reefer but it's more expensive to get all new equipment. Kinder Morgan and baker Hughes always pays decent. And the places near the great lakes pay good to great. So dry average 1.82 hazmat will be 2.22-2.32 on average. Near great lakes it will be about $3.

how can people drive for $1.82/mile? I don't understand. Fuel alone is almost $.50/mile so that's already $1.32/mile.. take out the company percent, trailer rental, ifta, plates, cargo insurance, bobtail insurance, tolls, truck payment, truck repairs/maintenance... What's left? You are driving for free and your putting wear and tear on your truck and a possible breakdown that costs thousands to repair. Can someone explain to me how people are driving for so cheap? I just can't comprehend it.. I've been sitting at home for 1 month now I can't afford to drive for $1.80/mile. It makes no sense.

This week will be my best flatbed week in quite awhile. 2 loads per day, nothing over 225 miles. Lucky so far with minimal deadhead running Indiana/Ohio/Michigan/Illinois. Decent rate per mile on the short runs, but as usual the diesel prices keep a decent week from being a great week. 2 loads per day for flatbed is a lot of work.
