Pete Booty just allocated $88,000,000 dollars to alternative transportation system development (autonomous projects) for the trucking industry. They also allocated an amount toward recruiting additional drivers. Two fold strategy, recruit while you need them but replace with autonomous as soon as possible. Source overdrive.

It worked (and likely still works)the same way when I was leased on at Landstar. Last few years I was there I had set loads through agents that paid well and didn’t have to be in the position of staring at and refreshing their load board. When I was in that situation it was usually towards the end of the day when last minute loads needing to be covered would pop up with good or great rates and although not as frenzied as the earlier part of the day you still had to jump on it quickly or it would be covered.

That Strategy works when you have a few trucks maybe less than 3, But its not a viable option for carriers with 5 plus trucks. There's no way you can be staring at the load board all day, that's Brutal. Got to start getting some dedicated lanes. They are hard to find but is the only way to survive long term without the extra stress.

I managed to gross $ 12500 in a week, $ 2.48 rpm average with one reefer. Only because I started Monday in California. Two other reefers, just over 10k gross, at just over $2.00 rpm, starting in the mid-west. My van, about $8000 at $1.8 rpm, starting in Chicago on Tuesday night. This week... not so much. I'm struggling, and the stress is absolutely brutal. I have never dispatched in a good market, since I'm new to this, but people keep telling me about the good old days, and I wish I could understand. Trying to keep truckers happy and moving while working with brokers is almost impossible.

Don’t take it personal with drivers complaining that what we do. And know most people prefer dom and glom and the sky is falling. Just know all markets have ups and downs and we are closer to the bottom right now than the top and in time things will get better than the good old days and then the sky will be falling all over again. So just remember “tough times don’t last but tough people do” the first time I hear that was during the Great Recession.

I spent 10 hours on a load. The broker called apologizing to me for the wait and that he'd pay for the detention. He didn't pay.
@shayanali39812 ай бұрын
I'm quite the opposite of the "wait game". I call it absolutely unnecessary to wait & I'd rather book something picking up two days later because that's what I see happening around me all the time. Good loads don't stick around even if they are picking up a few days later. What do you do with the market that opens around 7-8 am and closes within 2-3 hours? That's what I faced with the Columbus, OH market for DV. I have been booking in advance for about two years now and that's the reason hardly ever the truck stayed empty even during the weekend. Did we book profitable loads? Yes, we did. I'd suggest everyone to grab whatever there is as soon as you possibly can because this brutal spot market won't create a load for you.
