Trucking , how to replace a door lock on a Freightliner Columbia .

Good advice, but there are times that simply replacing the door lock striker will do the trick. When the door refuses to open but you pull in on it by lowering the window & pulling in by the door lock & door opens, then usually the door lock latches are worn out.

True , that’s why I showed being able to simply pull the latch open .

Thanks for posting the video. I have 2002 Columbia and a couple of days ago I had a problem with my door. Key just started spinning when I try to unlock my door so I was unable to open my driver's side door. One mechanic wants me to change all the parts of the door - door panel, inside door handle, outside door handle, door latch, door striker, lifter. And he will charge $300 for just the labor. 😪

You do not need to buy all of that !!! $300 then a bunch of money on parts you do not need ! You can just replace the key switch without replacing anything else !!

Scott you're the best. I have a 2009 Columbia, so your videos are very instructive for me. I have 2 questions for you: 1- What was the problem with your door latch to begin with? 2- I'm getting ready to replace my exterior door handles on my Columbia. I should also check the connections to my power windows because sometimes they don't work. I saw your other video on replacing the door handle where you DIDN'T remove the panel, but instead went through the side and outside. Can I just take care of everything by removing the panel? It seems it would be easier if I did. Your other video gave me the impression that it was tight and uncomfortable by NOT removing the panel. Thanks.

The door latch on the door itself had finally just wore out and stopped locking that’s why I had replaced it. As for the door handle it wore out as well later on . The reason that I did not take the door panel completely off is the on the 2007 it’s a horrible job to remove. And to put back on . The door panels easily are broken, and cost a lot of money to replace. I had replaced the passenger side panel several years ago and it was $300 from the dealership then , so most likely it’s a lot higher now . I do plan on making a few videos later on of replacing the seats , dash board skeleton, and door panels with new ones . But right not I have been filming a project upgrade that’s costing nearly $6000 , I had a budget of $4500 on the project but realized that since everything has gone up on prices this upgrade would be more costly. I’m hoping to be done with this project in a few weeks .

Right now I have had to take a break due to injuries on my arm , I can’t use my arm and I have constant severe pain . One I get Thru this I plan to make more videos.

When I close my door, it locks and I can't open it unless I go to the inside and open it. Would that be the lock or something to do with the latch?

Those sometimes comes with a new latch , otherwise just reuse your old ones .

Hi there. I have 09 columbia. Door handle inside both doors doesn't open right. Sometimes I can't even open door on passenger side. And had to pull hard to open on driver side. But outside of door handle open all good. What could that be problem?

In your case I would look at the door handle and the cradle it sets in .once these break it does what your describing. Now the Freightliner century I own , when the cradle fractured on it I had to buy a whole new door panel which was $300 at the dealership just for the panel , $15 for a new handle . And I had to install it . Now on a cheaper note , it’s possible that you have a loose linkage from the tabs being wore out those are cheap . These are sorta like tie rods at the end of your linkage . But these clip into place and holds everything together. As seen in my video on my door .

Could be the alignment of the door pin , and the shims on the pin itself , if you replaced the latch .

Test your door latch with a bolt like I did , if it opens then it’s time for a new latch. If the door pin has any grooves wore in it then I would replace it too !
