We always take I-8, then US-85 (bypass) through Gila Bend to bypass the Phoenix mess.

Hey guys I've been driving a truck in Phoenix for over 20 years. Any vehicle can turn right on red as long as there's no sign stating you can't. No separate law for trucks exists. Many of the driving schools out here discouraged drivers from turning on red, but it's not illegal. Also, there's local jurisdictions attempting to ban right on red for all vehicles, but the state legislature passed laws preventing cities from doing so. Finally, there's unique laws when driving around Arizona State's Deaf Academy. No right on red in that area.

Nice familiar ride today. when we come from Tucson heading for Quartzsite, we always take this short cut. We also take this route when visiting relatives in Surprise even though we have to backtrack a couple of miles to get on the 303 going north.

Ax truck driver here, (and you can even google this if you dont believe me) you can 100% turn right on red unless there is a posted sign saying not to. Ive aslo turned right on red multiple times with a cop in sight of me. Dont spread misinformation man. Even teachers at a school are capable of bs’ing you. Alot safer to not turn on red, but also not illegal.

Actually met a person that was from Gila Bend, Az. Their population is less than 2,000 people. When I was stationed at Davis-Monthan AFB we would have to go to Gila Bend to recover our A-10's if they had a problem.

I am so jealous of you both being on that I-20/I-10 route. I love those AZ trips. Haven't been on one in a while and this company I'm driving for now, doesn't seem to like Dispatching us there. Stay safe
