I'm in NY 2 to 3 times a week all the boroughs and Long Island for certain. The key is to get in and get out. Anytime before 4am u good unless construction or accident. Stay off parkways and don't miss your turns. Good video

Dude no joke this video was legit. I'm not in the business YET but I always here shit about people going through NYC and something always going wrong or straight out refusing a load even going near there. This video was a huge help knowing it ain't that bad as long as you focus and don't let traffic intimidate you. Long time viewer bro. love the videos.

Why can't NY mark the underpass heights correctly? With a 13.6 tall truck, they mark the height at 12.6. but it is more like 14.0. It will make your heart beat a lot faster as you pass under. The Highways are fine, but the surface streets suck in a truck. Parkways are off limits to all trucks. Never take a parkway. Bathrooms are harder to find in NY than unicorns. The best view of NY is in the rear view mirror.
@Macetoface_4 жыл бұрын
They mark bridges a foot or so shorter incase snow or ice builds up high. So a 15.6 bridge is really 16.6. This way if its snowing or really icey you will still fit

"Speak from the hip" as in "fire from the hip". I'm a fan, man fr! This is as far as I got in the videos tho so I hope all is well. I'm a guy who made the decision to drive a truck *today!* because I'm single and I wanna REALLY challenge myself (I already know how to bake) aaaand COVID gave me, umm, a clean slate in the job department lol. Not like I was doing great before, but I digress... So I'm watching KZbin videos about trucking and then stg my cousin who's a cop and can fking do anything is like "hey let's drive truck. I'm like "you son of a bitch! I'm in." I can do anything I set my mind to through God so now I'm watching your videos, absorbing as much information as possible. This one really helps because it shows it can be done so I can do it! Thanks alot!

Really wish I found this channel before I started driving. Was watching mainly instructional videos, but this is real. I went into NYC first time with my team driver trainer. I had been in Chicago and Kansas City prior to that with my CDL exam trainer, but NYC is a different beast. You have the perfect attitude for driving and I watched the whole video even though I have been to NYC several times on basically the same route. My team driver trainer was a lot like the rushed driver you talk about. She would constantly tell me to "keep speed" and "go along with traffic" even though our exit would be coming up (I dont think she realized it). I was going literally the exact speed limit, but cars were speeding past of course. She was always worried about "speed" lol. I changed trainers when she basically had a panic attack because a cop was standing on the side steps of a pulled over truck and she was worried she was going to clip the cop with her mirror. The truck was well off the road though. It was just an awful situation seeing someone sobbing like that, let alone my trainer. I felt bad (she definitely had issues), but I couldn't team drive with someone like that. There were other odd incidents as well. Thankfully my CDL exam trainer and 2nd team trainer had your and my attitude of I'll do my thing and let everyone else do theirs. I am never late to anything, load doesn't shift, I am far less stressed. Good to know there are other good drivers out there. Stay safe.

Good video but not for nothing this was shot essentially driving around NYC. Have you had to make any drops IN the city? It's a totally different ball game even from this. Like blind side docking into a dark indoor warehouse from a narrow one way street with cars, parking meters, signs and fire hydrants lined up every square inch while a 100 cabbies with angry passengers with meters running blaring their horn and trying to drive around you every chance they get. Not to mention those "homeless" pedestrians purposely walking behind the truck trying to get hit so they can sue the big truck company. It's a nightmare.

Been watching trucking videos for about 2 weeks just to get a hint of how the job is plus maneuvering with traffic etc, plus brings back memories traveling with my dad on his trucking route. being in the city can be frustrating enough but if you could drive a semi truck there you could go anywhere. They don’t call NY the jungle for no reason.

Oh snap, I've been watching your videos for the past few days, because I'm thinking of buying my own rig and going under my own authority. This video though just made me nostalgic. When i was driving OTR I've been routed to NYC about 2 dozen times because I live there. I honestly don't mind it. Honestly I think NJ is much worse lol. Stops at Hunts Point, Fordham Center, exiting to the Throggs Neck Bridge, or taking the 95N towards Connecticut, I miss being on the BX Expressway. These days I'm a dedicated Amazon driver for JB Hunt, regional, and I never go into NYC unless I'm heading home in my personal vehicle. Great advice here, I agree 100%, especially with staying in the middle lane, though I did get screwed one time on the Bronx expressway doing that. Traffic piled up by my exit to the Throggs Neck Bridge and I couldn't merge over, so I had to circle around the entire Bronx to get over to that exit. Cost me an extra 50 minutes, I was late by 15 minutes, still wouldn't change anything I did because being slow and patient is the best way to get around NYC in a rig.

We're a lot smaller, and amateurs to boot. I drive a Chevy Duramax, 4Dr dually, and we pull a 44' fifth wheel with it. But, we drive exactly the way you suggest. My wife keeps track of maps, the GPS, turns, lanes, etc. I just watch my mirrors, cameras, and try to go with the flow. If I'm in the right lanes, and traffic grinds to a halt, we just sit and wait. We're retired, and clocks mean nothing to us. Been at it for over twenty years w/o an accident that was my fault. Worst city experiences; Harrisburg, Pa, Buffalo, NY, (missed a turn and wound up on a few side streets.) Fayetteville, NC, some of those streets were laid out by drunkards. Many more, but they come to mind. Nice video.

I agree with you about cruising in the middle lane. It almost always flows the best compared to the right-most lane. In my state, the driver's handbook actually recommends using the middle lane as a cruising lane. But then there are a lot of ignorant people who don't understand the laws that think that keep right laws means the right-most lane and it isn't. Slower traffic can use ANY lane that is to the right of the left-most lane. In other words, only the left-most lane can be considered a "passing lane". The middle lane is fair game. In fact, the keep right laws don't always apply within city limits anyway, depending on the type of expressway or freeway it is.
