i mean, it is basically how most space games are. space trucking. that's entirely how real interstellar space travel will be once humans get there too. just mining a bunch of planets and shipping stuff back and forth to keep it going. unlikely we'll have the capacity to reach livable planets so tourism won't ever get to be much of a big thing. more like people just a few hyper rich people hitching rides on cargo transit.

The Drive Assist button on the dash is what has the truck stop if there's no forward momentum pushed. It's kinda like an internal dampener in Star Trek, for why if they stop in space when the engines don't work.

this game could be even more awesome. truck rescue dlc: you are able to buy a run down property and an old rescue truck. you can repair trucks that are in trouble and tow them to the next spacestation if the repair is more serious. you have to mount a maglock attacher to the truck to be able to tow it with the maglock of your truck. space station construction dlc: you are installing pushfields to spacestations to keep them clear of space debris and asteroids. you transport and attach new compartements and docking stations with space cranes to existing spacestations. you repair asteroids damage and keep the stations running. truck design dlc: you are now able to create designs for your own truck with a livery creator. there are also slots on existing parts to further modify them(shields, plating etc for front bumpers and grilles). beacon lights for roof etc. your own company dlc: designing your own trailers and loads. a little sidebusiness where you are able to generate some side income to keep the cash flowing. you can hire truckers which you can give some transports and get a liitle fee for bringing the work towards the truckers.

I already do space trucking in Elite Dangerous. Better flying, less fiddly stuff in the cabin....no debris, but there are pirates. This looks ... like it could be stressful in different ways.

I kind of feel like the main gameplay loop is a lot like that of the original elite, just with a good bit of American truck SIM mixed in for the styling side of things. Pick up cargo from one space station, fly out a little way, hyperspace, fly to other Space Station, drop it off, and customise your ship if you like. It's just the customisation and repairs are more internal for the most part rather than external things

I absolutely love this game The best experience I've had in this game is Custom difficulty with everything normal except power usage and stuff, set all that to low and you'll have a really chill space trucking experience with the occasional thing to maintain but it's not overbearing.

There is one thing that is somewhat logical about using trucks to tug loads around through space, using a tug that can drag or push a standardized cargo container, similar to the ones we already have and manufacture in the millions for transcontinental hauling and intercontinental shipping aka shipping containers, is far more efficient than having to crawl inside a small area and move in and out packages that are small enough to squeeze inside the logistical disaster that is Starship. Since only the orbital/interplanetary tug itself is unique, it only has to latch on to standardized rectangular cargo containers or trussed pressurized gas or fluid tanks and then haul that and several more for a long haul to the destination, either by warp gate (which we don't and will probably never have), warp drive (the Alcubierre is about the only possible design but is basically impossible) or ion engines (the actual realistic option) powered by fusion reactor (or fission until we figure out how to fusion properly). So the silly and fantastical element is the off-center thrust and the whole classical American Peterbilt design of the space trucks, but otherwise its not actually that bad in terms of logistics. Also, its funny how the repairs and frequent asteroid damage is unrealistic, by the time we figure out orbital and interplanetary tugs for a mass transport network similar to the trucking and shipping and train industries, we'll likely have something akin to Mass Effect's kinetic shielding, although probably an electromagnetic barrier that repels the vaguely ferromagnetic space debris, meaning its just burning fuel gathered from stratospheric cloud cities on the gas giants of our solar system. BTW, the main reason why in real life using something like the Star-Raker would be more efficient in the long run than Starship is because Star-Raker would've been able to take off from a large runway and land at another large runway, but the most important bit would've been how it could plug in to the existing military logistics system, getting payloads rolled into the plane and then taxiing to the runway for takeoff rather than a complex elevator tower system that would have to be invented wholesale and go up and down and up and down slowly each time to load in small nonstandard packages and anchor them one by one inside Starship taking far more than 50 times longer at least and far more expensive besides on all fronts of the process.

I'll probably get this game soon, as I enjoyed the demo. Though one little quality of life update I would like is to be able to set things down gently instead of just dropping them. Maybe if you're close enough to a flat surface the button prompt will say "set down" or there could be a separate button for that. It seems strange that you have to carry around a big box just to avoid damaging your batteries and stuff.

I gave this a try. I really enjoy ETS2 and ATS quite a bit, but I really don’t think this game is for me. I feel like most of the time in this game is spent fiddling with batteries and filters and such. The only real driving you do is around stations in between jumps. I miss the open road (or in this case, space) from ETS2 and ATS.

The truck has a stability assist button which stops your momentum. But if you turn that off it will act like you're actually in space.

Once you overcome the inertia, it's easy going until you arrive.

I am playing this on the custom difficulty and keep dying but getting further and further and little tip do the jobs that are near by that are quick to make money and make sure you keep as many batteries filters and ucc as possible so you can do the longer runs

The careless driving is because you went off the marked out routes in the sector when yoy was doing the job and even if you dont hit anything it still says it and i have had a few times where i have stopped my space truck because i have a hull breach and as i am repairing it an NPC truck has hit me and i then recived a fine for the npc hitting me
