So difficult compared to a 60 series Detroit or any other pre tier 4 engine. I still cant figure out what is better about this location on the bell housing opposed to the accessory drive. Thanks I enjoyed watching. This one sucks to change worse than the Sterlings with a Mercedes engine. I love how the engineers turned an hour, hour and a half compressor change Into a days labor rate earnings.

look we redesigned the air compressor so you dont need that special curved wrench to remove/install it. but we jammed it under the cab, behind the p/s pump, with the frame right in the way. hope you dont mind. 😒

I've found that hooking those 2 coolant lines up is easier if you pull the fuel lines from the fuel filter housing. Only drips a little fuel but gives you more room.

I have a P&H omega 18 crane with the Detroit Deisel 353 engine. The air compressor won’t build past 30 pounds. The compressor is a Bendix tu flo 500 which was just purchased rebuilt. I also put a new governor on it and still nothing. I hooked a pressure gauge straight to the discharge line and only got 30 PSI. I’m new to this so any help would be appreciated. Also I don’t think it has an alcohol evaporator or an air dryer. Thanks in advance.

@Mister Barak it’s in that spot because on the DD13 with the short hood there isn’t space for it in the front. Instead of having different designs they used the same parts on the DD15 so that’s why it’s stupid like this.

European garbage! The REAL Detroit as we knew as a legend over here in North America died with the Series 60. Now it's all rebranded Mercedes junk. Ridiculously hard to work on & parts are outrageous! Save your old FLD120s, W900s & 359/379s as long as you can. You couldn't pay me enough to own one. The engineering reason for using rear drive is more accurate cam timing, it reduces deflection the camshaft sees due to torsional twist while running. Seriously? They think these are race car engines turning 9000 rpm? May see 2600 rpm at most. Galactically stupid! Good video & thanks. I'll be doing one on a DD8 M2-106 soon. Not looking forward to it.
