HGV Trucking, Camera Mirrors Good or Bad?

Yes I have driven a XG 530 with these mirrors And I heard all the story’s before hard to get use to I got use to it straight away and blind side is not my strong point as been driving a year and a half but you can adjust left big screen right out as your going back blind side and can see everything instead of using small screen Only bad thing I heard and not experienced yet is drop of rain on lenses And remember if you knock them on a tree you have to stop to press button to fold them out And if screen goes pink pull over when you can switch off for a few minutes and they will reset Overall brilliant mirrors

Some Mercs have them here in Oz but I've never had the experience. Just walked back in our house this afternoon after a 21 hour flight from Gatwick to Singapore and then on to Perth. I've visited more English pubs over the last 4 weeks than I probably did when I lived there.

​@@truckitprayleplenty of good pubs in Australia and even old English style pubs in many of the cities. You generally won't find traditional hand pumped ales as most customers want cold lagers.

​@@truckitprayleI could give you loads of tips before you move down under but one comes to mind straight away. Get yourself a new pair of your favourite safety boots (maybe 2 pairs) before you leave because they're so much cheaper in the UK compared to Australia. As usual, I just got a new pair on eBay UK and stuck them in my case last week. Seriously, I even brought back a 3 piece Toyota clutch kit in my suitcase in 2019.

Congratulations on getting wed mate. And all the best for Aus. I drove an Actros with the mirror cams, top spec truck, and loved it. I do agree with the critsism of headlight glare at night but it's not that bad. But then the headlight glare is only like having slated up mirrors in winter lol. Just as you're chasing the dream so am I, there's a chance I could go permanent at my favourite contract and my own truck.... Not set in stone but hey I grafted hard for the chance. Let us know how you get on down in Aus.

I'm currently doing my HGV lessons in one of these... I Should have done my test on 27 Aug but it's been put back to 10 Sept (DVSA Examiner became unavailable). I really like it, the only problem I'm finding is that because the driver's mirror/screen is right Infront of you, my instructor can't tell that I'm checking it, so I need to keep remembering to nod my head when I check, even though I don't need to... Will have to do an impression of a nodding dog on my test 😅

The reason why U struggle with them All u need to do is change the settings in the main menu so u not looking at 4 screens to just the one screen in normal mode you looking at to many objects in the digital mirror so u distracted.....I do like the bit u can see behind the truck that helps a lot

I like the look of the new Daf, but not the mirror cams. Had a day in a Mercedes a few years ago with mirror cams on UPS with a wagon and drag, did not like reversing as couldn't really tell the distant of things behind me unlike normal mirrors. I guess you will get used to them. I saw a 7.5ton Man recently with mirror cams, couldn't see the point of that myself.
