Also field tested it on 24 miles of off roading in the Cleveland National Forest. This truck is amazingly comfortable and confident and the Torsen front diff with the rear locker and drive modes makes a real serious difference between it and my last FX4 Platinum that I had on 35's. My only little gripe is that the small bump compliance wasn't as soft as I was expecting but I was still able to drive it 15 mph faster than my old truck when off roading. Great video. The ramp and specs are a great addition. Really surprised in the lack of tow hooks on the Toyota.
@trailrunnah88862 жыл бұрын
Yeah, that is an epic fail in my opinion. Though, it is kind of a Toyota thing. Even the 4Runner models, including the TRD Pro, don't really have good recovery hooks. They have loops that are located up under the front bumper on the radiator support, they're definitely not as beefy as something that you would find on a Jeep or like the ones on this Tremor. In my owner's manual, Toyota says that these are not recovery points, they are tie-down points. I bought some aftermarket front recovery points that are beefy and bolt to four different spots on the frame.

@@trailrunnah8886 There is a reason Toyota does that; you can of course put tow hooks on however putting a tow hook on and you have a modified truck? Toyota doesn't get their 2% better reliability rating by accident...What person in their right mind takes any truck without tow hooks on terrain where a wrongly placed wheel gets you stuck? On the water with the tundra he didn’t took the same line as with the tremor at the beginning, definitely that’s the reason he didn’t climbed up at first try

I went back and watch the video and he did take the same line. The Tundra slipped to the right more as he was trying to climb. Remember they said the Ford was switching to find the rather the lockers was needed or not. Don't think the Tundra is able to do this.

Great comparison and video. I would say that although it's basically a draw, I do think the Tundra having to go second does put it at a slight disadvantage because the Ford messes up the ruts even more and makes the terrain ever so slightly worse for the Tundra. Just my perspective.

He finally did on the last pass of the Tundra, but then it seemed like they came back on when he got to the end. Sure hope they don't reset once you turn them off. I can't imagine trail driving with that noise constantly coming back on every time you go into park or change gears. Likely they reset every time the ignition is turned off, which is bad enough.

Great video guys! Showing the specs side by side and the underside of the trucks is awesome and slightly unique. I agree that for most applications the Tremor is a bit better. As far as tires go they can easily be swapped out.
@PeakDecline2 жыл бұрын
Tires are only easy swapped to a point. Sure you could fit slightly larger tires on the TRD Pro but then you're throwing off your speedometer, you're taking out some of the acceleration and you're potentially going to rub off-road. It's not like you can just throw on 35s without a chain reaction of drawbacks.

I bought aa used 2017 Titan 4x4 last year for $33K with 39k miles and had sticker shock as it was a base model S trim. Didnt have a backup cam, no power mirrors and vinyl flooring.. As I sit here a year later I am glad I still have a v8, not start stop, no sensors and extra crap.. the dealer did include a backup camera and had it installed to the stock display. Seems like auto start stop is hard to avoid lately and I wonder if v8 trucks are gona be phased out eventually. I was sad to see the titan is leaving the US market in a year or so but I love mine. I was initially looking for f150 or Ram but for the same price they were 2wd, more miles and in most cases has the naturally aspirated 3.3 v6 in Ford and 3.6 in ram which i was fine with but they were still stock vehicles also or maybe a trim level up. The titan kinda fell in my lap and i love it..
@poppyneese18112 жыл бұрын
I was never a fan of the Titan, first the design and secondly it’s a Nissan, but I’ve got to say every single person I’ve talked to that has one absolutely love theirs, not a single negative comment, so I think it’s a awesome truck that Nissan had no ideal how to market it, was a big fan of the warrior concept vehicle, but honestly I’d have gotten a more basic package too cause it’s more affordable, my F150 STX is next to the bottom of Fords lineup and it’s been great. Hearing rumors the Titan will be gone soon and that’s sad for their faithful owners.

The Ford all the way. The parking sensors alone on that Toyota is reason enough not to buy it but the Tremor clearly outmatched the Toyo.
@adamharriger51932 жыл бұрын
When you factor in how much more usability the Tremor has with it’s substantial payload superiority this is a no brainer (1600-1800lbs is common on a Tremor and not possible at all on a TRD Pro). Its just crazy that Toyota had so long to develop the new Tundra and even saw the new Ford, GM and Ram trucks before releasing theirs, yet still didnt keep up. Then to top it off they made the truck less usable due to the asinine rear bumper that makes it difficult to get in the bed, and handicapped even their most offroad version with no tow hooks. I own a 2021 Tremor, its a beast offroad and still has 1699lbs of payload capacity that allows me to haul my travel trailer with ease. I don’t think there is a better all around capable truck currently on the market.
@raionshishi82902 жыл бұрын
There really isn't much to compete against it, honestly i don't know how Ford managed to make this truck the way it is, it's insanely good in many applications, looks stunningly good and badass for a truck, and has an incredible track record so far in every comparison.
@kenmasteren2 жыл бұрын
You're forgetting the most important fact, tundra stay out of the shop and on the road twice as long as Fords.
@adamharriger51932 жыл бұрын
@@kenmasteren That simply hasn’t been the case with the new Tundra…. I get the long term brand reputation, but this is an all new platform and it certainly hasn’t started out well for Toyota. For me the most important part is what I can actually use the truck for- unfortunately the low payload rating of the TRD Pro makes it useless for actual truck work- particularly towing. Thats normally the case for an offroad biased truck, but the Tremor defies that norm and clearly isn’t giving up much if anything to the TRD Pro in the offroad department. It’s pretty incredible that Ford can make the truck ride and handle so well offroad but somehow maintain payload that rivals other brands’ best numbers for a minimally equipped model. 17k hard miles so far in 8 months (over 6000 of which are towing)on my Tremor without a single hiccup, squeak, rattle or mechanical issue of any kind.
@andyham60942 жыл бұрын
@@adamharriger5193 lol bro 17,000 ain’t even broken in yet. Nothing to brag about having no issues after 17k. My 4runner has 200,000 miles on it with zero problems and barely any squeaks or any other minor or major issue. Ton of those miles have been off road and long overlanding trips up and down and across the country and back more times then I can count. But hopefully your truck can stand the rest of time with no problems! I personally like the tremor but I love the trd pro tundra as well but I prefer the previous gen tundra trd pro the best still for half ton pickups.
@adamharriger51932 жыл бұрын
@@andyham6094 I agree 17k miles isnt much overall, but in 8 months with nearly half of it towing 7k lbs it’s way more of a “long term” review than most auto journalists ever do. Many of which have had issues with their new Tundras. I know Toyota overall has a killer reputation for reliability, but it’s just too soon to tell with the new Tundra- and I bet Toyota isnt happy about the way it has started out. My real issue with the new Tundra is that Toyota had so much time to develop the new truck and should have at least caught up to their competition. I do love 4 runners though- if I didnt need a truck it would be on my shortlist.
