I had the DCR conversion about 4 months ago @ 80K miles to my 2019 F-350 4 WD Crew cab, stock. I am almost always carrying a truck camper with a tow. I wasn't having any problems, but always being so far from home I didn't want to risk the breakdown. Just returned from a trip to the mountains from the east coast without any issues.I don't have any plans for a new truck, this is it. Gotta make it last. I've been watching ARod for some time now, he rocks!

22 years of ownership almost now with my ‘02 GMC 2500 LB-7 powered rig . Two sets of injectors replaced ( first set under GM extended warranty) and second set finally just under 3 years ago , my cost this time . I added an AirDog lift pump at the Replacement after I got truck back from shop as they did it in a day & a half & I got 3 years warranty on all . Two water pump replacements ( both done by me & yeah they suck to do ) in almost 200,000 miles & truck still runs like new . Of course I did 4” exhaust & air intake mods along with other personal upgrades such as Gauges ( old school pillar Mount boost & Pyrometer ) and an Edge Monitor for all other parameters I’ve set up has given me many years & miles of enjoyment. Still gets 19-21 mpg out on open highways when driven with light right foot & can haul ass when needed & runs up to 30 psi boost on demand with still STONE STOCK original turbo still chugging along . ( how , I’m not sure , but I keep my fingers crossed 🤞). Anyway I enjoyed your never ending involvement here Josh helping your buddy out in usual fashion . Good luck in future with ALL you do & share Buddy . Keep trucking on … 😎👍

Ive owned the same truck since new except mine is a chevy. Injectors replaced under warranty as well. Nothing except batteries and other maintenence items since. Its literally been the most reliable truck ive ever owned. I had a 2007 classic LBZ I traded for a 2011 Duramax. It was great too, The 2011 not so much. I traded the 2011 for a 2019 King Ranch 6.7 and it had tons of power but wasnt realiable even after it was deleted. I sold it. MY old 1996 7.3 has been great.

@@justinpaone2227 LB7’s had problematic injectors from new in a lot of cases when they 1st hit the market. Mine were replaced at 15k. Now it has over 300k on the same injectors.
@stephenmiller5023
@stephenmiller5023 6 ай бұрын
@@justinpaone2227 The original injectors were very problematic on these early LB-7’s unfortunately. The first set as I stated were completely covered under extended warranty by G.M. That set lasted almost 100,000 miles under some serious harsh towing condition & using only the factory fuel filter & original CP-3 pump that on these trucks does double duty both sucking fuel from tank ( uphill so to speak ) & then pressurizing it upwards of 23,000 psi at injection time . After these went south and I had to foot the bill I added an Airdog Lift pump along with its filters to hopefully last quite a bit longer this go-around . I am to blame for not draining water apparently from factory filter after a long trip to San Francisco & back a few years ago & probably sucked up some crappy fuel at a truck stop along the way , then later hit extremely hot weather conditions ( over 117 degrees ) out in Mojave desert rescuing a stranded friend in my truck & shortly afterwards it stated dropping injectors like flies ….. Duramaxes run like crap on only 4-5 cylinders . I barely made it home & vowed to NEVER Let that happen again . Live & learn as they say … 😎👍

@DieselRanchYT Thats awesome to hear man. Glad that the truck is doing its job. My buddy has a 13 6.7 and I love it and it's super reliable. All the riff raff is just that they all have flaws but also they each bring something unique to the table at the end of the day. As long as the truck gets ya to point A to point B safely and reliably that's a good truck in my book. I own a 11 LML just hit 200K on the odometer CP3 and lift pump are what I'm saving for so far she's been reliable and kept me safe. So i agree the YT hype isn't always as major as it seems. I’ve owned my last 6.7. We use all ours in logging, F350’s to F550’s. I was told this engine was the best of the best, but what I’ve found is the most expensive of them all. I’ve had to replace everything from cracked cylinder heads to Def tank assembly’s. Got to do a CP4 pump on my personal F350 now. My 6.0’s broke occasionally sure, but nothing like these 6.7’s in cost.

the minimum you can do to keeping your base cp4 healthy: 1- dont run it low on fuel, especially when running heavy/hard 2- no water/def/gas/crappy diesel 3- use hot shots or equivalent ideally: 4-aftermarket (airdog) lift pump with a pressure gauge you can monitor. (ground this nearby, not on battery) filters changed regurlarly 5-fuel filter conversion kit under the hood, changed regularly 6-low and high side pressures watched/monitored as a part of your driving routine. low is just a psi#, in my case 65. the high side you'll want a graphed display. if you are used to getting 0087's when you get on it a little bit, and all of a sudden you get a 0087 when you aren't getting on it, park it ASAP and do the CP4. you can't tell they're imminent with a scanner, but you can tell they are on their way out by watching some of the parameters that should stay stable, but don't (fuel volume control valve related i believe) you can replace the fuel pump and leave all the injectors in place, just replacing one of the metal lines that feeds it. my biz owns 3 6.7s and i have had the milky way in the frame filter bowl, change after change, and had the trucks keep going. one time i was on the road and found out that my debit cards didn't work, so i drove to near E after getting to a bank. i filled up at a truck stop and about 5 miles later, ding ding ding ding ding going down the expressway. blew right through the filter/screen/whatever on the SPE bypass kit, and waterfalled diesel down the front of the motor. it's a job that'll put hair on your chest, especially if you haven't made any room in there. if you have a sticky injector that's causing fuel dumps, that'll starve your CP4 more than anything else. the other source of starvation would be filters past due. besides obvious sources of problems like corrosion, hot, aerated fuel will accelerate microscopic wear. more serious cavitation leads to large, thin shavings.

I would be curious to see you tear down the old CP4 and inspect the pumping element for any obvious problems. The tolerance is so close in the pumping element though it wouldn’t take much to not build or loose pressure under high load volume. Most of the CP4 fails I have seen are in the lower end where the roller rides on the cam excentric and turns causing failure when it sends metal through out the entire fuel system. Such a poor design by Bosch! So glad I did the S&S CP4 to CP3 conversion on my LML!

@@DieselRanchYT it will make a great documentation video exposing the guts and pumping element of the CP4, and what fails on the bottom end. I took my old pump apart, knowing I would never use it again or torture someone giving it to them to reuse. I just can’t believe that Bosch would not have designed a specific guide in the bore that the roller assembly rides on to keep it from turning. it would be like running roller lifters on a gasser, and not linking two lifters together to keep them from turning on the camshaft lobe. That crap design should’ve triggered a massive recall IMO!

@TruckMaster @DieselRanchYT The DCR pump conversion is definitely an upgrade and there is a lot of reasons to favor doing this conversion but I wouldn’t go as far as saying every CP4 equipped truck (Ford, Dodge, or GM) is a ticking time bomb and there is basic remedies to prevent this from happening. I do think it is worth noting for this video that Ford updated the CP4 starting in the 15 model year to the CP4.2 which is more tolerant to low quality fuel and debris with a slight bump in output. This also partially explains the issue Nick is having with his 2011 Ford. I don’t think there is anything “wrong” with Nick’s CP4 so much as it is being overworked for the larger non-VGT turbo that is on the truck and it is unreasonable to do a major modification (air) without completing the supporting mods (fuel). As far as the blow by issue it is very easy to point at the blue oval but with it being a rebuilt/new/different engine and having no knowledge of the quality of work that was done. This could be caused by countless variables involved in replacing an engine and likely isn’t a engine design issue caused by the manufacturer. I am only interested in providing the most correct information to my knowledge and not here to bash anyones personal preferences. All the truck in the last 20 years are very good, but they all have there specific issues too.

I have a 2014 6.7 Powerstroke that I’m currently replacing the engine. Bought it used 9 months ago after black ice totaled my built 6.4. Unfortunately for me on this engine some jackwad who didn’t know anything about a torque wrench messed with the rockers and didn’t torque them down. So I’m doing the DCR conversion because I figured with the new long block from Ford (yes I got one already found it locally stashed on a shelf) just fix it right the first time. I’m excited to see how much better the truck will run with the updated internals and updated fuel system.

But I’ll have a new 19 engine, new DCR, new Ford reman injectors, new KC warlock retrofit. I figured do it once and go. But I remember a video you guys did where you talked about having deep pockets with a diesel and here’s why. My original engine was only running on 19 of 32 valves cause some jackwad worked on the engine prior to my ownership.

Drivers side rail has the pressure control valve. Likely where the pressure was dropping. Sometimes when just replacing just the PCV, the bypass will continue due to the cutting or fit of the PCV to the rail. That is why you should replace the entire rail as it comes with that PCV and the FRP sensor. If the pump was failed, you would have no pressure. Engine would not run.

That blow-by is common right from the factory the amount of heat generated in #7 and #8 and during regen meant that the ring gap had to be so wide it would be like pouring fuel state in the crankcase. It was common to hear that the Crankcase level would grow from 5k services 3+ quarts that is a lot fuel a lot of engine wash. I deleted mine right at the end of the warranty. My 08 6.4 SD is just coming up on 150K miles this is Feb 2024. I have a leaked rear main replaced at 62K but that blow-by is routed through a large bus type of Catch Can I refuse to let that gunk return to my compression chamber or gum up my intake? I got a small build-up on my aftermarket cold air intake housing it started to eat into the composite like gas and a styrofoam coffee cup. For real that can't be good for seals and O-rings. This weekend I will be thorough cleaning of my intercooler. Any help on that would be appreciated. Should I use mineral spirits, alcohol, break clean all the above? Really this gunk is bad and doesn't belong in or near any internal parts. I can only imagine what it is doing to the interior of my engine. It is like an acid

@CowboyNation1977
@CowboyNation1977 28 күн бұрын
That only replaces the pump. If you only replace the pump a couple of weeks later, that new pump will be trash as well. The reason it's so expensive is because all the metal shavings that are microns in diameter plug up the fuel injectors as well. So you then have to replace injectors. Then, even after you change injectors, you still have a major issue with the rest of the fuel system contaminated. So, to keep the new pump and injectors from becoming junk 3 weeks after you install them, you end up needing all new filters, common rails, steel lines, and fuel tank. The contamination spreads because in case you didn't know, any fuel that isn't used by the injectors in a diesel or any common rail engine is sent back to the fuel tank to keep cycling it through, and because the CP4 is designed to self lubricate with the fuel itself. the only way to ensure you won't have any more problems is buy new injectors, lines, rails, tank, filters, and a pump, which gets expensive quickly. The cheapest full rebuild of the fuel system I have seen personally (cause it was mine) (2013 F250 KR) was quoted to me at over $12,000 installed. At the time, I could buy a complete brand new Ford crate motor for around $15,000 installed. So since the engine I had in there was close to 200k miles already, I just bought a brand complete engine and had the transmission freshened up while they were at it as well.

May be a lubrication issue. Modern fuel in an attempt to be green and clean has reduced the ability to properly lube the pump. Perhaps adding lube the fuel like we did in the old days could help. I drove big trucks prior to the non-sulpher fuel mandates pump failure was rare. I had an old Mercedes 300D 5 cylinder diesel that the manual recommended adding a quart of 30W every few tanks to lube and quiet the pump. Anyhow, it might be worth looking into.

In the manual you show, the pump gear has 2 marks and the cam gear has 1. When you show it lined up theres 2 marks on the cam gear. Isnt it 180 out?

It looks like you were 180* out on cam to pump timing when installing the DCR pump if you installed it with the marks in your video. It appears you put the double mark to double mark, it should be cam gear single mark to HPFP gear double mark. My guess is the CP4 pump you removed might have been improperly timed when the rebuilt engine was installed if you couldn't get the single to double marks lined up... Does it matter that much? I'd ask S&S but I'll say Not a whole lot... Especially when considering S&S didn't time their pumps early on in the DCR's release... But what it does is time the pumping pressure spikes from either the CP4 or DCR with the opening of the injectors. This means you'll have higher pressure at the injector during it's open time and thus more flow through the same injector at the same PW, or injector on time. Secondly it reduces NVH because the pump is pushing through an open injector instead of a closed one. Did you guys look at the metering valve on the CP4 you removed? I'm very curious to know if there was any metal in that area!

2011 is by far the most problematic of the 6.7’s. 15-16 is ideal. Every truck I see with cp4 problems is either a northern rust belt truck, and/or has a transfer/drag tank. The cp4 is very reliable. I have 501K miles on mine (2012 6.7). The cp4 is not DURABLE. You run water, sediment, anything besides clean diesel, it’s going to ruin it. Transfer tanks are the number 1 red flag, they heat and cool constantly and exchange air, which leads to condensation. Northern diesel is also more prone to freeze/thaw cycles that likely leads to condensation. You paid way too much for a hulled out 2011, that’s a $16K truck at best (with a working fuel system)

To anyone that lives in Georgia, what are the emission laws like? Can you legally delete your truck. I did some reading and saw there is inspections upon registration so I’d assume not but that’s why I’m asking

Diesel are emmissions exempt in all of ga. We do not do vehicle inspections. If you move to ga and bring your out is state diesel they will probably check to make sure ur vin matches ur paper work but as far inspections ga doesn’t do it.

I heard the stock manifolds are fine until you start the mods to make HP. My lbz is stock I would love to see egts gauge before and after ppe manifolds pulling the same weight,hill and outside temp. I pull the same hill,same weight and temp with the deep Alison trans pan… got to the same temp under 212- 213 but took about 20 miles longer to cool down so I took it off.
