Wonderful to see proper manual trucks, see how fast they react and move, unlike the nanny state autos that have become mainstream!

I’m entering the industry myself in about a years time - would you be able to elaborate on this? For example if I’ve taken my 45 and I’m back on the road and I need to take a leak or have a cuppa, they won’t even let you take a 5 minute stop..?

I think it must be the TK Fridges rumbling on those Scania reefers rather than the truck's engines.

@gregmorgan53322 жыл бұрын
Don’t all get to nostalgic there was plenty of bad drivers back then as well as now look at 7.15 guy trying to reverse in to a bay why could the magnum not give him 5 seconds of space then we have the scania coming in at 10.42 right up the arse of the truck in front. Every one of those trucks was speeding in and out of that service station and every one of them would be the first to complain when there truck got hit or run over in the truck park. The Irish lads were always known for being flyers but there was always plenty upside down in a ditch to . Sunday nites in Germany was always renowned set of after curfew and an hour later you pass by something upside down most likely something to do with the bar in the truck stop at dinner time then tea time . They was good times and with some good trucks but not every one got to drive 143s and f16s most were in fl10s and p cabs or even worse some thing British

@gregmorgan5332 Spot on there, mate! That was the time I was driving a 4x2 F10 that was already many years old and well past its best before date but even that was a class act compared to the day-cabbed SedAk that I travelled the UK in and, in the early '80s, used to take over to NI every week, sleeping across the seats. It had power steering but that was about all. I started in the mid '70s and, tell you what, I'd still do it all over again! Been retired years and still miss it!

I was 3 years old, i would imagine this took ages to open the whole tent trailer with all these strings
@medler2110 Жыл бұрын
They are known as Tilts, designed for TIR work as they can be sealed. basically a flatbed with a removable metal frame and a sheet over top, so tent trailer is a good description. Most of the loads I did with them came out of the back, either on a loading bay or they give you a pallet truck and you'd move the pallets to the back, side stripping wasn't too bad, pull out the TIR cord unlace the sides and get a rope or strap to pull the sheet over the top, then they had drop sides and posts, these had the weight of the roof frame, took a hammer or big bit of wood to remove them and sometimes a helpful forklift driver to push them, especially if they were a bit old and had spent their lives crossing the North Sea and sitting on ports. The real fun begun if you had to do a full strip out to get something through the roof, kept you fit though. They've pretty much been replaced by the Euroliners now. Sorry about the long post, but hope you'd be interested in what they were and how we used them.

@stuartesson2405 Yes, at Stranraer!! I used to come off the ferry at Stranraer in the early '80s, if the weighbridge at Dunragit was manned the Irish lads had to hold back, they were always overweight. Some of them used to load in NI, get the ferry, do a trailer change at The Moss and get the ferry back to Larne!

Plenty v8 450s to choose from . We had a magnum a 420 with auto box . Was a pile of crap . Mind u the guy who managed to kill it was rough as hens shite i mind i helped the mechanic strip the engine and we found an odd piston in it someone had bn in there before lol it ended up running but it landed up on the lowloader abd taken down to the auctions at doncaster . Got very little for it but it got rid off it . Personally id have burnt the thing and claimed the insurance . Haha .
