As much as I like Phoenix and sympathize with his situation, I can't help but think it's so less toxic for Trucy to live with Ron and Desiree instead of having to help Phoenix beat his poker opponents for 7 years straight lol

Exactly.. I don't think Phoenix was in the mood to adopt, regardless, unlike the canon timeline.
