Agreed, chimps are primates/mammals just like humans are but ppl just think they can own everything on this planet. I personally own/hoard ants in my flowerbed and tree rats (squirrbos) that torment my dogs by throwing walnuts at them all day. But irl I understand the concept of humans never will be able to own the things that mother nature does, apparently 50K erases the human mind of all abilities to think rationally. It's so sad and I wonder how many times this has happened. There is a man that lives about 10 minutes from me and technically in another town but he has about a dozen big cats. The only teason i know that is bc i worked at the vets office that dealt w them in secret. They knock out the cats and sneak them in and out of the back so no one sees. I know several ppl in that area and they had no idea that the loner down the street with the high fenced in property is home to more big cats than the okc zoo.

I remember when this happened. That woman adopted a wild animal without knowing anything about its needs. She had absolutely no idea what she was doing. She learned as she went along - she learned from Encyclopedia Britinnica. She had no business snatching a baby, and the conservator had no business had to business selling the baby. And Travis's attack...Xanax is not meant for chimps. No idea if S got the dosage right. He may have been hallucinating. Maybe Elmo looked 12 feet tall and was attacking and Travis thought he was defending himself. No way to tell. I feel so sorry for S for her losses. It is a terrible thing to lose your family. But she wanted a baby to play with. She should've just opened her home to foster children.

I think he was traumatized by losing a person who had helped to raise him. At a basic level, Travis was a wild animal treated like a human. No matter what he was taught or who raised him, I feel he always was capable of violence. Something set him off that day, like jealousy over Sandra as you mentioned, and he completely lost the control everyone thought he possessed. Yeah, I listened to the 911 call for this case and I was soooo frustrated. I also think monkeys can only give birth to one monkey at a time every 2-3 years. So, I think it’s way different than adopting a puppy from a litter.

Sorry for all of the comments but I just wanted to confirm what you said about pets being able to sense when something is wrong with us. They can absolutely sense when we are sick. Some dogs are even trained to warn people when they are about to have a seizure, when their glucose is high or low and actually smell if someone has certain types of skin cancer. Animals are just amazing!!

I agree with you, “exotic” animals aren’t meant for a domesticated life and it’s not fair to want to confine them to that. I do think Travis and Sandra were very co-dependent of each other, especially that he was taken from his mother at 3 days old. I think he was upset that she had left him for her weekend getaway. He was doing what came natural to him. It was a sad story all around.

What I love the most about Brittney is I could have heard a story before- like this one but the way she tells them differently and there's always details added in that I never heard the first go around. Not to knock other faves but Brittney always adds a little extra to help the story more and we love you for that ❤

I honestly think it was the Xanax that caused him to act out like that. There are people everywhere that have a negative reaction to Xanax so imagine the affects it has on a animal.

I fully believe that the xanax was the whole reason for the attack. As a person who was formerly addicted to it, I lashed out many times, feeling completely out of control with no sense of a way to process the anger outside of verbal and/or physical aggression. It's the reason I got help. Do not give animals your medications period!!

This is a public service announcement: show species-specific love. Case in point, turning a monkey into a human and showing him human centric love, will leave the animal confused and not equipped to handle. Show species specific love.

I think Travis didn’t want to run the risk of his “mom” leaving again. It’s unfortunate that people don’t understand that animals, no matter how domesticated, are not going to react the way humans will, EVER.
@s.matai2c1553 жыл бұрын
I've heard this story before but never in your version which was the most preferred as you've already been told from all of us! However, not only your narration was on point BUT that final commentary from the perspective of the animal itself exposing our selfishness as humans got me feeling all kinds of ways about it. You are absolutely right in your assessment of the fact that taking on a primate animal as such from its natural habitat and spending all kinds of coins to try to make them humans is in essence boxing them and caging them away from its kind. And this supposedly act of kindness is in essence a true demonstration of our selfishness as humans in trying to manipulate the animal's environment for our own entertainment and our self-loathing purposes! And YES! Animals we have close relationships with as our personal pets do have an innate 6th sense within themselves to be able to anticipate human emotions. Therefore, they do sense when we feel happy or sad, stressed or relaxed. Afterall, just as we, as humans, were created by God with our individual Spirits, our animals were also created by the same loving God with their own animal Spirits. Hence, we should never mistreat animals, likewise ourselves and each other.
