Mahershala Ali just KILLED IT! Mesmerizing! What a great actor he is. Great supporting cast too. Believable, relatable characters, stunning cinematography, great conclusion. Season 1 remains top notch for me, but this was waay above season 2. Cannot wait for season 4! Easily one of my most favorite shows.

Season 3 could always be a step up from Season 2, a certain redemption for how bad many people thought it was. But Season 1 is top notch, always will be. Rust and Marty's chemistry cannot be beaten.

@@vito9985 I struggled with the ending of season 2 for a while. Ray's death and whole arc was heart wrenching for me. The season had plenty of issues but I did find the characters (especially Ray) super tragic and relatable. Then the ending is just pure depression lol. But I guess that was the point, good guys don't always win. The game's are rigged and the world isn't fair. I do think the plot was a little too convoluted and no where near as interesting as season 1. But overall it's not a bad show and it has plenty of great things about it. But when you compare it to McConaughey and Harrelson in season one everything's gonna look worse next to that powerhouse of a season.

In someway its a little sad that season 2 was stuck between two great seasons. The actors were great and the story was good. It simply just stood in the shadow of the phenomenal first season and when season three returned to form, it just make the second season seem lackluster. If it were its own thing, I think people would look at it in a better light, its only crime is being outperformed by truly remarkable standalone seasons.

While it's now overwhelmingly clear that Pizzolatto told the one story he wanted to tell and/or was able to tell compellingly with season 1 of TD, this season is still underrated. It has a phenomenal Mahershala Ali performance at its core, and is perhaps the most artful depiction of dementia I've seen in film or television. Stephen Dorff is also great- all the performances are, truly. It's really just the story that lets season 3 down; it simply isn't compelling enough to fully pull the viewer in. But still, there's a lot to like about this season.

I just loved the spooky vibe of Luisiana in season 1 Is there any other place like that in US ,bcz I am not from US That spooky surounding with that subtle score really gave me subtle shiver down the spine , and worked really well with the creepiness of the bad guys . The yellow kning and mythos also really worked well.

This season focuses on how the "crime" affected the characters and their community, and not as much on "the bad guys". It avoids being a retread of the first season by slowing pulling us away from the dark obsession we have with true crime and into the embrace of the people we love that got neglected because of our need to find closure in every mystery out there in the universe. The final was absolutely amazing with (SPOILERS) Hays vanishing into the Vietnam jungle with the knowledge that he did emerge in the end.

This season was ultimately not what I wanted from True detective while the actors were good it focused too much on character study and not much else. The new series from HBO the Outsider is what this season should have been more like hopefully will take notes for the next season.
