I think I understand what she's trying to get at but I think it misses the mark. Relationships are often based on truths, reality, and often come with premade ways of operating. Parents are the parents of their children, parents take care of their children, teach their children, provide for their needs, love their children, etc. These are obligations and the nature relationship is based on these. Shared experiences involving emotions" is vague and subjective and lends itself to ideas such as "being your child's friend". Now when it comes to education, are there truths about the world that tell us what our relationship to created things should be like? What sort of mastery should we have over mathematics, reading- what should our relationship with nature look like? Basing our relationship with created things on "experiences" goes into subjective territory and ends in moral therapeutic deism. Especially if our emotions are taken into account. Wonder is not an emotion - it's a spiritual gift and a virtue- and it's where our relationship with most of the created world and with God should start. Thoughts?

Forming a relationship with the information that you are learning not just memorizing dry facts.
