@janeeyre1990
@janeeyre1990 Жыл бұрын
@@oscarmoreno65 , I am autistic, so get ready for an overly detailed explanation because I don't know if you're joking or not. In the context of the initial comment, the phrase "broke me" is slang that essentially means "made me laugh very hard." If you imagine a person doing work or homework while listening to the video, they might say that the video "broke them" if it makes them laugh so hard that they can't focus on their task anymore. There are a lot of violent metaphors currently in use in English. For example, saying that a performer "killed" or "slayed" just means they did really well.

4:10 Random Fun Fact: Ever heard of the saying, "Don't look a gift horse in the mouth!"? It's because you can tell their age by their teeth and when horses were given as gifts, if the recipient checked the teeth it was deemed as rude because it's a gift so it shouldn't matter how old the horse is.

I first came upon the trapped skeleton of a beaver in the Canadian wilderness in 1973. The trap was chained near the base of a tree and was old and rusted, and the head of the skeleton had these two MASSIVE teeth growing all the way back into the skull, and parts of them were orange-tinted. Both cool and a little strange for a twelve-year-old kid from the Illinois suburbs.

It should be noted that so-called "living fossils" like horshoe crabs, coelocanths, and especially crocodiles have definitely evolved, but their overall body plan has just remained relatively consistent. These animals actually make it really easy to show evolutionary processes, since you can literally just play a game of "spot the difference" between a fossil and a live one. Crocodiles have evolved a lot and tried out some really bizarre things, like the ones that had hooves and could sprint on land. That sounds terrifying, but they actually kinda sucked at it, because they got out-competed into extinction the second something else tried for the same niche. This happened multiple times, by the way.

I really liked this one on The Beaver. I live in rural Alberta where there are plenty of dams. Once I had to stop my car and wait for this rather large Beaver as it dragged a tree across the road. All I could think when watching this beaver was I would struggle if I had to carry that same tree. The tree must have been at least 10 feet long and had a 6 inch girth. The beaver dragged effortlessly across the road and down into the marsh on the other side to its rather sizeable lodge. They are just cool animals. Plus baby beavers are adorable. Never stop doing these Mr Frank. Your videos are wonderful.

Beaver castoreum may still be used sometimes in scented candles, but it hasn't been used in food since we learned to synthesize vanillin. Vanillin is the flavor molecule present in real vanilla so it isn't any different. The spread of the "fun fact" that fake vanilla comes from beavers likely may have been encouraged by Madagascar's vanilla industry, which has a sordid and complicated history and is very invested in the image of being the only "real" source of a plant that used to be native to Mexico.

Another fun fact: according to medieval folklore, castoreum was believed to come from the beaver's testicles. So, when pursued by hunters, the beaver was said to bite its own balls off and throw them away (you can find this cringey little account in the medieval Bestiaries). This story was probably used to justify a false derivation for the word 'castration' ('castor' = Latin for beaver).

We have beavers 🦫 in our creek. At night we used to shine a flashlight back there to catch a glimpse of them. If we walk back there sometimes we would hear a loud “wack” sound when they slap their tails against the water. They chew the bark off of the trees, wait for the tree to die, then cut it down. This is one of the best ze frank videos ever. This and ostriches. These 2 are worth watching 300 times at least. I've watched at least 10 times each already and I don't think I'll stop any time soon.

I just took an entomology class, and was surprised to see our professor pull up your army ant video. I’m not complaining but was surprised to see this video full of adult jokes be used in a college class. Great teacher and great video! Love this channel haha!

I had a history professor once who frequently used clips from "Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure" in his lectures. It was awesome. Shoutout to professors with a sense of humor who like to make learning fun.

Well, technically, most college students are legal adults. There is no comment, however, on how mature they are. Or the professors teaching them.

@@anti-ethniccleansing465 I had him for a couple of classes, and this was ten years ago, so I don't remember exactly. I think it might have been a clip of Napoleon for Military History.

A new zefrank1 was a nice surprise for my day. I was surprised about the 'eating their food twice' part. We raised cows and I used to think about cud chewers and how it would be weird to burp your food back up and rechew it. But after seeing beavers rechew it from farther down the cycle, suddenly the cud chewing doesn't seem so bad. :)

In the 17th and 18th century, beavers ate a LOT of willow trees in the US. Doctors learned that the butt sacs had a concentration of salycilic acid from the willow. Dried beaver butt sacs were used for headaches - and it worked!
