Read some classic literature. She's speaking like a well-educated young lady of the period would, which is meant to be striking because she doesn't come of money. It speaks well of her parents, who educated her properly on the frontier.

Her line about camping with her father at Petit Jean always puts a smile on my face. I live in the same area that her character is from in Arkansas and grew up camping there. If any of you have been there, you'd certainly agree how pretty it is.

I have to admit that I love both versions. Each made at different time reflecting our evolving view of the old west. I'm not fond of Jeff Bridges but he gives a fine performance in this role.

One of a few movies I’ll actually sit and watch if I catch it and enjoy every scene regardless how many times I’ve seen it. I do wish that they had been able to reconnect later in life tho. Not sure if it woulda made the movie better, but I know I woulda enjoyed seeing it. I know it’d likely come off as being outta place and not an ending for this type of story.

That is how people spoke back then. Relationships were much more formal back then, even between parent and child. I think this version is better than the original and that was a good picture. Casting and directing are better in this one.
