Watch me coach Skoottie through the first 12 Antes of this seed here: • The Infinite Point Hand
High Ante and High Score Playlist: • Balatro Science
We try Perkeo again on a set seed this time. Not only are we able to score "infinite" points, but we're able to do this repeatedly, round after round, allowing us to reach Ante 39, where the score required to win is also "infinite."

@@glaucomasi Actually infininity is real. Whether that just means there's an infinite void outside of what we theorize the universe to be or whether there's countless more universes just like what we we theorize our own universe to be out there in that empty void... the fact remains this void is infinite. If you say that the void is finite and can prove it... then sure, that might be true. But if it's finite, there are boundaries... and that would only count for what's within those boundaries. But outside of those boundaries, there's something else that doesn't end. Basically, it doesn't matter how you slice or dice it... beyond the boundaries of something there is always more. And if that also has boundaries, then beyond those boundaries is something else. There's always something else and as such, one can only conclude that infinity is something very real.

nan compared to anything is always false, whether you do < or > or ==. Which is a bit weird, it breaks the mathematical rule that everything satisfies one of the above. I personally think nan just shouldn't exist, it should overflow or error like for integers and the programmer can explicitly decide whether to saturate etc
@FlameRat_YehLon
@FlameRat_YehLon Ай бұрын
@@speedstyle. NaN is literally not a number so I don't think it can do math comparison anyway. Therefore it's never larger, smaller or equal to a number. In fact even comparing NaN to NaN would always return false, if I remembered correctly, and this definition actually makes operator=() and isEqual() not being the same thing even if the number is unboxed.
@FlameRat_YehLon
@FlameRat_YehLon Ай бұрын
@@speedstyle. Also NaN kinda have to exist because even with error flags the processor still have to return a result. On integer numbers, overflow and underflow is always well defined, and div0 can just return 0 because there's no concept of infinity here. But in floating point numbers, there are two infinities and two zeros, which wouldn't be an issue if it's a div0 on a finite number, but infinity div0 or zero div0 can have multiple possible outcome and thus the only result that make sense to return is NaN. Otherwise it'll only be true some of the time, thus breaking the "well defined" requirement for computing.
@speedstyle.
@speedstyle. Ай бұрын
@@FlameRat_YehLon It could just return 0. Why does integer 0/0 not need NaN? Or 1/0 not need inf for that matter? Hardware doesn't implement IEEE properly anyway, all these edge cases take CPU cycles. It does the fastest thing that works for normal floats, then microcode/software checks the flags and swaps out the result if necessary. Then the programmer has to check the flags again because silently propagating NaN was never what you wanted anyway

1.8e308 is infinity is because it’s the biggest number that can be stored “as a double precision floating point variable in 64-but computing” and it’s also the hard limit to how big a number can be in Computing before you need extra libraries or using a different kind of number system. A double precision floating point is just thing that can calculate numbers faster and more precise than its single version but but is a slower calculation. (Not stolen from r/antimatter dimensions). Tl:dr 1e308 is before too big for game unless you code to make bigger numbers

@@lightraysone The truly mind boggling thing is just how big and useless that number is. People often make the comparison that there's about 10^80 atoms in the universe, so you couldn't even count the score by using a universe. It goes far beyond that. The smallest thing in the universe isn't the atom, it's the Planck length, which after a quick Google, number around 4.65 x 10^185 (don't worry about expansion). Even if we count every "thing" in the entire universe, we can't do it. As a matter of fact, we're short by 10^122, we have to copy our universe well more than a Googol (that is, the original; 10^100) times and count all of them in totality to reach the score. What's even more hilarious is just how *small* that number is. If you compare our score to a Googolplex (the "biggest" colloquial "number", you'd hear on the street) 1 with a Googol zeroes or 10^(10^100), it comes out to effectively nothing, and there's still an infinite number of numbers that are bigger than a Googleplex - TREE(3) is probably the best intersection of funny sounding and famous. Ultimately every number is no closer to infinity than the last. Mathematically speaking, my Deuce High Card for 10 Chips is just about as close as any hand the game can produce.

for those who are confused on the aspect of what these numbers mean at the end: naneinf would be "not a number exponent inf", or naneinf. whilst infinity is here, "not a number" takes precedence, and thus naneinf = nan, but why would that not register? nan isn't a number, its the absence of one. its effectively setting these variables without any default at all, so the game simply moves on to the next script.

Important thing is that IEEE standards dictate that any NaN value when compared with another NaN value will always return false (this is done so if an error occurs like a multiplication overflow garbage data isn't spat out.) So when the game compares if the players score >= the required score will always be false. Balatro is already using double precision floating-point numbers (64 bit) to calculate the score so it's pretty unlikely we'll see a score higher than 1.7e+308 unless the dev really wants to implement a bigger data type (easier said than done) to let people push the limits here.

22:14 I was able to guess the correct answer. Consider most of your points come from the steel cards being retriggrred over and over, and their driving the mult up exponentially as they are retriggered. Then going from 6 to 8 in-hand steel cards will result in a 33% increase (8/6=1.3333) in the exponent of the output. Then the number following the E should be about 33% larger than before. If it’s 56, guesstimate that 60->80, and 4->~6, so 56->80-6=~74

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but wouldn’t it technically be better to have 4 mimes and 3 barons instead of the other way around? With the extra mime, you still get 14 triggers of baron (Initial + red seal + mimes*barons), but you also get an additional trigger of steel, so each king would give an extra *1.5. Granted, it doesn’t matter anyways because you already have enough to win, but it would just help you save a few of the consumables on the way to ante 39 by making it take longer before you begin losing consumables. Maybe I’m missing something though, so please let me know if I am.

It appears that your calculation for the number of triggers of barons is slightly off. It is instead [(Initial + red seal + mimes) * barons]. The whole equation is [(1 + barons) * (2 + mimes)], where the 1 added to the barons is for the steel card, and the 2 added to the mimes is for the initial proc & red seal. At the start, there were actually 16 triggers of x1.5, only half of which were from the baron. I did not include the steel in my initial equation because OP didn't either (and I simplified it to just numbers because "initial" and "red seal" are both representing 1 and IMO it makes it more clear to express it this way, especially when including steel)@@Benw8888

Plasma deck is busted for the reason that a polynomial will always outpace a linear function at some point. The burden is twice as high chip requirements, a linear cost. But the benefit is that your mult gets halved and then squared. At large numbers like this, that’s effectively the same thing as just squaring it. Worse case scenario, your mult goes down one exponent, and then the chips x mult squares it. So you go from (some low number of chips * mult) to effectively (chips + mult)^2 / (2^2). This results in polynomial growth which is highly effective at keeping you ahead of the curve, because the magnitude of your score is essentially doubled. Not exponential, unlike the Perkeo play.

I can’t be certain but I believe that the reason why Mr Bones doesn’t trigger is because both the requested number and the number scored lie outside of a 64 bit processor’s countable numbers (probably phrased incorrectly); so the game isn’t certain weather you reached the minimum threshold of half X score for the blind. Imagining it working though I guess the limitation would be how many negative Mr. Bones you can create? I’m not sure if there’s a way to duplicate negative jokers fast enough to keep up while still maintaining a high enough score to reach this point. Maybe if mods get introduced someone will be driven to find that route, which I think would be very cool
@bigboi1004
@bigboi1004 17 күн бұрын
@@Sleeepy. the exact reason is a bit more nuanced. The floating-point standard (IEEE 754 if u wanna look it up) defines comparing NaN to other numbers like this (I'm going to use the number 7 for demo purposes, and there are more that I'm not listing): - NaN < 7 is false - NaN > 7 is false - NaN = 7 is false - NaN = NaN is false - NaN > NaN is false NaN is also contagious in a sense, when you use it in arithmetic operations the result is NaN. 7 * NaN = NaN, for instance. The game logic to trigger Mr. bones, based on the behavior, seems to be: - Take the number of chips you have and multiply by 4 (remember that 4 * NaN = NaN) - If the result is larger than the chips required to win, Mr. Bones triggers. There's the issue. By definition NaN is not greater than NaN, so Mr. bones will never trigger.

The reason an infinite score is not enough is that in the underlying implementation of finite precision math that the game uses, all comparisons to NAN come out with a value of FALSE. For example the result of "1 < 2" is TRUE, but "1 < NAN" and "1 > NAN" are both FALSE. Comparing a number to something that is "Not A Number" is not allowed in the underlying implementation of how the processor does math. So, how do you check that the score is bigger than the requirement if the requirement is not something you are even allowed to compare against?

@raphael122
@raphael122 3 ай бұрын
It stacks yeah, he tried it while waiting to get a cryptid (see the other vids on parkeo) The issue is that the scaling is slower than cryptids by a long shot. One negative pluto is only x1.5, so if you have 200 sure it gives you a x1e35 and you dont need to use them, but a single cryptid used is x1e18, thanks to mime and barons doing a lot of multiplicating. So already with 2 cryptids you have more value than 200 pluto.

@@TrimutiusToo I doubt the Balatro code base is that large, so I don't think it would be that hard. Although it does depend a bit on the language. But Lua even has operator overloading for example. And it doesn't even have types you'd need to change. Though I guess that also means that you wouldn't easily be able to spot all the places that'd need to change, which could make it kinda dangerous. But there are languages like Python that have native arbitrary size integers, so not exactly always a hassle to work with such large numbers.

Yeah eventually you just run into binary floating point precision problems. For applications that are not games and run on computers with a lot of ram and time at their disposal you can have a system of arbitrary precision numbers that has to kind of process the numbers in chunks like you'd do in highschool multiplication or addition etc. So what I'm trying to say is that you can have an even bigger number, but such large numbers will weigh tens of gigabytes of ram.
@1vader
@1vader 3 ай бұрын
How much RAM they take up is soley determiend by how large they are. The numbers we're dealing with here are still extremely tiny. The game overflows at 10^308. You can store that number exactly as an integer in just 1024 bits i.e. 128 bytes or one eight of a KB. If you use floating precision numbers like the game does, 128-bit numbers (i.e. twice what the game uses or 16 bytes) would be enough for around 10^5000. With "just" a GB of RAM, you could go up to 2^2_000_000_000 (i.e. 2 billion x2 triggers which would take 63 years at 100/s) precisely and way way way way larger if you use floating point numbers. And ofc you could switch to even more imprecise systems to store even larger numbers in the same space. There's not really a reason the game couldn't do this and in fact there are games that do this. But ofc it's more effort and there's not really much a point to it.
@danser_theplayer01
@danser_theplayer01 3 ай бұрын
@@1vader You see the problem here is that I don't know a language that will be able to properly interpret numbers in 128 bit size. Most platforms are 64bit based, I'm not familiar with any language that ignores the architecture of your computer and uses custom bit sizes bigger that traditional.
@1vader
@1vader 3 ай бұрын
@@danser_theplayer01 You can fairly easily implement this yourself using any form of array/vector/list or just a few variables of a natively supported integer type for fixed precision. Especially if you only need addition and multiplication. But basically every language already has libraries for arbitrary precision numbers. Java, JavaScript, and probably a bunch more even have it built in. Python and a few others even have arbitrary precision integers as the default. And most languages will also at least give you software-emulated 64-bit numbers on 32-bit systems. There are also a decent number of languages that have larger fixed-size numbers built in, e.g. Rust has 128 but integers, I think the same for C and C++, and C# has built-in 128bit floats.
@danser_theplayer01
@danser_theplayer01 3 ай бұрын
@@1vader To precisely tell what a binary number is in decimal you need to keep increasing it by power of 2 for every bit, but for that you need big enough decimal numbers to begin with, so I have no idea who how and where done it. Unless the implementation involves long arrays and digit-by-digit operations like in highschool math. In which case it'd be slow and eat enough memory to be noticeable. I'm not like an engine engineer who knows the deep low level way of things working, usually when someone says "oh there's an implementation in python" they just mean they have interacted with the facade (interface?). I've thought up an implementation in javascript (because that's what I use and because I can't seem to make c++ work on my computer) but I feel like very few people know how to do it better and I'm not one of them.
@1vader
@1vader 3 ай бұрын
@@danser_theplayer01 Well, if you just use one of the existing libraries for this or the built-in features of Python, Java, JavaScript, etc. you don't need to understand how it works. E.g. in a moderately modern version of JavaScript, you can just use "13n" to get a BigInt which will never overflow. Try "2n ** 1000n" for example. The way this is usually implemented under the hood is effectively by using an array of smaller integer types where each integer is effectively a digit in a base the size of the integer type. It's a bit similar to the "highschool method" but uses large numbers as the base, so you don't have that much overhead. 128bits is basically just 2 digits, 1024 bits is 16. Although even a really naive implementation using decimal digits would probably still be fast enough for something like Balatro. Any computer from the last decade can do at least a billion operations per second so you could easily spare a few thousand to add two numbers with a thousand digits. Balatro maybe processes around a dozen score events a second, so you'd still not even use 1/1000 of the CPU if you need a million operations for those. And I mean, how do you think integers are implemented on the hardware? They are built up exactly the same way with addition on individual bits or smaller chunks. And obviously, you can emulate arbitrary hardware in software. It just gets slower. But at the scales we're talking about here, it's completely insignificant.
