"no maintenance!" That's a huge benefit and shoiud be far more discussed than just a mention! I think petrol engine users fail to look at the hassle and maintenance they have to deal with and once you have a petrol outboard with issues, it's really a pain in the arse.

I have two Torqueedos - a 503 and a 1003. Recently, my 1003 stopped taking a charge. It ran well, but wouldn't recharge. The folks at Torqueedo were useless. All they said was to send it to a service center, but they had no suggestions as to why the charging failed. At $700 a pop one should get better attention than that.

I got the 500 watt hour battery and can only manage approx 30mins on full throttle. It obviously looks good on a very small dinghy and no current...

Don't go at full throttle then.

We have a 1003C and have had no end of issues with it - it's now effectively an economic write off and we've ditched it for a Suzuki.

Just get a cheap Haswing protruar. If you don't need to go faster than 2-4 knots which is a rational limit for an electric it is a great solution. I run 12v one on inflatable kayak with self made 60ah lifepo4 battery for years in Scandinavian fjords. Easily doing 20km trips with 5-6kmh average.

Looks to me like you can get the same thing with a MinnKota trolling motor and a Battle Born LiPo battery and save about $800

I don't know -- it may not be loud in decibels, but I'm not sure I want to listen to that high-pitched whine for 3 hours straight. Loudness isn't the only factor in sound -- tone & pitch matter, too.

What is the planing speed of the dingy?
@roddawson38554 жыл бұрын
With electric outboards you need quite a different mentality compared to petrol powered. Don't expect them to plane or go fast. They typically have large, high thrust propellers which only turn relatively slowly. Therefore they can push quite large loads but won't plane or go fast.

After debating for nearly a year, finally broke down and got a 1003 L for our 14' Whitehall. Seems to push us steady at 5-6 knots with four adults in the boat, does whine but still better than the 3hp Evinrude I had in college some decades ago. Nervous about the breaking shear pins I hear about but treat it l like a regular outboard and run in freshwater after each use. Our boat is great at rowing so I figure I'll just go as far as I'm comfortable rowing back! kzbin.info/www/bejne/jGTXqISvpLWXrM0

It's an awful lot of money to spend only to have to end up rowing your way home, though.

So it is "very very quite" but you didn't show the sound on full throttle, switching to music. All torqeedos whine pretty loud due to gears. You can get way cheaper and more reliable haswing with a separate more flexible battery.
@TRUEKITINFLATABLES5 жыл бұрын
Would you like to recommend some models to other people that are cheap and reliable?
@shelekhov5 жыл бұрын
@@TRUEKITINFLATABLES using haswing protruar cheapest 12v model for 3 years in salt water. Goes 6-7kmh at 12v 40amps. But I do 15-18amps for long trips that gives 5-6kmh and ~20km trip. You can build own lifepo4 pretty cheap from Winston cells. Will be like x3-x4 cheaper and way more reliable than Troqeedo. I don't fancy a top mount for the heavy battery as well.

I cannot fathom how you can keep saying it's very quiet! I had this exact model and sold it, because the loud whine at higher speeds was so intrusive! It's only quiet when you're running it at slow speeds.
@Ira888815 жыл бұрын
With such limited run time at full throttle, and its cost, it’s a no brainer that it doesn’t make any sense at all to buy this. If one is concerned about enough push through heavier current or wind, use TWO regular inexpensive trolling motors, at a third of the cost and with more flexible, and DEPENDABLE, battery options.

Make them remotely "affordable" and I'd buy one. They look nice but, are out of the range that most people can afford...typical German "over engineering"! Lol
