Each summer, Carnegie Hall's Weill Music Institute brings together the brightest young musicians from across the country (ages 16-19) to form the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America (NYO-USA). Retired middle school orchestra director here. When our school had a sewage leak, Villanova University graciously gave us space. But they gave the orchestra a room three flights up - with no elevator. You should have seen the looks on my bass players' faces.

This is so true. The bass section when I was in high school was so crap. I was guy in the video telling everyone that they should be practicing. Also, stairs never were a problem for me.

I used Nyman. Recently I can't find any Nyman around, so I just use Pirastro Cello rosin (this is the rosin that I could find at the time, it's for emergency; others were for violin, what the hell) oh no... I'm gonna try Pirastro Oliv-Evah rosin if there is no double bass rosin around... I heard good reviews about them from a double bassist... I'm gonna to hunt for Kolstein as my next rosin =D
