I love the Papa Legba ritual. Many years ago, I shared the fashion show from True Stories with my father. And he was so inspired by that scene, he decided to put on a similar fashion show at the campground he stayed at. The fashion show transformed into talent shows they had every year for many years until my father passed away. I think Papa Legba had a hand in all of that.

This is one of those movies that anyone I'm in a relationship with has to watch. They don't have to like it. And there's a rule of reciprocity -- I'll watch their favorite movie too. As long as it's not Chasing Amy.

David Byrne? Genius. But Pops Staples? One of the greatest interpreters of song who ever lived. I wish David had realized how special this was and had written & performed (with the Talking Heads) an entire album for Pops to sing.

Obviously you are completely unaware of all the collaborative projects that Bryne has done over the years with such artists as Brian Eno, Fatboy Slim, St. Vincent, Selena, Anna Calvi or all the work he has done promoting South American musicians including starting a the world music label Luaka Bop. After putting out the South American influenced Rei Momo, which used and introduced numerous indigenous musicians he also produced an album that was solely music from these musicians playing their traditional pieces. But believe what you will if it makes you happy. ;-)
