Really missed alot in this summary. Many parts are flat out wrong in regards to the action in the movie and over all just a superficial job. Case in point at 2:53 according to the narration, "Harold pulls a notebook out...". It is NOT a note book it is his identity papers, it was his "Soldbuch" or "soldiers book" where his identity was confirmed and pay and unit affiliation was recorded. These are the papers that everybody kept demanding to see and he actually tried to eat when he was arrested by the military police. He kept his own papers, just in case he needed to ditch the Captain uniform as the Captain's soldbuch would not have his picture or particulars in it.

@MajorCoolD3 жыл бұрын
No, he was a german deserter... the soldiers chasing him at the start were so called 'Feldpolizei', military police. In 1945 there were many deserters and looting going on, especially on the Eastern Front where the fighting had been utterly merciless. As the frontline collapsed and it became more and more apparent that the war was lost, general order and discipline fell more and more apart, especially since sometimes the chain of Command could be rather byzantine due to Political influence and meddling of the SS and other overlapping responsibilities. At that time deserters were usually shot or hanged and there were orders from up top that people who were talking about defeat, surrender etc. were to be considered traitors to the german people. The Feldpolizei became increasingly desensitsed that they often shot singular soldiers who were apparently away from their Units without further investigation. This is why Herold's crimes are so despicable and why he carries them out without much remorse or hesitation, as he has both seen it happen and knew that if he didnt 'act tough', his ruse would become obvious. Though I got to admit that the movie's summary was a bit confusing XD

I read the rise and fall of the third Reith in which towards the end of the war, SS bands would travel across Nazi control territory to hang anyone suspected of being a deserter. There were incidences of supply soldiers hanged simply because they had expired pass or no pass when there werent enough soldiers to man the front lines or command chain were in disarray. It didnt help that on certain day, more soldiers were hanged than casualties suffering in both fronts.

What the hell is nazi captain uniform? German uniform, wehrmacht uniform, ss uniform etc. Stop using fake word "nazi" in terms of WW2.

The uniform he has, looks more like a Luftwaffe Captain's outfit to me.

"Nazi" is the correct term, the uniform belongs to a member of the nazi party

For an explanation channel the content put out seems to be great at managing to just clip past characters being introduced.

Talk about immersing yourself in the role. Herold went 0 to 100 real quick once he found the uniform.
