Gonna comment here cause I guess many people will ask why they overhaul Y'shtola. Personally, I think she has been in the spot where most of her kits are very hard to balance for the developer. She has got a lot of change After Y'shtola rework reveal. I try playing her for 70+ games or so to get a feel of her. and I never feel this strange since I played Pre rework Firion in high rank before. Her moveset, in general, is pretty unique, but I found most of them either weak, can easily counter by opponents, or high risk but not high reward. So I will break down each of them. 1. Debuff: Y'shtola attacks are pretty weak overall, but it's the trade-off for her debuff. (some attack doesn't has debuff like Ruin which I think it's weak in general) but most of them doesn't really worth the trade. Stone slow debuff is 10% speed decrease and last 10 seconds but it the projectile doesn't cause knockback and has low tracking. Virus debuff decrease attack and defense by 10% which is pretty nice. but for a slow moving projectile. it does track enemy well and doesn't last long at all. Aero and Aero II debuff is 200 Brave Degen, but the damage of Aero is only 304, which mean a total gain and loss of bravery is 808, which is lower than 90% of attack in this game (And if you can't buff and damage scaling, it's even way worse) Blizzard II debuff is a game changer if it land but it's the hardest trap to land in to game, Fluid Aura bind is only worthed if wall is behind enemy or teammate can follow up. cause 2 seconds bind is not really that long. Outside HP attack debuff. I don't find any of bravery attack debuff to affect to game that much. and she has to lose a lot of thing for it. 2. Close range Trap: Gotta say it right now, aside from Aero II to Vivifying Lance combo. She doesn't need more than one close-range trap in her kit. It might be unique thing about her moveset, but it cause more trouble for her and her team. The thing about close range trap is that it's only useful when enemy is close (even that, most marksman has self defense attack for that) or when enemy is coming at you. but compare to other marksmans, Y'shtola doesn't give enough pressure to opponent team to come at her. Her long range projectile is the weakest, 3 out of 8 move is for trap, 1 is for stun at close range. So there are only 4 long range attacks for her to utilzed her close range zoning. But all of them are projectile. only one of them is fast, the zoning one don't last long enough to keep enemy busy. and the lack of search attack make a stage with even a little bit of obstacle a bane of her existance. She is effective in small map like Alexandria. but even that stage has a crap ton of thing to block her line of fire. Additionally she doesn't has long range HP attack. which mean she has to move in close to enemy to deal damage often. Abanding her setup if she has one. There are some other use for traps like secure Summon core. but it has Ghost priority which mean Marksman can ignore that. Oh speaking marksman.. 3. Oh my god, how can every marksman counter her so hard!: I know she is weak against Marksman, but never thought they will counter her this hard. Every Marksman out priority her, Almost every Marksman out speed her (Even god damn Emperor). Close range with Ghost priority is useless agianst them. With the lack of glide, Y'shtola is similar to Firion where she is really weak against Search attack (Except Firion now has faster attack animation overall and can dodge a bit easier) and it's not like she can hard counter other class either. Assassin can ignore her and fight someone else far away, Vanguard can do the same or use long range attack aginst her. and if you're team group up near her to utilzed her trap, then hope you have one more marksman cause she will lose her duel with marksman most of the time. During my playtime with Y'shtola. I found myself have to move a lot and rearly get a chance to position it right and shoot projectile, which even then due to her lack of damage, it doesn't make much of a dense most of the time. so I usually get close to enemy and use trap and HP attack at point blank to even hit someone, I feel like I played weak melee character with above average projectile. It's not like I hated playing her, I like her Vivifying lance and its ability to charge to trick enemy and heal teammate, Holy is still pretty satisfy, and I love her Ex skill and how I can taunt enemy this way. it was rather mix honestly. I guess there is very specfic way to play her with specifc team comp to make her work. but consider that her pick rate is not high. and how many change she got pre rework (Pretty sure only Onion Knight has more pre rework change than her). The balance team try to make her work for 3 years and can't really find a truly good spot for her. so they would rather do a big rework for her. If there is anything I miss about Y'shtola or some tips. Let me know cause I will still played Pre rework Y'shtola until I got 100 win title. Who knows, maybe I will change my mind. but right now I'm hard lean on New Y'shtola.

Okay I absolutely love y'shtola as of right now. I have gotten her to crystal rank and I even won 3 vs 1 battles with her. Her specialty right now is traps, they work extremely well with melee'ers. With other marksman you have to go on the offensive approach and use the traps on them directly. Oh, and about fighting melee characters you have to fight more than one because they mostly come at you when you're not paying attention so its really funny seeing them going head-first into your traps. The people I found that works well with her is lightning and shantotto. With them you can really go the distance. In gauntlet mode I've gotten to the boss plenty of times and won! Using them. (Actually they are my main team I fight with) with this lame update I don't know if all my strategies will work with her anymore I will have to basically learn how to fight with her from scratch or find someone else and leave her behind now.... (Sigh) anyway I hope in some way this helped you understand her a little. Well anyway good vid.

Same here. I would've rather they delay updating her and found a way to keep her unique mechanics and just enhance her old moveset as opposed to copy/pasting a bog standard marksman moveset onto her to make more people use her.

So, based on your explanation: 1. Allow her debuffs to stack on themselves (up to three times, increasing effect and duration with each stack) while reducing their effectiveness slightly (70% of what they do now). Bind time on Fluid Aura and Blizzard could be extended to 5 secs in exchange for doing less damage. For ruin, make it hit harder and travel faster. 2. Make the dash attack traps and Holy snare spawn at midrange. Make Holy Snare chargeable to long range, but reduce the number of Holy Snares you can have to 3 instead of the 4 you have now. Allow her original backward ground to spawn a midair trap rather then a grounded one. 3. Just increase her projectile priority and the duration time for her forward ground and forward aerial. Or keep her projectile priority as is and just increase traveling speed and duration instead. In short, the complete overhaul was unnecessary. She's a support mage, not an attack mage. I think what everyone forgets is that, first and foremost, Y'shtola is a healer. Her job isn't to destroy the enemy (We have WAY too many Marksman doing that already), it's to support her team. Her being "not as great at combat as ACTUAL battlemages" thing is not a con. It's a mark of her uniqueness and originality. She doesn't have to hit that hard, she just has to help everyone on her team hit harder.

So swapping classes gets rid of her traps. The ONE thing that would justify class changing having a penalty (being able to effectively protect the area around her while sniping as long as she takes the time to prep), and they completely mess it up. Honestly that’s the important difference between her and the older class changers (mostly). Cecil gets a damage buff for changing. Lightning can swap on a dime, and close in for melee with a slow ranged attack providing cover. Onion Knight recovers HP and Bravery for changing after the initial switch. Y’shtola has almost no reason to change, and a lot of good reasons why she shouldn’t.

Cecil and Onion Knight get buffs because that's their unique EX skill which allows them to change classes, and it has a cooldown. I do think the penalty is a bit much though.

there are defy. many reasons for yshtola to switch styles in Combat, sure there are some where u dont but then u dont Need the other moveset, i think u see this a bit too negative

Not really. Y’shtola’s Pulse of Life is a carbon copy of The Sending; Holy was different as it was an overhead AOE, rather than a 360 degree AOE

Even though classic NT Y'shtola is still dear to me, I think her rework might offer some ease of playability (YMMV though). Besides, in FFXIV, the main character can change classes with a weapon swap, and vanilla ARR Cleric Stance makes a mender transform into a stone catapult.

This is what is kinda worrying. Her THM moves feel like recycled moves from other marksman movesets which could potentially be rather toxic as changes like this remove unique forms of gameplay. Too much of this just reduces characters to being merely different skins for the same moveset. Different characters with completely different movesets is part of what sets Dissidia apart from many other fighters.

The idea is nice, since I personally had very mixed feelings on pre-rework Y'shtola. She felt insanely overpowered when she was with a strong Vanguard/Specialist comp like Cloud and Bartz because her debuffs and CC's gave those two everything they need to play the game by themselves, but could back them up with consistent healing to deal with punishment that occurs more in a 2v3 scenario. This was at the time when I mained Sephiroth exclusively (Yes, he was absolute garbage then.) and she felt like she had a place with her obnoxious HP attacks like Holy, Lance of Life and Spiritual Ray God Bomb. Combined with consistent healing, CC's and debuffs up the wazoo, made her a great assist character, yet she could never sustain high bravery herself unless the opponents were lacking. Perhaps they changed this more off the basis that "Support" characters don't really fit too well into Dissidia NT's format of aggressive strategy? The rework however feels like they wanted to give her a unique place, but not make her unique? She's now a generic shoot-type marksman with bad bravery in every sense, and a class swap gimmick like TreeMan and Light although it's on a marksman. And overall, she has less variety than before. My biggest criticism is that there's no forward bravery, and her moves from each class cannot be on the field simultaneously. Variety is the reason characters like Terra are so well made and strong, nerf her a million times, she has fundamentals that make her perfectly well-rounded. She has a large set of tools for different purposes which all do their jobs perfectly. Y'shotla should have been kept as a character designed for offensive comps to support them, and be rather situational. As of now, I main Firion, who has little to fear against Y'shotla compared to characters like Yuna and Terra, since I'm not concerned about my positioning against her as much as I would if I played him before her rework. Due to her lack of damage, range and interrupt value. But most importantly because she can't section off key areas of terrain I could use for ground turretting. TL;DR She felt like she had a place in offensive comps before, but now has a place as a lesser version of generic marksman-style characters. Appriciate the idea, but would prefer OG Y'shtola, even if she was "too strong" or "too weak"

I was using her especialy in some quartz match to fast level up when a new character dlc comes out. But they nerfed her, they made her less powerful for damaging the cristal and they removed the moveset when she jump and shooted 3 very fast black lazers. I loved that move, i'm sad it doesn't exist anymore.

I'm glad she's not very debuff heavy now. Some of her debuffs were really annoying and easy to inflict. In return, she's more well-rounded now, which is fine in my book.

As I'm a Y'shtola main, it's funny that you think Stone now is better because knockback. Knockback ruins team combos though. I can't count the many combos I did with Stone and Ruin 'cause are a lot. And Ruin it's one of the most I use because of its good tracking, huge range, she can cast It again and again really fast and also stops enemy. Perfect for rescue and can do team combo with a bit of organitation with your mate ("Entrust that foe to me!") All of people who says that it's impossible make combos with her or they have no idea how Y'shtola works (even this game) or they are useless. Yes, its true that she needs long range HP attacks, but the exchange cost her Lance and now she's extremly reliant of team combos like Yuna, but she doesn't have Valefor to count with another way of HP damage.

she is way more flexible now, u can still try for Team Combos with THM mode or just hp attack on our own since she has viable hp attacks now, vic. lance was her most useful hp attack usually but Overall her new hp attack set is a lot better, knowback on Stone is useful for self defense, a lot markman have it

I agree. I dont think this rework is neccessarily bad, though i dont think i will like her as much. I loved her traps and people always say how she cant hold and im like "Uh, shes got more moves that hold than most marksmen." Ruin is fantastic at holding and interuppting people. Stone holds (although not for too long unless you're at just the right range to land a bunch in a row). Fluid aura literaly binds people. And so does Blizzard (although yeah its a trap and its designed so that you cant just throw it on someone to bind them). And when people complain about her hps being bad im also confused. I agree that spiritual ray was bad, and the way that was changed is good i think, but the rest are fine. Holy is a very powerful AOE hp, jus like the others that exsist. Lance (my personal favorite) actualy has good range and can charge to bait dodges and such. Holy snare does brave damage and you can set four of them. And it comes out pretty quickly too. I get that her projectile's proirity is low. But if thats such a problem they can just up that instead of change her completely. People complain she gets beat out by other marksmen cause of it but attacking other marksmen isnt supposed to be a MM job anyway! so why would she try to duel other MM? IDK i just see so many things i dont like with this rework

@@ketchumall8243 she still has a lot traps (: well holy and lance were viable but holy snare has a very bad hitbox, very easy to dodge it, btw u can only place 3 of them i think, was good for very small Areas like Alexandria but beside that meh skill, they could have Keep the lance but whaetver, they probably thought she is strong enough now so they got rid of her wave like attack and gave her a similiar set as yuna, tough i think her new holy snare can be used as wave attack but not sure, projectile priority is very important, its what marksmen gives area Control so the teammates have room to attack the enemy

@@MoritzBra you mean two. She has two traps. And they go away if you switch to Thamaturge. Thats my biggest problem. That and you lose EX skill charge when you change. They punish you for changing classes. Why? Also Lance isnt a wave attack its a mid range charge attack like Gungir or Samurai. Also old holy snare you can place 4 not 3. And yeah, obviously it isnt good for bigger maps, but if your team plays around you right you can still make it work. And imo if project priority is a problem, juat raise the prio of her abilities! They didnt need to completely change her to do that. Imo her changes could have been as simple as this: -give her glide on Ruin and Stone -raise the priority of Virus and Aero ( the moving one) -Do what they did to Spiritual ray ( i do 100% agree with that change) -clean up lances tracking and hitboxes cause those are wonky right now and part of the problem with the attack. And if that isnt enough also put glide on aero and virus. It could have been that simple and she'd be perfectly viable.

I mostly agree with the rework, aside from the mode switch penalty (there are so many ways to make class changing less obnoxious while still keeping some form of penalty to prevent abusive switching, like giving her a cast time to change during which she would be vulnerable, so she'd have to pick ker moments to change carefully) and the complete debuff removal (aside from a very few attacks). Now don't get me wrong, old Y'shtola was waaaaay too debuff centric, but I feel this has gone the opposite direction and got rid of one of her trademarks completely. They could have just made the traps and dash attacks give debuff ad the rest be classic zoning tools. Just my two cents on this. I find it to be mostly a good thing anyway, but still lacks some identity, and the class system just doesn't do much in that respect.

but giving Cleric stance a cast time wouldnt even be very faithful. it was always a instant switch, it works exactly how its supposed to be (except it only increased healing/damage)

Why is Y'Shtola having Thaumaturge class skills so controversial among some fans? I don't play FFXIV and I kinda like how they incorporated 2 mage classes from the game into Dissidia now.

It's controversial to her character in FFXIV because she's a Conjurer, and nothing else. Granted, she has exclusive skills that other Conjurers and White Mages don't have, with Spiritual Ray (basically her personal Limit Break) and Aetherial Pulse (her own version of an Astrologian skill called Collective Unconscious) but she has never exhibited Black Magic usage. Granted, in Shadowbringers, it appears that she has switched to a Black Mage now.

Changing class will make all projectile and traps dissapear. *CHANGING CLASS WILL MAKE ALL PROJECTILE AND TRAPS DISSAPEAR!!!!!* How the hell they managed to fuck the most important reason to switch playstyle in the middle of a fight.

I love this new moveset. Her BRV inputs actually make sense now that they are properly organized into 2 forms. Great rework. I also like how Stone isn't bullshit anymore now that it has knockback, and now she has actual, fair, non-bullshit team-combo abilities like Fire, Firaga, Blizzaga, Aeroga, etc. Thundaga is also really interesting since it's non-contact, can't wait to see its application. The only things I don't like are how she loses traps and EX during style change, and that she has 2 Searching HP Attacks. Lance of Life was one of the only mostly unique attacks (apart from Kain's Gungnir, which is worse in range) she had that was worthwhile, and now it's gone. It was so satisfying hitting with it and it rewarded you with HP when you did, it's a real shame that it's gone. The trap HP was improved a ton though, since you can only have 2 at a time (reducing HP spamming), and you can charge to send it further away (great for sniping). And obviously, Spiritual Ray is actually useful now. Really wish we had Lance of Life instead of Scion's Holy, but like I said, overall fantastic rework. I can't wait to play her again!

I just came back to this game today and I didn't know they completely changed her. I tried to play her like I use to do and it didn't feel the same. I really hate this rework and I wish they never did it. Now I gotta drop her because she is somebody that I use to know.

Oso Ramírez Collective Unconscious and Aetherial Pulse are two different things. Aetherial Pulse is Y’shtolas signature skill she uses that provided a vulnerability down buff, whilst the AST skill provides dmg reduction and some healing.

I’m just coming back to this video after a while and I’m mad at this rework. She’s just so mediocre at everything. Why pick her when you can pick any other marksman that can do exactly what she does except better. (Minus the healing) She can lock down (not nearly as well as ulti, terra, rage shanty, or Yuna) She has zoning capabilities (Not nearly as good as Emperor, Non rage Shanty, Golbez or Yuna) She does everything alright but nothing fantastic. Which would be okay if you weren’t punished for switching classes but you are so lol. This change still makes me mad to this day.

Not gonna lie; having all of her traps disappear when she does the stance change seems really counter-intuitive. Coupled with the EX skill cooldown penalty, it seems like you get punished for using this new mechanic.

It had to happen since she's currently garbage tier. I think she'll be very awkward to play though, due to the penalties of Cleric Stance. For example, you'd want to have access to both Aero and Blizzard II during neutral, but changing stance will erase her magic. Changing often is even discouraged due to lowering her ex gauge. So you'd rather stay in one stance the whole time, which would be Thaumaturge since it offers the most utility. Or you switch often and just never use her unique ex skills. I'll have to play her myself to judge the rework, but so far she just seems very awkward. That said, it's better than being garbage.

I love how biased they are. Y'shtola and Lightning get 5 Brave attacks per form, while Onion Knight gets 2 full movesets. Terra's Meteor was ruined in the last patch and Onion Knight 's is untouched. They ruined both of Rinoa's viable HP attacks to trash but ignore her 2 bad ones. Ultimecia's search light has 3x the area,same speed and now cancels faster than Rinoa's. This is on top of her unnecessary super buff. What a coincidence that Rinoa and Terra get ruined while Bartz,Vaan,Tidus,Sephiroth and Vayne continue to break the game.

The point of onion knight is he has to suffer early game and after he died with onion knight who has the weakest moveset. and onion knight can't switch class as he please, his ex skill cooldown is 90 seconds and the general moveset of onion encourage sticking with one job than switching them. even with Spirit Surge, he has to constantly suffer in onion knight form more often. Compare to Y'shtola and Lightning who can switch form at any time. About Rinoa. "ruined both of Rinoa's viable HP attacks to trash but ignore her 2 bad ones" you mean Meteor that got nerf because it has the longest range out of all wave attack and still has big hitbox. and Meltdown which got range buff in Angel form and dodges cancelable from charge and Apocalypse which also got range buff in Angel form. Ultimecia's Hell Judgment has more range and bigger area. but starting frames is longer than Rinoa's Apocalypse and Apocalypse can match the range of Hell Judgment in Angel mode (Rinoa mostly has faster gliding speed than Ultimecia in general) Also, 3 of 5 characters you mention doesn't even use regularly in a competitive scene

myjy it goes by rank. I feel like most people are in the higher ranks so it might be hard for a starter to find matches
