Yes it is.. Respect for him.. What he said is true.. I am a silat practitioner.. Silat has pencak it means foot work and body alignment and posture.. So.. My silat master teach me this drill for a freaking 2 years.. Only this drill.. Not same concept and method..with boxing coz silat has its own movement and this drill depends on silat movement of itself.. But.. Because of that training it make u easily adapt to your opponents what kind of stuff he bring to coming at u.. And this dude make an easy explaination to it.. Make me easily to understand what he actually explain... Good stuff from marvin

The entire series of these videos are great but I got to say that this one in particular ties it all together for me. This one pretty much shows you what you should be doing in this stance throughout a fight.
@scholageemusic93736 жыл бұрын
How comfortable you feel while your in your stance has everything to do with confidence, focus, accuracy. etc. it doesn't matter how great you think you can punch block etc. Bruce Lee's main idea was asking his students how do they feel. Once you feel unbalanced and off thats when you should be worried about getting harmed.

That's why guys need to learn how to throw punches moving in all 4 directions. Guys need to have about 9 different punches in their arsenal at a minimum and should be able to throw all 9 punches moving in all four directions. It's all about footwork and guys need to be able to throw punches out of a rhythm or what you call the boxers shuffle. Boxing out of the shuffle or rhythm keeps you flexible from absorbing full impact from punches. And it keeps your head moving in a significant margin. You have to practice moving and punching in all 4 directions so it becomes natural. Your footwork can get you in trouble and get you out of trouble. It all starts with footwork and ends with footwork. If you can't move you can't catch the other guy, and if you can't move you can't get away from the other guy.

@RaneBane7 жыл бұрын
Ricky taotofi jab more. Jab with weights. Put your gloves on and make a fist against the wall then extend your jab out and hold as hard as you cans for ten seconds against the wall like you're trying to move it then shake it out. Jab more.
@Omer118 жыл бұрын
Hi Marvin, what if I am a southpaw, should I keep going to his left ?
@FightStrategistMMA8 жыл бұрын
If you're rival is a southpaw, you keep going to your left to force the front foot. For a orthodox fighter, try to gain outside position but be willing to concede it i and work inside
@Omer118 жыл бұрын
FightStrategistMMA Thanks for the answer, what I also got from your teachings is that footwork is critical. Would you please add a video of footwork drills which we can keep doing till we master good movements on the ring? BTW, am a conventional boxing athlete not an MMA fighter and I will be having a charity fight soon here in Japan. Thx again, your doing great job out there.

I still don't understand? so the back foot should do the moving and the front foot is stationary?
@hack-comic9 жыл бұрын
+Alex Charles I think both feet move and in this case the left foot would do the pushing off when the right foot goes to lead. But I think the point of the tactic is to get your left foot on the outside of the opponents so that he is essentially forced to dance your direction. His right hand is obviously too far away from you to land so in the event he wants to take the chance and step to his left to set up his own right hand, you can wait for him and pop your own right hand.  What I don't get is, if you have the opponent in this position, he also has you in this position. So this would only work if you are effectively leading the action in the ring. Still great things to think about in terms of foot work stradegys to play with.
@dayleclarke44338 жыл бұрын
+victor trevino it's not static though, right? You make the move to get the reaction and that's when you have the advantage. So it always starts directly in front of each other
@ken-mb5cp5 жыл бұрын
I think his main point is to remain balanced and not to give up your balance for the sake of landing a punch.

He kinda has a point but his advice on footwork is kinda weird since it goes against the fundamentals of boxing footwork. Don't cross your legs.
@9thDrunkenGod6 жыл бұрын
When he pivots to his right with his left foot 1st the risk outweighs the reward with all his weight on the front foot no?
@MrPatspp6 жыл бұрын
No legs crossing is a way much easier manner of making a novice "understand" the concept of balance more than explaining angles and advanced footwork. So, the "no crossed legs" advise is so you don't lose balance when moving and as Jonathan here mentions, if you turn the hips, the feet will move properly so no need to cross.
