As a Richmond man, I’m stoked. Some insight on our “bolters”: Hotton is speed and agility personified, and is the perfect Bolton replacement, however he’s got a lot more upside because he’s defensively sound. Loves to tackle and apply pressure, which I feel Bolton lacks in his game. The ACL may seem an issue short term, but with the plethora of picks we had it was somewhat smart to pull the trigger early. I had him going to GWS. Faull is confusing a lot of people, however what he possesses ahead of other Key Forwards in this draft is his contested work. He loves to wrestle and jostle for position, whereas Armstrong (who we took later) is more of a on the lead type of forward, and has longer range. I feel they’re going to complement each other well. All our other picks were minty clean, and the heist of North’s R1 Pick was icing on the cake!

It is wild that people are already talking about M. Reid going home because he wasn’t jumping around like crazy for being drafted. First of all, he probably was expecting to be drafted higher. Secondly, moving interstate is always a hard thing for a 18 year old bloke. Maybe he isn’t super excited now, but once he has settled in Perth and at the dockers, he wil be fine I reckon. Some people want to go back, but a lot stay at the club, just look at their list. Or maybe he is just more of a reserved and composed lad. Bo Allen and Murphy Reid are both absolute steals in this draft for me. Both clubs can be really happy with their first round picks.

Head scratcher us it ok let me ask do north need another midfielder with its first pick next year in a midfield stacked draft? As everyone has mentioned, the West Coast trade isn’t confusing at all when you realised they were playing Freo and Port against each other in the battle for Joe Berry. If that’s true about North offering their F1 pick, I’m surprised Freo didn’t take them up on it after missing out on Bo and Berry. If Murphy Reid doesn’t become the next Adam Cerra and succumb to homesickness (which based on his draft reaction, looked likely) then this pick could work, though Freo bat very deep in the midfield, and Reid would already be behind Serong, Brayshaw, Young, and then Johnson, Erasmus, maybe even Brodie and Fyfe for that last inside mid position. That said, we could try him as a Half Forward to start with. North deserve the criticism of that last deal, but picking up FOS at 2 will look good in hindsight if LDU doesn’t resign and McKercher gets a Godfather Tassie offer. Don’t know how they fit him into the side come round 1, unless they start him at half back like they did in Sheez and Colby’s first years, though you’d imagine Caleb Daniel would have a lock on one of those positions.

The value of a pick is completely different to every club. Getting a key forward in this year and putting work in now with Darling and Larkey could be huge for Whitlock - Or Logue, Corr etc if they make him a Key Back. No point waiting another year for a key position player if they liked the look of this one. Everyone gets far too caught up in value of picks, who knows what will happen next year, North might bounce up to 9th-12th on the ladder this year and factor in FS and academy, that pick might end up 9-13, could also end up with a round 1 priority pick if Davies-Uniacke leaves. Extremely happy with how North went on night 1 of the draft. FOS is a genuine star and takes the TT position to greater effect fir the calibre of player FOS is. ☑️ The Whitlock trade is a great for what North are after. Trading our F1st unlocks the premium needed to get into the first round and more so to get the man we're after. North's been heavily linked to the Whitlock brother's fir majority of tbe year and I wouldn't be surprised if we went after Jack too tbh. Sure it's most likely a top 6 pick. BUT that's another Midfielder. North don't need Midfielders after last night so by trading our F1st for a Tall Key position utility, Norths nailed it. Especially since Matt will most likely play as CHB to release Comben into the forward line. Then they'll just rotate as Utilities do. Crème de la crème selection right there and it's the bold risk we at North must be prepared to make.

Feels like North drafted Matt over Jack Whitlock because they intend to play him in defence? Certainly they were desperately short in that area this past season. Definitely a one-sided trade but I do think they need to get competitive sooner rather than later so they can compete with LDU/Simpkin/Xerri/Larkey/Zurhaar still in the side rather than having rising and then plateuing as those guys lose their edge - potentially also worried about taking too long and losing some of their younger talent to other rising teams.

@ I wonder if they will want to give up much more after giving away their future first. Maybe this is a line in the sands moment where they give up picks to get their people and this new chapter focused around who they have and they back them in. Fingers crossed they can make it work

@@rotuanti35 Looking at the North Melbourne list, they are pretty loaded after having tons of picks the past few years. They made their move this off-season by bringing In experience to pair with the kids. Moving out of next year's draft that is heavily compromised is not a terrible idea, but the main goal is to get those last few pieces into the side so they can get coached up, game experience and start working on winning games instead of winning the draft. I like their direction a lot and think they will finish outside the top 8.

Hawthorn future first and our future third for pick 28 and get shanahan or Whitlock. Then our pick 30 we get Tom gross

I believe North were panicking. They couldn’t find a good deal to trade down this draft, butwouldn’t “waste” the number 2 pick on a key defender so they offered a future first, but no one was willing to trade until Richmond. So they get a future 2 rounder as well as pick 27 in this years draft. I don’t know how comprised the next draft is but there is a big chance this future first will a top 8 if not top 4 pick. That is a hefty price they paid. Both WA’s clubs have done great imo. As well as Brisbane. Bids were matched later than they should have been. And Richmond of course, although that was to be expected.

@LomuHabana whitlock was rated 10 on norths draft board. And evidently they see higher value in getting Whitlock than a top pick in next year's,
@user-ln8we1ud9cКүн бұрын
Agree North have definitely panicked, they offered their future first to everyone club that's how desperate they were, but with each rejection the deal got worse and worse till eventually Richmond accepted the deal which had become heavily lopsided against North for a player who is project player at best, what a disaster!!!! NO way North rated Whitlock at pick 10 on their draft boards either, utter garbage from north supporters trying to sooth the wounds.
@user-ln8we1ud9cКүн бұрын
I feel sorry for Whitlock North fans will expect him to play like a top 5 pick poor kid, he is pick 27. North were desperate for key back. Worst trade I have seen in a long time.

The Tauru @2-6 thing was officially revealed as absurd. Folks are overrating the North trade thing, as North had the pick on the table with plenty of other clubs that didn't want it either & Richmond had already done North a big favor when they chose a Jake Stringer clone over Finn O'Sullivan.

You dont give up a top 5 pick for a raw unproven tall, its desperate FOMO stuff, Whitlock is a project player who will take years to develop and who knows how good he will be whereas there is a high chance the pick given up by North will be a star, dumb move and its ironic the main ones who think the move is good are North supporters in denial lol lol lol

@user-ln8we1ud9c it's not a top 5 pick yet, talk about bed-wetting and jumping at shadows. You are literally crying over hypotheticals, have a lie down mate

@@user-ln8we1ud9c You strike me as someone whose football analysis education extends to a teenage level understanding of supercoach. GWS weren't tempted in taking it at 18, 19 0r 24. You do know that Richmond knocked the pick back 4 times before they took it? If that's the case then where do you reckon they rate the pick? Let's wait & see what North does tonight.
