Eagles, Port, Tiges, Saints in my view smashed it - some with limited hands, one with every second pick basically, and a few sliders in there. Very happy with what we did last night.

The Tom Sims pick it is seen that Sims is a Ruck/Forward. A lot of mock drafts had us getting a Ruckman and Richmond view is Sims is the Player for that roll out of this Draft. We just about got everything Tall Forwards , Tall Back , Big Body Mids , and 2 small Forwards/Midfielders. Best Draft Ever from a Tiger point of View. I watch the livestream on Big Footy Tigercast Channel on KZbin and everyone was Shocked with that North Trade ? No one could believe that was happening? I think Big Footy Tigercast have just put on there channel a short video of the reaction of it today. But in the end if North wanted a Tall they had to find a way to get one and from what I heard they wanted the pick before to get Armstrong but Richmond where not letting that Go ? Good on North for having Balls to back themselves in for next Season. A+ Draft for Richmond 🏆17 🏆19 🏆20 🐅🐅🐅

Pretty clear overall winners in west coast, port and Richmond each getting positions of needs and highly touted players. West coast were in desperate need of adding some quality youth and with each of their first picks got players that definitely shouldn’t of been available, if anything it looked more likely shanahan and gross could’ve been taken with their first 2 selections. Davis was another really solid pick that seemed a steal. Allan should start in defence as a intercept defender and develop before moving into the midfield in a few years, gross starting half forward/midfield. Most importantly each of west coasts picks are pretty versatile and can play multiple positions, even shanahan can play as a key back. Really amazing port managed to steal both Whitlock and moraes, both expected to minimum be in the top 30 but even better selections considering berry and Whitlock have played the last few years together which hopefully limits the go home risk. Richmond got the high upside potential with their first 3 picks, getting Alger for a future 4th was incredible as he was considered with their first 8 picks. Sims was a shock but seems to be the key forward with the biggest point of difference as he played the second half of the year in the ruck, which is better than the tigers usual strategy of developing a ruck as a key forward. Faul was surprising but considering his late form and injuries to start the year they must be expecting a lot of development to come and again a different key forward from Armstrong and sims. Smillie has been rated as number 1 by a lot of recruiters both throughout the year and still currently, hotton and Trainor both were expected top 10 and maybe top 5 while Armstrong at 23 was a steal. 3 mids who can all play forward, 3 different key forwards with 1 playing in the ruck, 1 intercepting key back and a mid forward who can play in the air and on the ground. Positions of needs all across the ground with a lot of upside. Not to mention getting the 8 players they were targeting while affectively trading a future 2nd and future 4th for a potential top 5 pick next year.

Apart from Richmond, the Saints probably won the draft, value for picks (Boxshall, Dodson, Barret) and could possibly have taken the best player of the draft class in Alix Tauru. Positionally, the Saints only drafted ONE out and out Midfielder but, I think In this case, we did great with drafting best available and then trading back in to get list needs. Well done, St Kilda 👏 👍

Yeah Saints did very well in the end. I would have considered Hotton over Travaglia for that midfield spot, but he might not have been happy that they delisted his brother and Travaglia has scope to move into the midfield eventually.

Looking into Travaglia a bit more, he looks like a hard runner, who always follows up after his disposal. He will likely become a midfielder. Just from the short video I saw, he looks similar to Isaac Smith, fast with great endurance.

Totally agree Sid Draper looks like a gun. I have massive concerns over Finn O'Sullivan. I reckon North had a list of talls they wanted this year, and if Matt Whitlock was one, then it was a matter of getting a key position player this year, with their First rounder from next year. It is all about fast tracking. Hope Whitlock does well. Urqhart looks good, but is another mid for the logjam. I would be more excited if North had just taken Tauru. The best mark in the draft for mine. People are too focussed on the draft number, rather than the player, and what they can add to the team.

Was happy tigers went tall. Adding Sims is a point of difference as he can play forward/ruck. Still bolstered our midfield with Lalor, Smillie. Got some X factor in Hotton. Not sure about jonty Faull, just have to see how he goes. I think Armstrong was the best forward in the draft. Couldn’t believe we got him at 23.

Nice summary. I think StKilda, WC and Port are big winners. They did very well getting players i considered elite - some who seemed to drop in pick selection based on their power ratings. I'm a Tigers supporter. I'm still unsure about some of the selections. I would have loved 1 of the small forwards in Joe Berry or Oliver Hannaford or 1 of the tall defenders in Tauru or Travaglia. I'm unsure about Josh Smillie - big bustling midfielder yes, reasonable kick, can pinch hit in the forward - but concerned about his marking and competitive level. Only time will tell. Jonty Faull was a big surprise tonight, first of the key fowards and many rated him at #4 from that list. It was already known going in that Jonty was high on Richmonds list. Jonty might be the best all rounder of the key forwards. Good mark, competitive, good kick - smaller than the others but more mobile. Picked to fill the CHF role. Harry Armstrong - big slider but potentially the best key forward. At least his power rankings show that (but put into context, was also in the best team). Great kick and mark. Hopefully time (maturity) and the group around him can guide him to become the best of himself. Picked to play the deep FF. Thomas Sims - interesting pick. Jury is out - however i think he's seen as a mobile ruckman with a high leap, good mark and good kick. Very athletic and strong - can play forward but also in the same mold of Luke Jackson. Taj Hotton and Luke Trainor - injuries are a concern. Project players that need time - but great talent and skill on offer from both. Both were tracking for top 5-10 before hit with injuries. Only time will tell if the picks were worth it. But could be 200+ game careers. Here's hoping for the best. Jasper Alger - happy with the pick. He was on Tigers list and we were lucky to still get him at pick 58. Small forward ... position we need. Wish we picked Berry instead but Alger could still step into the role of a good competitive small forward. Sam Lalor - potential champion of the game. Needs to work on his conditioning and fitness/flexibility. Needs a solid preseason to trim a little but given his injuries, understandable. The sky the limits ... only time will tell where he ends up. The future is bright ... another good year on clever targeted draft picks and a trade or 2 and Tigers could be in the 8 again in 2027. Challenging for a flag as early as 2028-2029.

I find it hilarious that somehow these narratives are all true: a) Levi Ashcroft is the ‘clear’ #1 pick in the draft b) Brisbane paid a few picks in the 30s and 40s for the best player in the draft c) Richmond won the draft 😂

Whilst I'm disappointed as a Bombers fan, we didn't get our hands on Shanahan or Armstrong I'm happy that we built a chest for next year's draft. We retain Melbourne's F1 and add St Kilda F2 at a cost of our own F3+F4 good business. Likely we have 4 picks inside top 35; we have to sacrifice to gain somewhere else. Otherwise, I'm happy with our draft haul didn't know too much about the other 4 guys after Kako. Also, Lucca Grego may have been half linked to Essendon but this didn't amount to much.

Congrats on meeting your goal mate!!! I'll push back on your wording their for North mate. You say log jam of midfielders, I call it depth. Obviously North as a club was into Tauru heavily and perhaps they did try trading down with pick 2. Absolute is though, they did their due diligence and opted to select FOS which was the right call for pick 2. Best available. The club clearly sees the midfield as a ever evolving part to what they're building and by drafting FOS North now replace TT who was an unfortunate situation that resulted in a decision being made for the better. FOS is a big ☑️ North paid a premium for landing Whitlock and frankly there's more pros to outweigh the cons so people can dribble about it all they like, North got who they wanted and that's what counts. Way too soon to call it a success or failure so in terms of what North got with where their rebuild is at it's a good get. ☑️ Urquhart speaks to Norths evolving depth. Wouldn't of been my choice as their were some other good key position players available. However Luke is a prime example that North does want to drip feed the midfield moving forward. And Urquhart seems like a real inside-out bull. Freakishly strong with a good burst of pace to go with his defensive mindset ☑️ Fun fact: Gavin did in fact play for North and even FOS's dad for 9 ganes haha. Pagan gave him walking papers waaaay back in the day but what a good story and link for both pkayers to the club. Been looking Forward to River Stevens for the past 2yrs. He's a hard two way running small forward, though not like his old man in stature still bleeds the overwhelming pressure. He's got a good goal sense and knows where to find the goaks so there's alot of promise for River in making a push for that 2nd pairing with Paul Curtis in our F50 line-up. 5 F/S players at North now in L-mac, Scott, Harvey, Archer and now River Stevens. Its a full house haha. ☑️ Overal mate I think most to all clubs got a good draft haul. No one really lost as everyone walked away with promising talent across the board of a real depth heavy draft. I'm happy for my Roo's and think we're in a very good space heading into 2025.

Only reason i think that Sydney didn't match is they had Riak very high on their board and i think they want guys that can lockdown defenders rather than interceptors given that Blakey is there and Cochran would play a similar role to him but without the Kicking ability. Good for the game that this has happened and finally a potential go him reversal for the first time in a while. I believe Jarrod Witts is the only other metro Sydney player on a non-Sydney list.

Sims will be our Ruck Forward who will be the true longterm replacement for Tom Lynch. He finished top 10 in agility and vertical jump so that athleticism will allow him the flexibility to get around the ground (a trend for rucks). I look at Joe Daniher this year and see Sims as fitting that mould longterm, and really its a clear hole in our squad (Samson is just not athletic but also can't keep a mark). I believe Richmond kept the pick as they see Sims as a missing piece for a future premiership squad, who need this kind of player to compete in September, where teams get found out without bigs that are competitive and flexible (i.e. Sims and Faull). I see the vision, and like M. Whitlock to Roos, love that we have him in the door already and developing as part of our next premiership squad.
@Ben-ji-man

On the rest of our pickups - Lalor and Smillie bulls who will get contested footy, Hotton = Bolton replacement with more outside accumulation, Trainor intercept defender to replace Broad, Armstrong strong ability to get separation and clunks serious pack marks (leave him deep, let Faull get up the ground, compete and get ball to ground), Alger fits another hole of an athletic medium forward with huge upside, another guy who dominated the combine. He is also a december kid so has a year of development on many others in the draft. Have retread some points already made but hopefully this gives some Tigers fans an idea of the vision for our pickups, I see it, I love it, GO TIGES!!

What i dont get with North Melbourne, is, if it is true that they offered their future first to EVERY club, starting from Pick 8, how in the hell does GWS (Picks 15,16,21) NOT take that Future First?? Even pick 15 and a later pick wouldve got the deal done by the sounds of it 🤦 i honestly think, this is a scenario where NM wouldve benefitted from Live-Player Trading on draft night, the NBA has done it for years, classic example, Kobe Bryant was drafted AND Traded to the Lakers on that Draft night. Maybe this will be the next step in the drafting system, next year clubs can trade picks 2 YEARS in advance from 2025 onwards.

Goes to show how highly clubs rated specific players in this draft. North Melbourne for example rated Matt Whitlock as a top 15 player on their draft board. They paid the premium in a potential top 6 pick on 2025 for pick 27 and a F2nd which is certainly overs at face value. From pick 8 all the way to 27. Clubs were very lock tight for this year's draft picks.
