i always assumed martin was in there because he directly influenced finn’s life in a negative way, and with finn presumably being the reincarnation of the essence of “pure good”. obviously this only solves the ‘why was he in there’ part of the question, since we don’t directly know what he did specifically, but we can assume after he lost finn, he thought he killed his own son; so maybe that’s what got him thrown in there? obviously we could just say that he got amnesia which warped his personality and he coped with that by being evil, but I’m personally partial to the idea that his cosmic crime is something directly related to finn or the lack of his presence in finns life. (please excuse any typos, im writing this quickly on my tablet when i should be drawing concept art. tldr: my theory is that because he affected finn’s upbringing he got jailed. does anyone know whether farmworld finn knows martin?)

And for the question abt Farmworld Finn, he lives with his parents. His father seems to slightly resemble Martin in a way, but what truly grabs my eye is the single string of hair on his head.

I think Orgalorg being exempt from being caught for cosmic crimes is due to predating the universe itself. His rules are grandfathered in from a time before the rules existed, thus being a cosmic permission slip. It's like owning certain things before they're illegalized, and being allowed to keep them but not make more.

@@TrueLocalEnthusiast I would tend to agree with this thought. However, we know that the Lich 'wanted' to go. The Citadel was his escape from Prismo's domain, a place he was otherwise completely trapped in. We then see the Lich infect the Citadel and the guardians (which if not for Finn would have lead to an escape in one way or another). Given the aftermath I'm more inclined to believe if he didn't want to go, they likely would not have been able to make him. There was no point resisting the guardian in Prismo's space because the Lich would still be stuck there. I would also say this thought process could apply to Orgalorg as well. For Orgalorg though, with the timeline unclear it could go either way, either existing before the Citadel or defeating/avoiding guardians until being banished by Grob Gob Glob Grod. (While on that thought, I feel the people of Mars have more to do with the Citadel than we currently know)

about Martin’s imprisonment, we see in the BMO special that he is kicking around in the drift, which takes place during Finn’s adolescent years. It could be that Martin was one of the conspirators to destroy the drift that got him locked up, but the Drift doesn’t seem to be planetary level and Martin is in different clothes in the Citadel. He probably escalated his crimes after being ejected off the Drift to an actual planetary level of swindling.

I think Martin didn't intentionally do a cosmic crime, or at least probably didn't know what he was truly getting into. Deep, deep down Martin is a good person, but as we saw in the BMO Distant Lands special, he has issues and often clings to powerful groups of scumbags just to survive, going from one group to another, ditching them when they outlive their usefulness to him. If I remember correctly, one of the writers didn't say specifically what landed Martin in The Citadel, only that "He conned harder and harder until he did something he shouldn't have." He probably didn't directly, intentionally do a cosmic crime, but contributed in such a way that the guardians saw it as a technicality and roped him up too since he was involved. It doesn't help that Adventure Time's universe is very strange in how it functions. Some unbelievably important entities are just... around, and as we saw with the fact that you can simply wake up Prismo's corporeal body to get sent to the citadel for eternity, it's likely Martin didn't even know what he was getting into. I wouldn't be surprised if he just stepped on some sort of cosmic bug or something. I mean, his stature and position when he's trapped in the crystal kind of hint toward this. He looks confused, or maybe even slightly regretful.

Here's a good question about the elementals, and the lich. How was it, that Patients Saint Pim talked about how she, and her fellow elementals of their respected time life, was starting to see visions of the future, about a cataclysmic event, being the lich? As to that, bubblegum having a mental vision of the lich, and introduced Finn and Jake to the lich; basically. But in the end, of that episode. Princess bubblegum, was possessed by the lich. That raises the question of what exactly the purpose is between the elementals, the comets, and Golb. 🤔 My basic question is, bubblegum is a elemental, but how was the lich able to possess her body? The answer seems obvious, being that the lich also possessed death basically, though it feels like there is more to it than that. 🤔

The thing about the speculative timeline is that orgalorg was stated to have not contacted the planet that he did, in thousands of years, not millions. Which would put the creation of the citadel in a more recent time placement. This may point to the primordial wars still have been happening up to after orgalorgs defeat at the hands of Glob, or perhaps even still happening, but in a part of the story world that we do not get to see or hear about.

Considering that the King of Mars was willing to put Magic Man to death for his crimes (implying that advanced societies in the AT universe are not opposed to killing people who are particularly bad), it seems odd that being encased in the Citadel could be intended as a penalty for beings who commit crimes as severe as destroying entire planetary civilizations. I think it is actually supposed to be a holding unit for powerful beings awaiting their final judgement. It is likely that, like the Time Room, it exists outside of the normal flow of time, which is why those held there must be in stasis, since they might be there for an arbitrary time period depending on how much time passes in their home universe. So Martin might not actually have committed a cosmic crime worthy of being held for eternity, he's just a suspect awaiting trial. Another possibility is that it is there to contain beings that CANNOT be reliably destroyed because they will just reincarnate.

I'd like to support your statement here by suggesting that perhaps the reason the Cosmic Guards didnt go after Orgalorg might have been bc they couldn't find him as Gunter. I also think that the chaos he wrought might have been somewhat exaggerated by the elder alien. I mean, if Gunter and Orgalorg are intrinsically the same, well, Gunters just a prankster. The consumption of the Catalyst Comet or the actions thereafter might've earned him the retribution of the Cosmic Guardians but otherwise, he mayve just been a cosmic prankster. Also, I relate to Martin's character, oddly enough- I'm inclined to agree w your theory, that he must've done something inadvertently to gain their attention. Hes a scoundrel, sure but he is also a victim of circumstances- he was too good for the Island, that being his circumstance. He would've stayed w Minerva, I believe, and been satisfied w that life but he couldn't go back- I'd say, bc of the Guardian but also, guilt. He had bridges to burn. I wish we had more context on Martin's character- who knows? Maybe he was trying to save a planet and got wrapped up in its destruction- while he is a scoundrel, I cant help but sense something redeeming.

There is not much to say but i'd say guardians just didn't want to mess with orgalorg Since we all know he is a Primordial monster and as we know, When they took Lich to the citadel, he literally ripped everyone and everything in there, so it's just possible that Guardians are scared of orgalorg, and thats why they didn't do anything to stop him

the citadel exist because of existence, to balance out existence. if you existed as a result of existence then the citadel guardian can prosecute you. if you existed before existence you could see some different results

Just a quick theory but what if martins cosmic crime was him killing one of the prior citadel guardians I ask this because how would he really know how their blood works? How would he know they’d heal him or keep,him young It could’ve been a lucky guess but Martin doesn’t seem to be the kind to make those, it also could be that the prisoners were all conscious during the time in the crystals but it’s never fully explained Just a dumb theory but I feel like it’s an interesting one, we’ve seen Martin have experience fighting off giant super weapons before
