So true...I lived in Europe, the USA and Canada now and I always get that question, "Why don't you look Mexican?" My answer is always What should mexicans look like? Oh boy that stops the questioning. People forget that being Mexican is a Nationality with such a broad diversity in ethnic groups (e.g., Indigenous, Mestizo, African, European, Middle Eastern, Eastern European, etc) and the truth is that the melting pot in Mexico already happened 200 years ago, and more new arrivals continue to come every year who bring more diversity to the population. Go north and you will find large Mexican-Chinese communities and Mexican Menonites in Chihuaha, Guadalajara region French and German descendants in los Altos de Jalisco, Central Mexico has descendants of Spaniards, French and German with Indigenous roots, and the main capital has a large Korean-Mexican community and Eastern European and Mid-East Jewish communities, south west coast in Oaxaca Afro-Mexicans, east coast in Veracruz has descendants of Afro-Mexicans, Spanish, Lebanese, Syrian, Italians, and of course local indigenous groups, and if you go to Chiapas you will find one of the largest communities with descendants of Mexican-Japanese people. So, I would say that even though the majority of Mexican citizens are descendants of Indigenous people, not everyone in Mexico is monochromatic, homogenous, or share the same ethnic background despite the fact that might seem the same externally but something for sure, they all share the same-strong national identity. It is indeed a melting pot that happened years ago while in the USA is just happening now. Great video, thanks again!!!

I worked as a waitress in USA. Believe me, every single day I was asked about my ethnicity or country of origin or my family background. I´m white, green eyes, and they couldn´t believe it. When I answered "I´m from Mexico," people replied "New Mexico?" and I always told them: "No. The Old Mexico." One day someone at college asked me: "Where are you from" (We were inside an elevetor and he asked me which floor and I answered the floor number that I was going to) and because I was so tired of the same question asked for about 4 years back then I answered: "I´m from planet earth." Then, I found out that he was a teacher, hahaha. Also, people often said that my accent wasn´t Mexican (and it is, I´m Mexican), that it was european. Something weird that happened is that my English conversation teacher (I took English as a Second Language classes) was from South Africa and well, I guess that I took his accent; so people said something like, "there´s white people in South Africa and your teacher taught like that..." That´s far away from the truth, because my teacher was black, teaching a white Mexican the English language. Something wierd, only in USA I´m considered a "white Mexican," in México I´m just another Mexican and that´s awesome... Hahahaha.

Hi there! I was once asked by an American guy in Pennsylvania: "Do you belong to a tribe?" - I just stared at him annoyed, and told him "NO! We live in cities like yours, with different architecture inherited from Spain" - Now I recall that as hilarious; however, next time I will ask back "Where are your druids? Which Celtic tribe do you belong to?". Another time I was asked by a few Japanese lab mates if I were of Japanese ancestry "No, as I know. It's because we have ancestors in common". Another time an old American man asked me if I were from Germany - "No, I'm Mexican". Back in Mexico (Monterrey city metro area), some Mexicans took me as Korean. "No, I'm not".

When I went to Canada, I some people who I barely met there asked me if I was saying lies about my nationality because Im tall and I'm no fat, short and brown. I was a little annoyed about those stupid questions. Also, they asked me about the earthquakes and how our houses can resist because they thought that we are living in mud houses. Dude, those people need to learn, is surprising that they are saying and proud to be "1st world country" but they are super ignorant! Even a Mexican child knows more about other countries than an first world country adult. Annoyingly

Then when the class was finished, someone asked me if I got bored in my hometown where people have only horses to go around. I thought it was funny how this person misunderstood.
