This is a different type of poker chip trick. See how many stacked poker chips it takes to reach the height of one poker chip standing on its side. If you have never seen this trick before, you won't believe how amazing it is.
This is the same for custom poker chips and casino poker chips alike. Both custom chip sets and casino chip sets seem to be made in this same ratio.
Well maybe the cheap thin plastic chips don't work here, but any type of professional chips like clay poker chips will work.

​@@truepokerdealer well it's easy, for example when the dealer counting the pot. could just take a chip vertically and start to take groups of horizontal chips of X value beside to the veritcal one, as you know that are exactlly 12 chips, so on and on, its alot faster than count them one by one, and same to the players. finally you sum all the groups of 12 chips, multipie for the X value of the chips and that's it, I think would be faster, specially when are alot of chips out there on the table

@@hydralibertaria9492 That's a great idea in theory. It makes me question whether you are familiar with what professional poker dealers currently do. A professional dealer is skilled at stacking chips and breaking the stacks into vertical stacks of 20 chips and then breaking them down quickly. I think in the end, that is still faster than what you came up with. Definitely great idea though and I am still thinking about a scenario where it could be applied within the current casino procedure!

Here I was thinking it was a secret way of quickly stacking chips in stacks of 10, because originally i thought the answer was 10. But in the end it was just a science mind bender question. But knowing it's 12, I guess you can still use this to quickly get stacks of 10 counted out, just do this then remove 2 chips.

Not really hard to work out though. Average chip thickness is between 3-4mm and a standard chip is 39mm diametre unless you have oversized chips (43mm).

Why does casino in first place allow gamblers to take chips outside? The casino can not hold track of it, and people fake chips or sell on ebay. So stupid casino rule. Should be illegal

Thanks for the comment! I would say at any given time there are probably about $100,000 in black chips ALONE that each major casino has allowed players to take home. Black chips are worth $100 each. That's $100,000 that players have given the casino to have those chips and it only cost the casino a maximum of $1,500 to get those black chips made. Over the course of every year, casinos make millions just on players bringing chips home because of this. And despite what you think, it's incredibly difficult to make believable fake chips. Allowing players to take chips home is a very easy and profitable side business for casinos.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. That make me think about it: Your eyes are right. Because the front of the chips are further away from your eyes than the front, they appear smaller. Take a ruler an close one eye. Then, put the chip in your hand and measure the middle of the chips, while holding the ruler in front of the chips. The difference for my 4cm chips is about 2mm. These are the rules of perspective. You can do the same with a poker card, for example.

Yeah but usually stacks are 10 & 20. So while it might help in counting it's not exact to a stack. That is unless there's casinos that do 12 chip stacks that I haven't heard about. Nonetheless, I was aware how it would help but not that it was 12 chips. Now I know. Cool fact, thanks.

Didn t knew that. But my question is that all chips thickness is the same? Maybe other chips are thinner or thicker. And also want to ask you if there is a standard weight of a casino chip? Is it 9 grams? Ty

Every chip set I have ever tried this with is about the same thickness! Standard casino chip weight is between 9g and 10.5g. Home chips are between 8g and 14g.

What you're saying is that diameter=12xthickness, which is useless in the game where stacks are made to 20. The diameter was standardized to 39mm and chips want to approximate 10g, so when you factor in the density of fired clay, you can find the thickness. Obviously clay density varies widely with origin and firing process, which is the reason there is some variation in weight or chip thickness between manufacturers, but the felt on a poker table should diminish that effect. All this to say the diameter of a chip had to equal some number of chips (if you have paper chips, that number is around 400).

Technically the flattened 2d image we see *really is* taller than it is wide. This is because we are looking up at the top chip but looking down at the bottom chip, so the circumstance of both effectively creates straight lines on the sides and bulging curves on the top and bottom. The border of the sides of this flattened 2d outline is from a greater depth than the top and bottom borders of the circular chips extending towards you. Imagine laying flat on the sidewalk in front of a cylindrical building with a diameter of 100 feet and a height of 100 feet, you're 1 foot away. You're looking up at basically a 90° angle to see the top, but side to side the building curve bends out of sight after just a few feet. If you were 0 feet away, you would technically see no width in either direction and infinite height.
