There's actually one flaw in the movie that I haven't seen anyone mention yet - while Liu Kang sparing Shang Tsung seems noble on paper wouldn't that mean that Shangs trapped souls would still be stuck with their fate just because Liu found more satisfaction in letting him live with knowing that he was defeated? I think that's one of many things that the 1995 really nailed is that Liu did give Shang the opportunity to surrender during their last fight, but still demanded that he free all of the trapped souls. In Battle of the Realms it was more of a "oh well, too bad so sad" scenario lol.

@Chandler zzstu Leslie I did feel bad for my boy Kung, no one should be able to catch and use Kung Lao’s hat on him, but it is Shao Kahn, so it’s kinda debatable, only Kung Lao should have been able to catch or dodge his hat as Shao Kahn threw it at him, and this is a master Shaolin Monk we are talking about here, yet Shao Kahn has centuries of experience and a crazy amount of inner power to probably be able to do what he did to Kung Lao. I am conflicted with how Kung’s death was handled here, and it was better than Live Action Mortal Kombat 2021 death that he had by Shang Tsung. Being killed by Shao Kahn should be an accolade in itself. The politics did kinda suck yes, but I am glad how Shao Kahn was portrayed here and Shinnok too.

Mortal Kombat 11 was a bust and got very boring for me very fast, and supposedly it was going to be the longest MK game to keep getting updates and upgrades, but sadly, it was that boring and time wasting (no pun intended) that Netherrealm pulled the plug on it already and are now looking at their next game, either Mortal Kombat 12 or Marvel vs. DC maybe? (One can hope) In terms of the animated movies, I think they are pretty good, not great, but they are very entertaining and it’s awesome to see the characters that we all played as and grew to love that were presented in those animated movies. So I still say that I am glad that we are getting anything MK related for the time being, because there were times when we didn’t get anything Mortal Kombat anymore, and it was after Armageddon, which was a very sad time. There were no more MK video games, no more MK movies, comics, NOTHING. After Armageddon, I legit thought that Mortal Kombat was finally dead and buried, even with MK vs. DC right after a few years later, it still felt like a dead franchise that needed DC to keep it alive, and then after MK vs. DC, some years had passed with no MK news whatsoever. Then finally we got a bad ass new looking Mortal Kombat video game trailer for PS3 and XBOX 360, and of course it was Mortal Kombat 9, and the rest is history.

Being a general would actually demand less respect and loyalty than a princess. IMO, the highest ranking, most experienced and achieved military general is a prized guard dog compared to a princess. I’m not too big on MK lore, but I feel like Kitana has always been the opposite of the ‘soft, delicate woman’ one would assume for a princess (y’know, despite being a mind-controlled/manipulated damsel in distress in half the games she’s in). Heck, she’s basically a military general in MK11, leading the tarkatans, osh-tekk, shokan, and Erron Black (why was he still there?) against Shao Kahn, while never dropping the title of princess, even getting promoted to Kahn.

Keep in mind we have had plenty of comic book movies and tv shows and there have been a lot of great shows based on comic characters. Poor execution can cause anything to fail. They're going to adapt it regardless because there's money involved, so it makes sense to do it in the best way possible. A show gives them more time to put the story in they desire.

Everytime i think MK can't get any worse in terms of storytelling something one ups it big time. Battle of the Realms is what you get when you tell a big fan of a franchise to write a script and tell him it needs to be ready in 15 minutes. Because there are a lot of throwbacks to previous MK games, but they don't have any setup or context behind them.

They have destroyed the lore. Everithing is scorpion-centric. Kung Lao appears as a dope, Liu Kang is always saved by scorpion (NEVER HAPPENED IN THE LORE), Shinnok beat the shit out of a giant dragon and then Is beaten by a punch in the head (obviously by scorpion,Who NEVER fought Shinnok in the lore)...... This is idiotic. This entire franchise is crap.

It's a shame my favorite character, Kuai Liang, in the whole series since my first MK game, MK4, was reduced to just being angry. I actually liked the original timeline's take and even the newer one that showed he was willing to be more forgiving towards Hanzo. He was always supposed to be more calm and collected, even though he cares about what became of his brother. The inconsistent power issue has been a problem since the more cinematic story modes has started, and I would think a movie might be better structured to show more consistency than character chapters, but I guess not. I also hate how the movies just kill off a bunch of characters and barely develop them at all. Same thing happened in MK 2021 with Nitara. And to the villains coming out unscathed, some of the Earthrealmers like Liu Kang and Johnny Cage not killing makes sense, but people like Kuai Liang and Scorpion shouldn't have a problem. They're assassins after all.

Why did they gave Shinnoks Onagas motive searching for the kamidogu? Feels like shinnok took onagas place and the lui Kuei master was shunjinko. He got deceived to retrieve the last kamidogu to shinnonks. It’s like deception all over again with the main characters replaced!

I honestly liked the movie more than most MK movies, but I cannot stress enough how the biggest problem was painfully short fights and no fleshing out of the new characters. Had they taken out the last scene and used the spare time to fix that, it could have been a slam dunk.

Just something to establish how dangerous he is! The best of all would probably have been him fighting Kung Lao at the Shaolin Temple (instead of a generic monster) and dominating that fight, and then he loses to Kung Lao in the tournament. That way we'd actually get some investment in Kung Lao in this movie at the same time.

One: There actually is a spider-god that chose Peter. Peter is never made aware of this until really late into his story, and it's honestly an interesting part that makes it weird, but it's primarily there to justify why so many of his villains are also based on animals. But the fact that he had no idea he was chosen is an interesting part. Two: Yes. That whole thing about making Lui Kang know that he's the chosen one was stupid. It makes no sense that he would know that he's the chosen one. If anything, Liu Kang should either have no clue that he's the chosen one, or he should be scared about being the chosen one or fearing that he won't be able to live up to the idea of being the chosen one. That he won't live up to Raiden's expectations. That self-doubt would have been a really interesting aspect to his character.

The spider God aspect was introduced in the mid 2000s and was left ambiguous in the original story, so that's why it's not talked in most renditions of spiderman. Liu kang is the chosen one as far as him being chosen representative for shaolin monks, this movies interpretation is drastically odd.

I heavily disagree. Every MK series that has been made has been pretty bad, and I would say that most of the movies are really good (basically all of them other than Annihilation are really good in my opinion.) They either need to make the all the movies super long or people need to realize that it’s impossible for every character to be fully developed, and, for the most part, they try to focus on the most popular ones or characters with the most depth to them. Sure, some characters don’t get to do as much as they should (Kung Lao, Kitana, Jade), but most of the characters they choose to make jobbers ARE jobbers in the games, whether you like to admit that or not. Would I like for them to focus more on characters like my favorite, Kabal? Yes. Do I understand why they don’t? Yes. Why? Because, despite him being my favorite character, I’m willing to admit that he has basically no personality outside of MK9. Do I think Kung Lao should have been better utilized in BOTR? Yes. Do I think they should have given him more to do with Liu Kang before they killed him, so we actually understand why Liu Kang cares so much about his death? Yes. Do I think killing him was a mistake? No. Why? Because, despite how popular and interesting of character he is, he never really did anything important across the entire series. There is no reason not to kill him off early, and, since this is Mortal Kombat, you kinda have to kill everybody you don’t need so that you can have all the fatalities you want in the story. I’m just saying, there’s a reason why Kung Lao dies in MK2021, MK9, AND BOTR, and that’s because he’s not really important. I honestly feel like most of the problems people have with the movie are either nitpicks or they care WAY TOO MUCH about a problem that really isn’t that big of a deal.

Honestly, I don't really mind the fights being really short as the action is still phenomenal in animated form and I love that. Though, my major complaint, they did rush the final battle with Liu Kang and Shinnok. I think they could've fleshed out the final battle and the part of Liu getting Mega OP hacks in a 3rd movie aswell as showing what it was like with everything merged, arcs being finished, Scorpion and Kuai Liang managing to get along. They also could've done in a third movie than the one being is too much for Shinnok to handle and just goes to do it by himself.

Nice. I have always had that issue with that fight in bleach. Ulquiorra is just beating ichigo senseless. The beginning started as a fairly evenly fight but that was because Ulquiorra wasn't fully trying yet. Ichigo then gets a sudden power up then proceeds to completely body the guy who was just doing the same to him. It makes the fight boring so i've never watched it again. Ichigo Vs Grimmjow was a much better fight and probably the best fight in Bleach as a whole.

Appreciate it the honesty and authenticity of your review. I feel like the creators of this movie wanted to please everyone in one shot and that approach never works. But that's how the movie and entertainment industry works now. They lack patience and trust that if you create multiple films that is rich in story and character development it will work. It's a race to the bottom. This MK movie and the previous one could have easily been a series of multiple episodes that are an hour long. Kuai Liang is my favourite character too, so it was disappointing not to see his journey properly realised. Also the Ice Man travel ability he used has been something he's done in the past in the equally bad, but also still entertaining 90s TV series. One thing you reference with Liu Kang basically becoming Goku is funny to me, because while you're not wrong, in Dragon Ball we see Goku and friends training to become that powerful, and go beyond human limits. It's done believably within the context of its own logic, with even Goku's Super Saiyan transformation being foreshadowed by Vegeta many many episodes before we actually see it happen. Here Liu Kang just becomes The Special from no where. Also Kung Lao must have some lenient and well paying life insurance with how often he's been bodied in recent years.

-Outworld Characters kill Good Guy characters brutally, It's to put fear into the good side so they will loose. -Kuai LIang had a "Rage Boner" in the MK2 Storyline, the whole reason he went to outworld was to kill Scorpion. -Kuai Liang fled the first time because Smoke was captured and he was outnumbered. -Liu Kang was given the god powers they showed it in the movie and The One Being merged the Realms which goes against the rules of Mortal Kombat merging rules without victory in MK Tournament. So this one does follow the MK Storyline. It's So Bizarre!!!

I honestly wish Battle of The Realms was a show because as a movie it was rushed, also its weird they brought up The One Being when they shouldve saved him for later instead of adding him in the second tournament.

They introduced Human Smoke. Kuai Liang is upset about not being able to save him from being cyberized. After that scene, Cyber Smoke is a prop. A plot device used to move Scorpion and Sub Zero to the next scene. At no point does Kuai Liang attempt to reach out to what’s left of Smoke’s humanity or attempt to in any way save his dear friend. Smoke didn’t need to be in the movie at all.

I don't have any issue against "female characters being super strong" but again power levels in MK were always a mess. The two mascots of the franchise were treated pretty good imo, same with some secondary characters like Jade, Li Mei, Reiko and even Stryker. I felt the lack of fatalities too but I'm glad they didn't kill all of the characters because otherwise that could've been a real wasted potential. Those characters can now be more fleshed out in future movies. Plus Stryker wasn't done dirty, I felt like it's the opposite. They gave him a lot of dialogues, a cool design and a good fight and as a fan of him, I can appreciate that. Kung Lao's death may have been the dirtiest but again that's nothing new either.

@Gibram Rivera I'm pretty sure they are very much alive, i'm talking about Jade and Li Mei. And when it comes to Stryker, all i'm saying is that the guy had a very decent treatment considering he's a secondary character. It could have been much worse, just look at Kung Lao's death.

@Gibram Rivera I can agree with that last part. But even with Scorpion being the MK mascot, some other factions didn't look that bad imo. I think Shao Kahn and the Lin Kuei are good examples of that.

Damn, this, plus the atrocious 2021 movie, has me longing for some good Mortal Kombat representation😩 The source materials so good and easily expandable, why do these big budget productions keep messing up.
