@Franz H. W. Reifschneider The military history of France encompasses an immense panorama of conflicts and struggles extending for more than 2,000 years across areas including modern France, Europe, and a variety of regions throughout the world. According to historian Niall Ferguson: "of the 125 major European wars fought since 1495, the French have participated in 50 - more than Austria (47) and England (43). Out of 168 battles fought since 387 BC, they have won 109, lost 49 and drawn 10", making France the most successful military power in European history-in terms of number of fought and won.

Paying $1000 a pound for a mushroom that's been pried out of a dog's mouth, and pretending that eating it gives you a sublime pleasure. Walking around with your pants falling down, and pretending that it's your personal style. The rich, and the poor, are more alike than we think.

coty stricklen I am quite low income living on a small retirement pension. When I can I love to help support 89 orphans in Kenya Africa . The American dollar goes so far there still .Oh what I wouldn’t do to have a truffle hunting dog . The kids I Love so much could benefit from the money I could make from truffles . I could get them better education, better futures. I am amazed what the rich will invest in because of narcissism and deep shallow goals in life. Oh well this is the way elites get off on themselves .I don’t have a problem with wealth. I have a problem with what people do and don’t do with their wealth.Why do the wealthy need truffles. Why not invest in people instead then teach those people you invest in to invest in others. It’s called taking care of each other .

Okay Im confused. From what they described, is that the issue with these Chinese truffles is that they are picked when they are not ripe because they don't use dogs to pick them. So does that mean if they did use dogs to pick them ripe like the frenches do it would taste okay? If thats the case then why would they worry about the "spores" contaminating their land if they are the same?
@mudza92
@mudza92 8 жыл бұрын
Thats right, well they worry about that because if that happens price will go much much lower, and they dont want that, they want to sell 1 kg for thousand of euros, if price goes down they will not earn as nearly as much they do now
@Mlogan11
@Mlogan11 8 жыл бұрын
It sounded like the Chinese truffles started off at a lower grade, and then made worse by early harvesting. So spore contamination would impact harvesting for top quality truffles. Truffles are different by region- like Italian grapes are different and pricier than American.
@swillmerchant9886
@swillmerchant9886 2 жыл бұрын
i have read into these. there are reports claiming that the difference lies in immature and careless harvesting, lack of proper preservations---in China where truffles are produced, it's very remote with lack of roads transport, not to mention flights. With truffles having an incredibly short shelf span, by the time the Chinese ones get to Europe or US, they are no good. It's a lot of factors combined. Besides, Chinese made had always carried this connotations of cheapness, in the eyes of elitist consumers in Europe n US. If Chinese truffles take over the world, and are considered not to be substantially superior, the price of Italian and French truffles will plummet. This lady with fancy tan and animal fur coat suffer the most and the plump French chef in the video too. They are the ones with invested interest in this. SO they will never say Chinese truffles are any good until they own stakes in Chinese companies producing these truffles. Also look at what happened with caviar too. they have brought the price down substantially and in blind tests, people can't really tell the difference that easily

Well the guy that owns the Chinese truffles can company is not wrong. There is no legal definition for what a product should be, specifically. Just look at the iPhone. The parts are produced in China, some are even assembled there, but they still call it a U.S. product simply because it was "designed" in California.
@Asterisk_OS
@Asterisk_OS 8 жыл бұрын
+Chad Aoun Not designed, Packaged. Legally if the product is Packaged or finished in that country it is considered from that place. Example, China makes all the parts for a Iphone and send them to America, Then we put together the IPhones, It is now considered made in US. As long as it is Packaged/Put together or a single part on it is built here it is considered from here.

@Asterisk_OS 8 жыл бұрын
chuk90 If you build the watch without attaching a single outside piece, then you send it to another country and connect that last piece the item will then be considered made in that country. As long as the item is finished in another country it is legally considered from there. Not all items are as easy to do that with though, for example. A blow up ball is made in China, but it has the air and what not added in another country, I think at this point it would still be considered in China, While the Air is part of the item it is not the item itself.

@CortezEspartaco2
@CortezEspartaco2 6 жыл бұрын
California wines aren't bad, but the problem is they're saturating U.S. markets and making Spanish and Italian wines harder to come by. If you don't believe me, count how many Californian wines there are at your local grocery versus Spanish ones. There are some things you can't replace which is why certain products have protections so they can only originate from their area. Not just truffles, but wine, cheese, tea, fabrics, and even some animal breeds. You wouldn't like it if a Chinese vineyard starting selling bottles claiming to be California wine. Day to day it seems unimportant: wine is wine, tea is tea, etc. But sometimes you want something specific, something special. Kraft cheese singles are not Roquefort. EDIT: Just to add, the same thing is true of Wisconsin cheese knockoffs. Don't get me wrong, Wisconsin produces some great cheese. However, they constantly break origin rules and label cheeses as "parmesan" even though it's not from Parma, "brie" even though it's not from Seine, "stilton" even though it's not from Leicester, etc. I don't know how they can legally do this, but it's a disgrace. More general cheeses, like gouda, cheddar, and alpine are fine, but not the specific varieties of cheese that are supposed to be protected to a certain area. Who wants a parmigiano from Wisconsin anyway?

Was it though? It's more likely that you just ate cheap Chinese truffles and because you spent so much and thought you were getting something amazing, you elevated that dish in your mind to something amazing. Same thing happens with wine. Exact same wine with a higher priced label suddenly tastes better to everyone.

@@richarda3764 Very true. I have a friend who is a wine salesman for a place that sells a lot of very expensive wines. I gave up drinking many years ago, but one day i was joking with him how when I did drink, I used to drink the really cheap stuff, Carlo Rossi burgundy in the 3-liter jug. He admitted to me that he also liked Carlo Rossi, and that when they'd do blind wine tastings, they would often throw a glass of it in with the fancy wines, and that when these wine snobs couldn't see the label, they loved it. It's that way with any luxury item. I read an article recently about how for years, high end restaurants in NYC have been charging hundreds of dollars for garden variety beef that they are claiming is Kobe beef, but really isn't. Most people can;t tell the difference.

I appreciate that truffles have so much value to these people. I personally have found all culinary fungi to taste like rotten dirt, but French people love food and base their livelihoods (and culture) around these unique ingredients. I’m sure that there’s things that I value that they wouldn’t even care about. Humanity is about perspective.

@CSDonohue11 4 жыл бұрын
No she doesn’t want to have enough for everybody, because that would drive the values down. It’s better how it is being so scarce so that it makes the demand higher and thus the value higher so they can make it outrageous from some fungi.

European truffles traders and exporters import chinese truffles(for obvious reason), then blame chinese for bringing cheap truffles into their country. LOL Grape are cheaper in some European countries than 3rd world SE asia, DOESNT mean SE asia produce higher quality grape, but the supply and demand. I guarantee the traders in france are making huge money since they can now labeling much cheaper(due to high supply but low local demand/branding) China truffles as their own product.
