April 11th, 2015, was supposed to be Stephanie Scott's wedding day.
She could not be more excited, having planned every little detail. The final thing to sort out, was the handover for the teacher that would be taking over her classes while she was on her honeymoon.
But when she didn't come home from school that day, panic quickly set in...

When I was 15, I was walking home late from school with the headphones on. My route was up a small hill behind a grocery store..it's an empty area. A woman came up next to me in her car with a baby in the seat next to her. She asked me if I knew the man in the car behind me. Dirty blue van, guy with scraggly long blonde hair. I hadn't even heard him. She said he'd been following me since I left the school. He peeled out of there. She probably saved my life that day. 🙏

As an Aussie, this case and Jill Meaghers are two we’ll never get over. I don’t know why they popped into my mind. I was 15 years old & doing a forensic science class in school when they were murdered. I’ll never forget my teacher sitting u down in the aftermath, especially us girls. He told us to scratch, bite, tear their eyes out, do whatever it takes. Make as much noise as possible, and if all else fails- to spit. He said _it won’t save you, but that last act may offer enough evidence that may see your family one day get answers & justice_ and I’ve never forgotten that

He choked his teacher when he was 12, and was in a psychiatric institute for a bit of his life. Why. In the name of all that is holy, was he even allowed to work on anything, let alone a school, besides cleaning an isolated outhouse with no contact with the outside world?! I guess, with the logic behind this. If it wasn't Stephanie, it would've been someone else, probably a child. What a complete abomination of a living creature, let alone a human being.

“Predatory stalking behavior” needs to become a criminal offense that carries serious time in jail. So often police say they can’t do anything until an actual crime has been committed. Well, by then it’s too late. Why can’t we make their initial “ramp up” behaviors criminal and save lives?
@Tsumami__
@Tsumami__ Жыл бұрын
Probably because there are too many people who try to claim they’re victims of stalking but who have never been stalked before and have no idea what it actually entails. Then when a woman is actually being stalked by a man that intends to rape or kill her, it is largely ignored

It already is in Australia (Section 13, Crimes (Domestic & Personal Violence) Act 2007. The burden of proof for a conviction is on the police & without any proof or evidence to take to court, there isn't much they can do. However, in today's world of digital records, phone cameras, CCTV, etc, it 'should' be easier than in days gone by. Keeping meticulous records of stalking events is a surefire way into court but it is no less a terrifying & unsafe path to travel for the stalked person.

This is why female teachers and children should always be in pairs and get checked on by security at all times no matter where they work before and after work. It would bloody help. 99% of criminals ( My opinion and a pretty good one I reckon after seeing so many of these), are always operating in the shadows and never want to be recognised let alone overpowered nor attention drawn to them. It’s a great defence to not be alone especially if you’re a woman.

Totally agree. All the softies sympathetic for this evil degenerate & his mental defects or find the death penalty too much for your sensitive tummy please step aside. This monster deserved a swift execution, not to be incessantly interviewed, studied, & locked in a cage for life at the citizen's expense. Wth became of eye for an eye? He knew what he was doing was evil & wrong, & knew she was about to marry the love of her life. In fact I think that was a point of contention for this underage girls stalking loser unable to even strike up conversation with a girl. I'd have gone so far as to let her devastated fiance carry out the sentence, giving him a metal pipe to do so. Look at it as less time this poor, evil psycho gets to suffer. Unlike poor Stephanie. Can you imagine anyone being more angry, devastated, & heartbroken all at once than her fiance? I'm so happy for him that he eventually found love with another pretty girl. Though I'm sure there are moments he remembers Stephanie, at least he now has someone to temper that. The uncivilized, vile crimes monsters commit more & more, & yet so many societies today are leaning away from harsher, more just punishments as being "uncivilized". Criminal deterrence thru punishment has largely evaporated, & yet they wonder why these violent crimes continue going up? I just don't get it. And as for this degenerate's twin brother getting just 15 mths in jail for being a key accessory to the murder of this innocent woman & covering it up, clearly the AU criminal justice system is part of the problem! He should've gotten at least 15 yrs no parole for his involvement!
@katmanluke7187

@@linamarie84 lacking a history of these type crimes is pretty irrelevant after committing this one now isn't it? Classic example of the warning signs were there & went ignored. Simple as that. Poor Stephanie became a victim & lost her life thanks to that failure. Not to mention AU has also stripped away a person's right(particularly concerning denying vulnerable pop. incl/women) to carry a concealed firearm to protect their life. If she'd only had one odds are he would've been dead before realizing she did. And she'd be alive today, probably with her own family. So tragic. In countries where you still have this right, I sure wish more women would stop assuming the cops will come to their rescue in time & assume responsibility for their own safety in the dangerous world we live in today! Households in Australia hung our wedding dresses at our front door or a wedding photo on what would have been her wedding day. She will never be forgotten. Australia's heart broke with her family that day. Even though mine had been stored for 40 years...I sadly hung it at my door as well as a wedding photo and my bouquet on my letter box.
