When I was a young teen, if I wanted to stop over at a friends house, my mum would drop me off at the house, go in and speak to the parents ensuring they knew my curfew times etc. At the time I used to be so embarrassed and thought my mum was ridiculous. I can relate, my parents never allowed me to stay at a friend's house either until they saw and spoke to my friends parents. It used to foil my plans for wanting to stay out all night thinking I was a grown ass adult. I'm not blaming the parents but why is it normal today to take your child's word and not even check? Are teens more mature now? No, parents are more trusting. Thank you mum and dad for keeping me safe.

I was using Facebooks Messaging app once and while having what I thought was a private conversation with my friend and mentioning that I was probably going to order pizza for supper, a pop-up appeared and asked if I would like to place that order immediately and listed local pizza places. I immediately uninstalled Facebook and have never used it since. The thing that baffles me is: if Facebook recognized I was having a conversation about pizza and that triggered a lookup in my area for pizza places, how are kids talking about getting girls drink and raping them not triggering a call to the police so they can at least keep tabs on this person. Seems social media will poke their noses in other people’s business when it comes to making money, but when it comes to potentially saving a life they aren’t the least bit concerned? Why not? A message to young girls, never trust anyone on line. Never meet anyone you don't know. ALWAYS tell your parents what is going on, trust them and not the stranger on line. Your parents love you, the stranger online does not. This young girl was raped and murdered because she believed strangers, because she lied to her parents, because she trusted men that lied to her. A sad fact I am afraid. She did not deserve this, no young girl does.

Thisstory always stuck with me. The banal, grim murderers, the magnitude of what they did and the fact they managed to be so blase about it. It's seriously chilling. Also, I can really relate to Kayleigh and imagine how grown up she felt. The fact that turned into such a complete nightmare is so unspeakably tragic. Her poor parents. God knows how your survive such a terrible loss. The fact she actually escaped, but despite being seen by one of the n0nces neighbours half naked in the early hours, being wrestled to the ground, is never going to leave me. I know it's easy to say you'd do something when you weren't there, but i think part of it is we should be encouraging people to stick their nose in. If that man *was* a policeman, it doesn't matter! Men are men are men, and you should not doubt yourself so much. I had a similar experience and couldn't forgive the people who could have helped by just shouting, but didnt. There was no rational explanation for that. I hate when a newspaper prints a picture of a teenager but instead of using a current picture they put one that is from when they were like 10 or younger. It’s so misleading. Whether they do it for a victim or a teen that has committed the crime. We don’t need to think the victim is younger for us to be outraged by what happened to her. And in the case of the person committing the crime we need to know exactly what they look like to be aware and know they are someone to be careful of.
